Acts Chapter 10

3 But when they believed Philip preaching good tidings concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

4 And Simon also himself believed: and being baptized, he continued with Philip; and beholding signs and great miracles wrought, he was amazed.

5 Now when the apostles that were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

6 who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit:

7 for as yet it was fallen upon none of them: only they had been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.

8 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

9 Now when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,

10 saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay my hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.

11 But Peter said unto him, Thy silver perish with thee, because thou hast thought to obtain the gift of God with money.

12 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right before God.

13 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray the Lord, if perhaps the thought of thy heart shall be forgiven thee.

14 For I see that thou art in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity.

15 And Simon answered and said, Pray ye for me to the Lord, that none of the things which ye have spoken come upon me.

16 They therefore, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.

17 But an angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza: the same is desert.

18 And he arose and went: and behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship;

19 and he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.

20 And the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

21 And Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

22 And he said, How can I, except some one shall guide me? And he besought Philip to come up and sit with him.

23 Now the passage of the scripture which he was reading was this,

24 He was led as a sheep to the slaughter;

25 And as a lamb before his shearer is dumb,

26 So he openeth not his mouth:

27 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away:

28 His generation who shall declare?

29 For his life is taken from the earth.

30 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other?

31 And Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this scripture, preached unto him Jesus.

32 And as they went on the way, they came unto a certain water; and the eunuch saith, Behold,

33 here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

34 Some ancient authorities insert, wholly or in part, v. 37.

35 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thy heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

36 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

37 And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more, for he went on his way rejoicing.

38 But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached the gospel to all the cities, till he came to Cæsarea.

39 But Saul, yet breathing threatening and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,

40 and asked of him letters to Damascus unto the synagogues, that if he found any that were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

41 And as he journeyed, it came to pass that he drew nigh unto Damascus: and suddenly there shone round about him a light out of heaven:

42 and he fell upon the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

43 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And he

44 said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest:

45 but rise, and enter into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

46 And the men that journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing the voice, but beholding no man.

47 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw nothing; and they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.

48 And he was three days without sight, and did neither eat nor drink.

10 And he became hungry and desired to eat. But as they were making ready an ecstasy came upon him:

11 and he beholds the heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending, as a great sheet, [bound] by [the] four corners [and] let down to the earth;

12 in which were all the quadrupeds and creeping things of the earth, and the fowls of the heaven.

13 And there was a voice to him, Rise, Peter, slay and eat.

14 And Peter said, In no wise, Lord; for I have never eaten anything common or unclean.

15 And [there was] a voice again the second time to him, WhatGod has cleansed, do not thou make common.

16 And this took place thrice, and the vessel was straightway taken up into heaven.

17 And as Peter doubted in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold also the men who were sent by Cornelius, having sought out the house of Simon, stood at the gate,

18 and having called [some one], they inquired if Simon who was surnamed Peter was lodged there.

19 But as Peter continued pondering over the vision, the Spirit said to him, Behold, three men seek thee;

20 but rise up, go down, and go with them, nothing doubting, because I have sent them.

21 And Peter going down to the men said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause for which ye come?

22 And they said, Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man, and fearingGod, and borne witness to by the whole nation of the Jews, has been divinely instructed by a holy angel to send for thee to his house, and hear words from thee.

23 Having therefore invited them in, he lodged them. And on the morrow, rising up he went away with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa went with him.

24 And on the morrow they came to Caesarea. But Cornelius was looking for them, having called together his kinsmen and [his] intimate friends.

25 And when Peter was now coming in, Cornelius met him, and falling down did [him] homage.

26 But Peter made him rise, saying, Rise up: I myself also am a man.

27 And he went in, talking with him, and found many gathered together.

28 And he said to them, Ye know how it is unlawful for a Jew to be joined or come to one of a strange race, and to meGod has shewn to call no man common or unclean.

29 Wherefore also, having been sent for, I came without saying anything against it. I inquire therefore for what reason ye have sent for me.

30 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I had been [fasting] unto this hour, and the ninth [I was] praying in my house, and lo, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

31 and said, Cornelius, thy prayer has been heard, and thy alms have come in remembrance beforeGod.

32 Send therefore to Joppa and fetch Simon, who is surnamed Peter; he lodges in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea [who when he is come will speak to thee].

