And when they of Ashdod arose early the next day, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.

And when they arose early the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the fish-stump was left to him.

Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor any that come into Dagon's house tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.

And the hand of Jehovah was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he laid them waste, and smote them with hemorrhoids, — Ashdod and its borders.

And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of theGod of Israel shall not abide with us; for his hand is severe upon us, and upon Dagon ourgod.

And they sent and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of theGod of Israel? And they said, Let the ark of theGod of Israel be carried about to Gath. And they carried the ark of theGod of Israel about [thither].

And it came to pass that, after they had carried it about, the hand of Jehovah was against the city with very great panic; and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and hemorrhoids broke out upon them.

And they sent the ark ofGod to Ekron. And it came to pass, when the ark ofGod came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of theGod of Israel to us, to kill us and our people.

And they sent and gathered all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of theGod of Israel, and let it go again to its own place, that it kill us not, and our people. For there was deadly alarm throughout the city: the hand ofGod was very heavy there;

and the men that died not were smitten with the hemorrhoids; and the cry of the city went up to heaven.

Videntes autem viri Azotii huiuscemodi plagam, dixerunt: Non maneat arca Dei Israel apud nos: quoniam dura est manus eius super nos, et super Dagon deum nostrum.

Et mittentes congregaverunt omnes satrapas Philisthinorum ad se, et dixerunt: Quid faciemus de arca Dei Israel? Responderuntque Gethæi: Circumducatur arca Dei Israel. Et circumduxerunt arcam Dei Israel.

Illis autem circumducentibus eam, fiebat manus Domini per singulas civitates interfectionis magnæ nimis: et percutiebat viros uniuscuiusque urbis, a parvo usque ad maiorem, et computrescebant prominentes extales eorum. Inieruntque Gethæi consilium, et fecerunt sibi sedes pelliceas.

Miserunt ergo arcam Dei in Accaron. Cumque venisset arca Dei in Accaron, exclamaverunt Accaronitæ, dicentes: Adduxerunt ad nos arcam Dei Israel, ut interficiat nos et populum nostrum.

Miserunt itaque et congregaverunt omnes satrapas Philisthinorum: qui dixerunt: Dimittite arcam Dei Israel, et revertatur in locum suum, et non interficiat nos cum populo nostro.

Fiebat enim pavor mortis in singulis urbibus, et gravissima valde manus Dei. viri quoque, qui mortui non fuerant, percutiebantur in secretiori parte natium: et ascendebat ululatus uniuscuiusque civitatis in cælum.

And they send and gather all the princes of the Philistines unto them, and say, `What do we do to the ark of the God of Israel?' and they say, `To Gath let the ark of the God of Israel be brought round;' and they bring round the ark of the God of Israel;

and it cometh to pass after they have brought it round, that the hand of Jehovah is against the city--a very great destruction; and He smiteth the men of the city, from small even unto great; and break forth on them do emerods.

And they send the ark of God to Ekron, and it cometh to pass, at the coming in of the ark of God to Ekron, that the Ekronites cry out, saying, `They have brought round unto us the ark of the God of Israel, to put us to death--and our people.'

And they send and gather all the princes of the Philistines, and say, `Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and it turneth back to its place, and it doth not put us to death--and our people;' for there hath been a deadly destruction throughout all the city, very heavy hath the hand of God been there,

and the men who have not died have been smitten with emerods, and the cry of the city goeth up into the heavens.
