John Chapter 8

4 If a man receiveth circumcision on the sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken; are ye wroth with me, because I made a man every whit whole on the sabbath?

5 Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

6 Some therefore of them of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill?

7 And lo, he speaketh openly, and they say nothing unto him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is the Christ?

8 Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when the Christ cometh, no one knoweth whence he is.

9 Jesus therefore cried in the temple, teaching and saying, Ye both know me, and know whence I am; and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.

10 I know him; because I am from him, and he sent me.

11 They sought therefore to take him: and no man laid his hand on him, because his hour was not yet come.

12 But of the multitude many believed on him; and they said, When the Christ shall come, will he do more signs than those which this man hath done?

13 The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him; and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to take him.

14 Jesus therefore said, Yet a little while am I with you, and I go unto him that sent me.

15 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, ye cannot come.

16 The Jews therefore said among themselves, Whither will this man go that we shall not find him? will he go unto the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?

17 What is this word that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me; and where I am, ye cannot come?

18 Now on the last day, the great

19 day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink.

20 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, from within him shall flow rivers of living water.

21 But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believed on him were to receive: for the Spirit was not yet

22 given; because Jesus was not yet glorified.

23 Some of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, This is of a truth the prophet.

24 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, What, doth the Christ come out of Galilee?

25 Hath not the scripture said that the Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?

26 So there arose a division in the multitude because of him.

27 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.

28 The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why did ye not bring him?

29 The officers answered, Never man so spake.

30 The Pharisees therefore answered them, Are ye also led astray?

31 Hath any of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees?

32 But this multitude that knoweth not the law are accursed.

33 Nicodemus saith unto them (he that came to him before, being one of them),

34 Doth our law judge a man, except it first hear from himself and know what he doeth?

35 They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and see that out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.

36 [And they went every man unto his own house:

37 but Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

38 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

39 And the scribes and the Pharisees bring a woman taken in adultery; and having set her in the midst,

40 they say unto him, Teacher, this woman hath been taken in adultery, in the very act.

41 Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such: what then sayest thou of her?

42 And this they said, trying him, that they might have

43 whereof to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.

44 But when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

45 And again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.

46 And they, when they heard it, went out one by one, beginning from the eldest,

47 even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the midst.

48 And Jesus lifted up himself, and said unto her, Woman, where are they? did no man condemn thee?

49 And she said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said, Neither do I condemn thee: go thy way; from henceforth sin no more.]

50 Again therefore Jesus spake unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.

51 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest witness of thyself; thy witness is not true.

52 Jesus answered and said unto them, Even if I bear witness of myself, my witness is true; for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye know not whence I come, or whither I go.

53 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

54 Yea and if I judge, my judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

55 Yea and in your law it is written, that the witness of two men is true.

56 I am he that beareth witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

57 They said therefore unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye know neither me, nor my Father: if ye knew me, ye would know my Father also.

58 These words spake he in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man took him; because his hour was not yet come.

59 He said therefore again unto them, I go away, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sin: whither I go, ye cannot come.

21 He said therefore again to them, I go away, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sin; where I go ye cannot come.

22 The Jews therefore said, Will he kill himself, that he says, Where I go ye cannot come?

23 And he said to them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above. Ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

24 I said therefore to you, that ye shall die in your sins; for unless ye shall believe that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins.

25 They said therefore to him, Who art thou? [And] Jesus said to them, Altogether that which I also say to you.

26 I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but he that has sent me is true, and I, what I have heard from him, these things I say to the world.

27 They knew not that he spoke to them of the Father.

28 Jesus therefore said to them, When ye shall have lifted up the Son of man, then ye shall know that I am [he], and [that] I do nothing of myself, but as the Father has taught me I speak these things.

29 And he that has sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, because I do always the things that are pleasing to him.

30 As he spoke these things many believed on him.

31 Jesus therefore said to the Jews who believed him, If ye abide in my word, ye are truly my disciples;

32 and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.

33 They answered him, We are Abraham's seed, and have never been under bondage to any one; how sayest thou, Ye shall become free?

34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Every one that practises sin is the bondman of sin.

35 Now the bondman abides not in the house for ever: the son abides for ever.

36 If therefore the Son shall set you free, ye shall be really free.

37 I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word has no entrance in you.

38 I speak what I have seen with my Father, and ye then do what ye have seen with your father.

39 They answered and said to him, Abraham is our father. Jesus says to them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham;

40 but now ye seek to kill me, a man who has spoken the truth to you, which I have heard fromGod: this did not Abraham.

41 Ye do the works of your father. They said [therefore] to him, We are not born of fornication; we have one father,God.

42 Jesus said to them, IfGod were your father ye would have loved me, for I came forth fromGod and am come [from him]; for neither am I come of myself, but he has sent me.

43 Why do ye not know my speech? Because ye cannot hear my word.

44 Ye are of the devil, as [your] father, and ye desire to do the lusts of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks falsehood, he speaks of what is his own; for he is a liar and its father:

45 and because I speak the truth, ye do not believe me.

46 Which of you convinces me of sin? If I speak truth, why do ye not believe me?

47 He that is ofGod hears the words ofGod: therefore ye hear [them] not, because ye are not ofGod.

48 The Jews answered and said to him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan and hast a demon?

49 Jesus answered, I have not a demon; but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me.

50 But I do not seek my own glory: there is he that seeks and judges.

51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If any one shall keep my word, he shall never see death.

