Acts Chapter 13

3 Now while Peter was much perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men that were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood before the gate,

4 and called and asked whether Simon, who was surnamed Peter, were lodging there.

5 And while Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.

6 But arise, and get thee down, and go with them, nothing doubting: for I have sent them.

7 And Peter went down to the men, and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?

8 And they said, Cornelius a centurion, a righteous man and one that feareth God, and well reported of by all the nation of the Jews, was warned

9 of God by a holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words from thee.

10 So he called them in and lodged them.

11 And on the morrow he arose and went forth with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa accompanied him.

12 And on the morrow they entered into Cæsarea. And Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his kinsmen and his near friends.

13 And when it came to pass that Peter entered, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.

14 But Peter raised him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

15 And as he talked with him, he went in, and findeth many come together:

16 and he said unto them, Ye yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to join himself or come unto one of another nation; and

17 yet unto me hath God showed that I should not call any man common or unclean:

18 wherefore also I came without gainsaying, when I was sent for. I ask therefore with what intent ye sent for me.

19 And Cornelius said, Four days ago, until this hour, I was keeping the ninth hour of prayer in my house; and behold, a man stood before me in bright apparel,

20 and saith, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

21 Send therefore to Joppa, and call unto thee Simon, who is surnamed Peter; he lodgeth in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea side.

22 Forthwith therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God, to hear all things that have been commanded thee of the Lord.

23 And Peter opened his mouth, and said,

24 Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

25 but in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is acceptable to him.

26 The word which he sent unto the children of Israel, preaching good tidings of peace by Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all)—

27 that saying ye yourselves know, which was published throughout all Judæa, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

28 even Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

29 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom also they slew, hanging him on a tree.

30 Him God raised up the third day, and gave him to be made manifest,

31 not to all the people, but unto witnesses that were chosen before of God,

32 even to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

33 And he charged us to preach unto the people, and to testify that this is he who is ordained of God

34 to be the Judge of the living and the dead.

35 To him bear all the prophets witness, that through his name every one that believeth on him shall receive remission of sins.

36 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all them that heard the word.

37 And they of the circumcision that believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit.

38 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

39 Can any man forbid the water, that these should not be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit as well as we?

40 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

41 Now the apostles and the brethren that were in Judæa heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.

42 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,

43 saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

44 But Peter began, and expounded

45 the matter unto them in order, saying,

46 I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, a certain vessel descending, as it were a great sheet let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even unto me:

47 upon which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw the fourfooted beasts of the earth and wild beasts and creeping things and birds of the heaven.

48 And I heard also a voice saying unto me, Rise, Peter; kill and eat.

49 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath ever entered into my mouth.

50 But a voice answered the second time out of heaven, What God hath cleansed, make not thou common.

51 And this was done thrice: and all were drawn up again into heaven.

52 And behold, forthwith three men stood before the house in which we were, having been sent from Cæsarea unto me.

7 who was with the proconsul Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. He, having called Barnabas and Saul to [him], desired to hear the word ofGod.

8 But Elymas the magician (for so his name is by interpretation) opposed them, seeking to turn away the proconsul from the faith.

9 But Saul, who also [is] Paul, filled with [the] Holy Spirit, fixing his eyes upon him,

10 said, O full of all deceit and all craft: son of [the] devil, enemy of all righteousness; wilt thou not cease perverting the right paths of [the] Lord?

11 And now behold, [the] Lord's hand [is] upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell upon him a mist and darkness; and going about he sought persons who should lead him by the hand.

12 Then the proconsul, seeing what had happened, believed, being amazed at the teaching of the Lord.

13 And having sailed from Paphos, Paul and his company came to Perga of Pamphylia; and John separated from them and returned to Jerusalem.

14 But they, passing through from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia; and entering into the synagogue on the sabbath day they sat down.

15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, Brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation to the people, speak.

16 And Paul, rising up and making a sign with the hand, said, Israelites, and ye that fearGod, hearken.

17 TheGod of this people Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people in their sojourn in [the] land of Egypt, and with a high arm brought them out of it,

18 and for a time of about forty years he nursed them in the desert.

19 And having destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance.

20 And after these things he gave [them] judges till Samuel the prophet, [to the end of] about four hundred and fifty years.

21 And then they asked for a king, andGod gave to them Saul, son of Kis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, during forty years.

22 And having removed him he raised up to them David for king, of whom also bearing witness he said, I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who shall do all my will.