33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee, and thou hast well done in coming. Now therefore we are all present beforeGod to hear all things that are commanded thee ofGod.

34 And Peter opening his mouth said, Of a truth I perceive thatGod is no respecter of persons,

35 but in every nation he that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.

36 The word which he sent to the sons of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ, (he is Lord of all things,)

37 ye know; the testimony which has spread through the whole of Judaea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John preached —

38 Jesus who [was] of Nazareth: howGod anointed him with [the] Holy Spirit and with power; who went through [all quarters] doing good, and healing all that were under the power of the devil, becauseGod was with him.

39 We also [are] witnesses of all things which he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they also slew, having hanged him on a cross.

40 This [man]God raised up the third day and gave him to be openly seen,

41 not of all the people, but of witnesses who were chosen before ofGod, us who have eaten and drunk with him after he arose from among [the] dead.

42 And he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that he it is who was determinately appointed ofGod [to be] judge of living and dead.

43 To him all the prophets bear witness that every one that believes on him will receive through his name remission of sins.

44 While Peter was yet speaking these words the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were hearing the word.

45 And the faithful of the circumcision were astonished, as many as came with Peter, that upon the nations also the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out:

46 for they heard them speaking with tongues and magnifyingGod. Then Peter answered,

47 Can any one forbid water that these should not be baptised, who have received the Holy Spirit as we also [did]?

48 And he commanded them to be baptised in the name of the Lord. Then they begged him to stay some days.

10 He became hungry and desired to eat, but while they were preparing, he fell into a trance.

11 He saw heaven opened and a certain container descending to him, like a great sheet let down by four corners on the earth,

12 in which were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, reptiles, and birds of the sky.

13 A voice came to him, “Rise, Peter, kill and eat!”

14 But Peter said, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”

15 A voice came to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed, you must not call unclean.”

16 This was done three times, and immediately the thing was received up into heaven.

17 Now while Peter was very perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood before the gate,

18 and called and asked whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was lodging there.

19 While Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you.

20 But arise, get down, and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”

21 Peter went down to the men, and said, “Behold, I am he whom you seek. Why have you come?”

22 They said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man and one who fears God, and well spoken of by all the nation of the Jews, was directed by a holy angel to invite you to his house, and to listen to what you say.”

23 So he called them in and provided a place to stay. On the next day Peter arose and went out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.

24 On the next day they entered into Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and his near friends.

25 When Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell down at his feet, and worshiped him.

26 But Peter raised him up, saying, “Stand up! I myself am also a man.”

27 As he talked with him, he went in and found many gathered together.

28 He said to them, “You yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man who is a Jew to join himself or come to one of another nation, but God has shown me that I shouldn’t call any man unholy or unclean.

29 Therefore I also came without complaint when I was sent for. I ask therefore, why did you send for me?”

30 Cornelius said, “Four days ago, I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour, I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing

31 and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your gifts to the needy are remembered in the sight of God.

32 Send therefore to Joppa and summon Simon, who is also called Peter. He is staying in the house of a tanner named Simon, by the seaside. When he comes, he will speak to you.’

33 Therefore I sent to you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”

34 Peter opened his mouth and said, “Truly I perceive that God doesn’t show favoritism;

35 but in every nation he who fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.

36 The word which he sent to the children of Israel, preaching good news of peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all—

37 you yourselves know what happened, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

39 We are witnesses of everything he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they also killed, hanging him on a tree.

40 God raised him up the third day and gave him to be revealed,

41 not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen before by God, to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that this is he who is appointed by God as the Judge of the living and the dead.

43 All the prophets testify about him, that through his name everyone who believes in him will receive remission of sins.”

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word.

45 They of the circumcision who believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on the Gentiles.

46 For they heard them speaking in other languages and magnifying God. Then Peter answered,

47 “Can anyone forbid these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just like us.”

