1
Simon Peter, bondman and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have received like precious faith with us through [the] righteousness of ourGod and Saviour Jesus Christ:
2
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in [the] knowledge ofGod and of Jesus our Lord.
3
As his divine power has given to us all things which relate to life andgodliness, through the knowledge of him that has called us by glory and virtue,
4
through which he has given to us the greatest and precious promises, that through these ye may become partakers of [the] divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5
But for this very reason also, using therewith all diligence, in your faith have also virtue, in virtue knowledge,
6
in knowledge temperance, in temperance endurance, in endurancegodliness,
7
ingodliness brotherly love, in brotherly love love:
8
for these things existing and abounding in you make [you] to be neither idle nor unfruitful as regards the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ;
9
for he with whom these things are not present is blind, short-sighted, and has forgotten the purging of his former sins.
10
Wherefore the rather, brethren, use diligence to make your calling and election sure, for doing these things ye will never fall;
11
for thus shall the entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ be richly furnished unto you.
12
Wherefore I will be careful to put you always in mind of these things, although knowing [them] and established in the present truth.
13
But I account it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting [you] in remembrance,
14
knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle is speedily [to take place], as also our Lord Jesus Christ has manifested to me;
15
but I will use diligence, that after my departure ye should have also, at any time, [in your power] to call to mind these things.
16
For we have not made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, following cleverly imagined fables, but having been eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17
For he received fromGod [the] Father honour and glory, such a voice being uttered to him by the excellent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom I have found my delight;
18
and this voice we heard uttered from heaven, being with him on the holy mountain.
19
And we have the prophetic word [made] surer, to which ye do well taking heed (as to a lamp shining in an obscure place) until [the] day dawn and [the] morning star arise in your hearts;
20
knowing this first, that [the scope of] no prophecy of scripture is had from its own particular interpretation,
21
for prophecy was not ever uttered by [the] will of man, but holy men ofGod spake under the power of [the] Holy Spirit.

1
5
Vos autem curam omnem subinferentes, ministrate in fide vestra virtutem, in virtute autem scientiam,
6
in scientia autem abstinentiam, in abstinentia autem patientiam, in patientia autem pietatem,
7
in pietate autem amorem fraternitatis, in amore autem fraternitatis charitatem.
8
17
Accipiens enim a Deo Patre honorem, et gloriam, voce delapsa ad eum huiuscemodi a magnifica gloria: Hic est Filius meus dilectus, in quo mihi complacui, ipsum audite.
18
Et hanc vocem nos audivimus de cælo allatam, cum essemus cum ipso in monte sancto.
19
Et habemus firmiorem propheticum sermonem: cui benefacitis attendentes quasi lucernæ lucenti in caliginoso loco donec dies elucescat, et lucifer oriatur in cordibus vestris:
20
hoc primum intelligentes quod omnis prophetia Scripturæ propria interpretatione non fit.
21
Non enim voluntate humana allata est aliquando prophetia: sed Spiritu sancto inspirati, locuti sunt sancti Dei homines.

Simeon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who did obtain a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ:
2
Grace to you, and peace be multiplied in the acknowledgement of God and of Jesus our Lord!
3
As all things to us His divine power (the things pertaining unto life and piety) hath given, through the acknowledgement of him who did call us through glory and worthiness,
4
through which to us the most great and precious promises have been given, that through these ye may become partakers of a divine nature, having escaped from the corruption in the world in desires.
5
And this same also--all diligence having brought in besides, superadd in your faith the worthiness, and in the worthiness the knowledge,
6
and in the knowledge the temperance, and in the temperance the endurance, and in the endurance the piety,
7
and in the piety the brotherly kindness, and in the brotherly kindness the love;
8
for these things being to you and abounding, do make <FI>you<Fi> neither inert nor unfruitful in regard to the acknowledging of our Lord Jesus Christ,
9
for he with whom these things are not present is blind, dim-sighted, having become forgetful of the cleansing of his old sins;
10
wherefore, the rather, brethren, be diligent to make stedfast your calling and choice, for these things doing, ye may never stumble,
11
for so, richly shall be superadded to you the entrance into the age-during reign of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
12
Wherefore, I will not be careless always to remind you concerning these things, though, having known them, and having been established in the present truth,
13
and I think right, so long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up in reminding <FI>you<Fi> ,
14
having known that soon is the laying aside of my tabernacle, even as also our Lord Jesus Christ did shew to me,
15
and I will be diligent that also at every time ye have, after my outgoing, power to make to yourselves the remembrance of these things.
16
For, skilfully devised fables not having followed out, we did make known to you the power and presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, but eye-witnesses having become of his majesty--
17
for having received from God the Father honour and glory, such a voice being borne to him by the excellent glory: `This is My Son--the beloved, in whom I was well pleased;'
18
and this voice we--we did hear, out of heaven borne, being with him in the holy mount.
19
And we have more firm the prophetic word, to which we do well giving heed, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, till day may dawn, and a morning star may arise--in your hearts;
20
this first knowing, that no prophecy of the Writing doth come of private exposition,
21
for not by will of man did ever prophecy come, but by the Holy Spirit borne on holy men of God spake.
