1
Christ, then, having suffered for us in [the] flesh, do ye also arm yourselves with the same mind; for he that has suffered in [the] flesh has done with sin,
2
no longer to live the rest of [his] time in [the] flesh to men's lusts, but toGod's will.
3
For the time past [is] sufficient [for us] to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, walking in lasciviousness, lusts, wine-drinking, revels, drinkings, and unhallowed idolatries.
4
Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with [them] to the same sink of corruption, speaking injuriously [of you];
5
who shall render account to him who is ready to judge [the] living and [the] dead.
6
For to this [end] were the glad tidings preached to [the] dead also, that they might be judged, as regards men, after [the] flesh, but live, as regardsGod, after [the] Spirit.
7
But the end of all things is drawn nigh: be sober therefore, and be watchful unto prayers;
8
but before all things having fervent love among yourselves, because love covers a multitude of sins;
9
hospitable one to another, without murmuring;
10
each according as he has received a gift, ministering it to one another, as good stewards of [the] various grace ofGod.
11
If any one speak — as oracles ofGod; if any one minister — as of strength whichGod supplies; thatGod in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom is the glory and the might for the ages of ages. Amen.
12
Beloved, take not [as] strange the fire [of persecution] which has taken place amongst you for [your] trial, as if a strange thing was happening to you;
13
but as ye have share in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, that in the revelation of his glory also ye may rejoice with exultation.
14
If ye are reproached in [the] name of Christ, blessed [are ye]; for the [Spirit] of glory and the Spirit ofGod rests upon you: [on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.]
15
Let none of you suffer indeed as murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or as overseer of other people's matters;
16
but if as a christian, let him not be ashamed, but glorifyGod in this name.
17
For the time of having the judgment begin from the house ofGod [is come]; but if first from us, what [shall be] the end of those who obey not the glad tidings ofGod?
18
And if the righteous is difficultly saved, where shall the impious and [the] sinner appear?
19
Wherefore also let them who suffer according to the will ofGod commit their souls in well-doing to a faithful Creator.

1
Christo igitur passo in carne, et vos eadem cogitatione armamini: quia qui passus est in carne, desiit a peccatis:
2
4
In quo admirantur non concurrentibus vobis in eamdem luxuriæ confusionem, blasphemantes.
5
Qui reddent rationem ei, qui paratus est iudicare vivos et mortuos.
6
Propter hoc enim et mortuis evangelizatum est: ut iudicentur quidem secundum homines in carne, vivant autem secundum Deum in Spiritu.
7
Omnium autem finis appropinquavit. Estote itaque prudentes, et vigilate in orationibus.
8
Ante omnia autem, mutuam in vobismetipsis charitatem continuam habentes: quia charitas operit multitudinem peccatorum.
9
Hospitales invicem sine murmuratione:
10
Unusquisque, sicut accepit gratiam, in alterutrum illam administrantes, sicut boni dispensatores multiformis gratiæ Dei.
11
19
Itaque et hi, qui patiuntur secundum voluntatem Dei, fideli Creatori commendent animas suas in benefactis.

for sufficient to us <FI>is<Fi> the past time of life the will of the nations to have wrought, having walked in lasciviousnesses, desires, excesses of wines, revellings, drinking-bouts, and unlawful idolatries,

in which they think it strange--your not running with them to the same excess of dissoluteness, speaking evil,
5
who shall give an account to Him who is ready to judge living and dead,

for for this also to dead men was good news proclaimed, that they may be judged, indeed, according to men in the flesh, and may live according to God in the spirit.

And of all things the end hath come nigh; be sober-minded, then, and watch unto the prayers,

Beloved, think it not strange at the fiery suffering among you that is coming to try you, as if a strange thing were happening to you,
13
but, according as ye have fellowship with the sufferings of the Christ, rejoice ye, that also in the revelation of his glory ye may rejoice--exulting;
14
if ye be reproached in the name of Christ--happy <FI>are ye<Fi> , because the Spirit of glory and of God upon you doth rest; in regard, indeed, to them, he is evil-spoken of, and in regard to you, he is glorified;

for let none of you suffer as a murderer, or thief, or evil-doer, or as an inspector into other men's matters;
16
and if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; and let him glorify God in this respect;
17
because it is the time of the beginning of the judgment from the house of God, and if first from us, what the end of those disobedient to the good news of God?
18
And if the righteous man is scarcely saved, the ungodly and sinner--where shall he appear?
19
so that also those suffering according to the will of god, as to a stedfast Creator, let them commit their own souls in good doing.
