Colossians Chapter 3

asv (asv) - eBible.org engASV USFM

1 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a feast day or a new moon or a sabbath day:
2 which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ’s.
3 Let no man rob you of your prize by a voluntary humility and worshipping of the angels, dwelling in the things which he hath seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
4 and not holding fast the Head, from whom all the body, being supplied and knit together through the joints and bands, increaseth with the increase of God.
5 If ye died with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, do ye subject yourselves to ordinances,
6 Handle not, nor taste, nor touch
7 (all which things are to perish with the using), after the precepts and doctrines of men?
8 Which things have indeed a show of wisdom in will-worship, and humility, and severity to the body;
9 but are not of any value against the indulgence of the flesh.
10 If then ye were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God.
11 Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are upon the earth.
12 For ye died, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
13 When Christ,
14 who is our life, shall be manifested, then shall ye also with him be manifested in glory.
15 Put to death therefore your members which are upon the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry;
16 for which things’ sake cometh the wrath of God upon the sons of disobedience:
17 wherein ye also once walked, when ye lived in these things;
18 but now do ye also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, railing, shameful speaking out of your mouth:
19 lie not one to another; seeing that ye have put off the old man with his doings,
20 and have put on the new man, that is being renewed unto knowledge after the image of him that created him:
21 where there cannot be Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, bondman, freeman; but Christ is all, and in all.
22 Put on therefore, as God’s elect, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, longsuffering;
23 forbearing one another, and forgiving each other, if any man have a complaint against any; even as the Lord forgave you, so also do ye:
24 and above all these things
25 put on love, which is the bond of perfectness.

1 If therefore ye have been raised with the Christ, seek the things [which are] above, where the Christ is, sitting at [the] right hand ofGod:
2 have your mind on the things [that are] above, not on the things [that are] on the earth;
3 for ye have died, and your life is hid with the Christ inGod.
4 When the Christ is manifested who [is] our life, then shall ye also be manifested with him in glory.
5 Put to death therefore your members which [are] upon the earth, fornication, uncleanness, vile passions, evil lust, and unbridled desire, which is idolatry.
6 On account of which things the wrath ofGod comes upon the sons of disobedience.
7 In which ye also once walked when ye lived in these things.
8 But now, put off, ye also, all [these] things, wrath, anger, malice, blasphemy, vile language out of your mouth.
9 Do not lie to one another, having put off the old man with his deeds,
10 and having put on the new, renewed into full knowledge according to [the] image of him that has created him;
11 wherein there is not Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, bondman, freeman; but Christ [is] everything, and in all.
12 Put on therefore, as [the] elect ofGod, holy and beloved, bowels of compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, longsuffering;
13 forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any should have a complaint against any; even as the Christ has forgiven you, so also [do] ye.
14 And to all these [add] love, which is the bond of perfectness.
15 And let the peace of Christ preside in your hearts, to which also ye have been called in one body, and be thankful.
16 Let the word of the Christ dwell in you richly, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another, in psalms, hymns, spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts toGod.
17 And everything, whatever ye may do in word or in deed, [do] all things in [the] name of [the] Lord Jesus, giving thanks toGod the Father by him.
18 Wives, be subject to [your] husbands, as is fitting in [the] Lord.
19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
20 Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing in [the] Lord.
21 Fathers, do not vex your children, to the end that they be not disheartened.
22 Bondmen, obey in all things your masters according to flesh; not with eye-services, as men-pleasers, but in simplicity of heart, fearing the Lord.
23 Whatsoever ye do, labour at it heartily, as [doing it] to the Lord, and not to men;
24 knowing that of [the] Lord ye shall receive the recompense of the inheritance; ye serve the Lord Christ.
25 For he that does a wrong shall receive the wrong he has done, and there is no respect of persons.

6 propter quæ venit ira Dei super filios incredulitatis:
18 Mulieres subditæ estote viris, sicut oportet, in Domino.
24 scientes quod a Domino accipietis retributionem hereditatis. Domino Christo servite.
25 qui enim iniuriam facit, recipiet id, quod inique gessit: et non est personarum acceptio apud Deum.

Explain Like I'm 5

A long, long time ago, there was nothing at all - no earth, no sky, no animals, no people. It was all dark and empty. But God was there! God is so powerful that He can make anything just by speaking. So God said "Let there be light!" and BOOM! There was light everywhere! God saw that the light was beautiful and good. He called the light "day" and the darkness "night." This was the very first day when God started making our wonderful world!

Explain Like I'm 10

Before anything existed - no planets, stars, or life - God decided to create the universe. The earth started out as a dark, empty place covered with water. But God's Spirit was there, ready to bring order and beauty to everything. When God spoke and said "Let there be light," light immediately appeared because God's words have incredible power. God looked at the light and was pleased with what He had made. He organized time by separating light (day) from darkness (night), creating the first 24-hour period. This shows us that God is organized and purposeful in everything He does.

Explain Like I'm 15

Genesis 1:1-5 establishes fundamental theological truths about God and creation. The Hebrew word "bara" (created) indicates creation from nothing (ex nihilo), demonstrating God's absolute sovereignty and power. The phrase "without form and void" (tohu wa-bohu) describes a state of chaos that God transforms into order. The Spirit of God "hovering" or "brooding" over the waters suggests active, caring involvement in creation. The creation of light before the sun (created on day 4) indicates that God Himself is the ultimate source of light and energy. The establishment of day and night creates the framework of time, showing that God operates within orderly patterns while transcending them. This passage refutes both atheistic materialism and pantheism, establishing that God is both transcendent (separate from creation) and immanent (actively involved in it).