48 He commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay some days.

1 And there was a certain man in Caesarea, by name Cornelius, a centurion from a band called Italian,

2 pious, and fearing God with all his house, doing also many kind acts to the people, and beseeching God always,

3 he saw in a vision manifestly, as it were the ninth hour of the day, a messenger of God coming in unto him, and saying to him, `Cornelius;'

4 and he having looked earnestly on him, and becoming afraid, said, `What is it, Lord?' And he said to him, `Thy prayers and thy kind acts came up for a memorial before God,

5 and now send men to Joppa, and send for a certain one Simon, who is surnamed Peter,

6 this one doth lodge with a certain Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea; this one shall speak to thee what it behoveth thee to do.'

7 And when the messenger who is speaking to Cornelius went away, having called two of his domestics, and a pious soldier of those waiting on him continually,

8 and having declared to them all things, he sent them to Joppa.

9 And on the morrow, as these are proceeding on the way, and are drawing nigh to the city, Peter went up upon the house-top to pray, about the sixth hour,

10 and he became very hungry, and wished to eat; and they making ready, there fell upon him a trance,

11 and he doth behold the heaven opened, and descending unto him a certain vessel, as a great sheet, bound at the four corners, and let down upon the earth,

12 in which were all the four-footed beasts of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the fowls of the heaven,

13 and there came a voice unto him: `Having risen, Peter, slay and eat.'

14 And Peter said, `Not so, Lord; because at no time did I eat anything common or unclean;'

16 and this was done thrice, and again was the vessel received up to the heaven.

18 and having called, they were asking if Simon, who is surnamed Peter, doth lodge here?

19 And Peter thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, `Lo, three men do seek thee;

20 but having risen, go down and go on with them, nothing doubting, because I have sent them;'

21 and Peter having come down unto the men who have been sent from Cornelius unto him, said, `Lo, I am he whom ye seek, what <FI>is<Fi> the cause for which ye are present?'

22 And they said, `Cornelius, a centurion, a man righteous and fearing God, well testified to, also, by all the nation of the Jews, was divinely warned by a holy messenger to send for thee, to his house, and to hear sayings from thee.'

23 Having called them in, therefore, he lodged them, and on the morrow Peter went forth with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa went with him,

24 and on the morrow they did enter into Caesarea; and Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his kindred and near friends,

26 and Peter raised him, saying, `Stand up; I also myself am a man;'

29 therefore also without gainsaying I came, having been sent for; I ask, therefore, for what matter ye did send for me?'

30 And Cornelius said, `Four days ago till this hour, I was fasting, and <FI>at<Fi> the ninth hour praying in my house, and, lo, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

31 and he said, Cornelius, thy prayer was heard, and thy kind acts were remembered before God;

32 send, therefore, to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is surnamed Peter; this one doth lodge in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea, who having come, shall speak to thee;

33 at once, therefore, I sent to thee; thou also didst do well, having come; now, therefore, are we all before God present to hear all things that have been commanded thee by God.'

34 And Peter having opened his mouth, said, `Of a truth, I perceive that God is no respecter of persons,

35 but in every nation he who is fearing Him, and is working righteousness, is acceptable to Him;

36 the word that he sent to the sons of Israel, proclaiming good news--peace through Jesus Christ (this one is Lord of all,)

37 ye--ye have known; --the word that came throughout all Judea, having begun from Galilee, after the baptism that John preached;

38 Jesus who <FI>is<Fi> from Nazareth--how God did anoint him with the Holy Spirit and power; who went through, doing good, and healing all those oppressed by the devil, because God was with him;

39 and we--we are witnesses of all things that he did, both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem, --whom they did slay, having hanged upon a tree.

40 `This one God did raise up the third day, and gave him to become manifest,

41 not to all the people, but to witnesses, to those having been chosen before by God--to us who did eat with <FI>him<Fi> , and did drink with him, after his rising out of the dead;

42 and he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify fully that it is he who hath been ordained by God judge of living and dead--

43 to this one do all the prophets testify, that through his name every one that is believing in him doth receive remission of sins.'

44 While Peter is yet speaking these sayings, the Holy spirit fell upon all those hearing the word,

45 and those of the circumcision believing were astonished--as many as came with Peter--because also upon the nations the gift of the Holy Spirit hath been poured out,

46 for they were hearing them speaking with tongues and magnifying God.

47 Then answered Peter, `The water is any one able to forbid, that these may not be baptized, who the Holy Spirit did receive--even as also we?'

48 he commanded them also to be baptized in the name of the Lord; then they besought him to remain certain days.