52 The Jews therefore said to him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham has died, and the prophets, and thou sayest, If any one keep my word, he shall never taste death.

53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who has died? and the prophets have died: whom makest thou thyself?

54 Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father who glorifies me, [of] whom ye say, He is ourGod.

55 And ye know him not; but I know him; and if I said, I know him not, I should be like you, a liar. But I know him, and I keep his word.

56 Your father Abraham exulted in that he should see my day, and he saw and rejoiced.

57 The Jews therefore said to him, Thou hast not yet fifty years, and hast thou seen Abraham?

58 Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

59 They took up therefore stones that they might cast [them] at him; but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple, [going through the midst of them, and thus passed on.]

11 She said, “No one, Lord.” Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more.”

12 Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”

13 The Pharisees therefore said to him, “You testify about yourself. Your testimony is not valid.”

14 Jesus answered them, “Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you don’t know where I came from, or where I am going.

15 You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.

16 Even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me.

17 It’s also written in your law that the testimony of two people is valid.

18 I am one who testifies about myself, and the Father who sent me testifies about me.”

19 They said therefore to him, “Where is your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.”

20 Jesus spoke these words in the treasury, as he taught in the temple. Yet no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.

21 Jesus said therefore again to them, “I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sins. Where I go, you can’t come.”

22 The Jews therefore said, “Will he kill himself, because he says, ‘Where I am going, you can’t come’?”

23 He said to them, “You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.

24 I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.”

25 They said therefore to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.

26 I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you. However, he who sent me is true; and the things which I heard from him, these I say to the world.”

27 They didn’t understand that he spoke to them about the Father.

28 Jesus therefore said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and I do nothing of myself, but as my Father taught me, I say these things.

29 He who sent me is with me. The Father hasn’t left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.”

30 As he spoke these things, many believed in him.

31 Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples.

32 You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s offspring, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How do you say, ‘You will be made free’?”

34 Jesus answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin.

35 A bondservant doesn’t live in the house forever. A son remains forever.

36 If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

37 I know that you are Abraham’s offspring, yet you seek to kill me, because my word finds no place in you.

38 I say the things which I have seen with my Father; and you also do the things which you have seen with your father.”

39 They answered him, “Our father is Abraham.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham.

40 But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham didn’t do this.

41 You do the works of your father.” They said to him, “We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father, God.”

42 Therefore Jesus said to them, “If God were your father, you would love me, for I came out and have come from God. For I haven’t come of myself, but he sent me.

43 Why don’t you understand my speech? Because you can’t hear my word.

44 You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn’t stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies.

45 But because I tell the truth, you don’t believe me.

46 Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?

47 He who is of God hears the words of God. For this cause you don’t hear, because you are not of God.”

48 Then the Jews answered him, “Don’t we say well that you are a Samaritan, and have a demon?”

49 Jesus answered, “I don’t have a demon, but I honor my Father and you dishonor me.

50 But I don’t seek my own glory. There is one who seeks and judges.

51 Most certainly, I tell you, if a person keeps my word, he will never see death.”

52 Then the Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, as did the prophets; and you say, ‘If a man keeps my word, he will never taste of death.’

53 Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets died. Who do you make yourself out to be?”

54 Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is our God.

55 You have not known him, but I know him. If I said, ‘I don’t know him,’ I would be like you, a liar. But I know him and keep his word.

56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day. He saw it and was glad.”

57 The Jews therefore said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old! Have you seen Abraham?”

58 Jesus said to them, “Most certainly, I tell you, before Abraham came into existence, I AM.”

59 Therefore they took up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple, having gone through the middle of them, and so passed by.

22 ελεγον ουν οι ιουδαιοι μητι αποκτενει εαυτον οτι λεγει οπου εγω υπαγω υμεις ου δυνασθε ελθειν

23 και ελεγεν αυτοις υμεις εκ των κατω εστε εγω εκ των ανω ειμι υμεις εκ τουτου του κοσμου εστε εγω ουκ ειμι εκ του κοσμου τουτου

24 ειπον ουν υμιν οτι αποθανεισθε εν ταις αμαρτιαις υμων εαν γαρ μη πιστευσητε οτι εγω ειμι αποθανεισθε εν ταις αμαρτιαις υμων

25 ελεγον ουν αυτω συ τις ει ειπεν αυτοις [ο] ιησους την αρχην ο τι και λαλω υμιν

13 The Pharisees, therefore, said to him, `Thou of thyself dost testify, thy testimony is not true;'

14 Jesus answered and said to them, `And if I testify of myself--my testimony is true, because I have known whence I came, and whither I go, and ye--ye have not known whence I come, or whither I go.

15 `Ye according to the flesh do judge; I do not judge any one,

16 and even if I do judge my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me;

17 and also in your law it hath been written, that the testimony of two men are true;

19 They said, therefore, to him, `Where is thy father?' Jesus answered, `Ye have neither known me nor my Father: if me ye had known, my Father also ye had known.'

33 They answered him, `Seed of Abraham we are; and to no one have we been servants at any time; how dost thou say--Ye shall become free?'

34 Jesus answered them, `Verily, verily, I say to you--Every one who is committing sin, is a servant of the sin,

35 and the servant doth not remain in the house--to the age, the son doth remain--to the age;

36 if then the son may make you free, in reality ye shall be free.

37 `I have known that ye are seed of Abraham, but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you;