23 Of this man's seed according to promise hasGod brought to Israel a Saviour, Jesus;

24 John having proclaimed before the face of his entry [among the people] [the] baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

25 And as John was fulfilling his course he said, Whom do ye suppose that I am? I am not [he]. But behold, there comes one after me, the sandal of whose feet I am not worthy to loose.

26 Brethren, sons of Abraham's race, and those who among you fearGod, to you has the word of this salvation been sent:

27 for those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, not having known him, have fulfilled also the voices of the prophets which are read on every sabbath, [by] judging [him].

28 And having found no cause of death [in him], they begged of Pilate that he might be slain.

29 And when they had fulfilled all things written concerning him, they took him down from the cross and put him in a sepulchre;

30 butGod raised him from among [the] dead,

31 who appeared for many days to those who had come up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses to the people.

32 And we declare unto you the glad tidings of the promise made to the fathers,

33 thatGod has fulfilled this to us their children, having raised up Jesus; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son: this day have I begotten thee.

34 But that he raised him from among [the] dead, no more to return to corruption, he spoke thus: I will give to you the faithful mercies of David.

35 Wherefore also he says in another, Thou wilt not suffer thy gracious one to see corruption.

36 For David indeed, having in his own generation ministered to the will ofGod, fell asleep, and was added to his fathers and saw corruption.

37 But he whomGod raised up did not see corruption.

38 Be it known unto you, therefore, brethren, that through this man remission of sins is preached to you,

39 and from all things from which ye could not be justified in the law of Moses, in him every one that believes is justified.

40 See therefore that that which is spoken in the prophets do not come upon [you],

41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder and perish; for I work a work in your days, a work which ye will in no wise believe if one declare it to you.

42 And as they went out they begged that these words might be spoken to them the ensuing sabbath.

43 And the congregation of the synagogue having broken up, many of the Jews and of the worshipping proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace ofGod.

44 And on the coming sabbath almost all the city was gathered together to hear the word ofGod.

45 But the Jews, seeing the crowds, were filled with envy, and contradicted the things said by Paul, [contradicting and] speaking injuriously.

46 And Paul and Barnabas spoke boldly and said, It was necessary that the word ofGod should be first spoken to you; but, since ye thrust it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, lo, we turn to the nations;

47 for thus has the Lord enjoined us: I have set thee for a light of the nations, that thou shouldest be for salvation to the end of the earth.

48 And [those of] the nations, hearing it, rejoiced, and glorified the word of the Lord, and believed, as many as were ordained to eternal life.

49 And the word of the Lord was carried through the whole country.

50 But the Jews excited the women of the upper classes who were worshippers, and the first people of the city, and raised a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and cast them out of their coasts.

51 But they, having shaken off the dust of their feet against them, came to Iconium.

52 And the disciples were filled with joy and [the] Holy Spirit.

11 Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for a season!” Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him. He went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

12 Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

26 “Brothers, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to you.

27 For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they didn’t know him, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.

28 Though they found no cause for death, they still asked Pilate to have him killed.

29 When they had fulfilled all things that were written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.

30 But God raised him from the dead,

31 and he was seen for many days by those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses to the people.

32 We bring you good news of the promise made to the fathers,

33 that God has fulfilled this to us, their children, in that he raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second psalm, ‘You are my Son. Today I have become your father.’

34 “Concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he has spoken thus: ‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.’

35 Therefore he says also in another psalm, ‘You will not allow your Holy One to see decay.’

36 For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, was laid with his fathers, and saw decay.

37 But he whom God raised up saw no decay.

38 Be it known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man is proclaimed to you remission of sins;

39 and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.

40 Beware therefore, lest that come on you which is spoken in the prophets:

41 ‘Behold, you scoffers! Wonder and perish, for I work a work in your days, a work which you will in no way believe, if one declares it to you.’”

42 So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.

43 Now when the synagogue broke up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.

44 The next Sabbath, almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God.

45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed.

46 Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, and said, “It was necessary that God’s word should be spoken to you first. Since indeed you thrust it from yourselves, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

47 For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, ‘I have set you as a light for the Gentiles, that you should bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.’”

48 As the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of God. As many as were appointed to eternal life believed.

49 The Lord’s word was spread abroad throughout all the region.

50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and threw them out of their borders.

51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came to Iconium.

52 The disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

11 και νυν ιδου χειρ κυριου επι σε και εση τυφλος μη βλεπων τον ηλιον αχρι καιρου παραχρημα δε επεσεν επ αυτον αχλυς και σκοτος και περιαγων εζητει χειραγωγους
