John Chapter 6

12 that of John; for the works which the Father hath given me to accomplish, the very works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

13 And the Father that sent me, he hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.

14 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he sent, him ye believe not.

15 Ye search the scriptures, because ye think that in them ye have eternal life; and these are they which bear witness of me;

16 and ye will not come to me, that ye may have life.

17 I receive not glory from men.

18 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in yourselves.

19 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

20 How can ye believe, who receive glory one of another, and the glory that

21 cometh from the only God ye seek not?

22 Think not that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you,

23 even Moses, on whom ye have set your hope.

24 For if ye believed Moses, ye would believe me; for he wrote of me.

25 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

26 After these things Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee, which is

27 the sea of Tiberias.

28 And a great multitude followed him, because they beheld the signs which he did on them that were sick.

29 And Jesus went up into the mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.

30 Now the passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.

31 Jesus therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude cometh unto him, saith unto Philip, Whence are we to buy bread, that these may eat?

32 And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.

33 Philip answered him, Two hundred shillings’ worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one may take a little.

34 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him,

35 There is a lad here, who hath five barley loaves, and two fishes: but what are these among so many?

36 Jesus said, Make the people sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

37 Jesus therefore took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed to them that were set down; likewise also of the fishes as much as they would.

38 And when they were filled, he saith unto his disciples, Gather up the broken pieces which remain over, that nothing be lost.

39 So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which remained over unto them that had eaten.

40 When therefore the people saw the sign which he did, they said, This is of a truth the prophet that cometh into the world.

41 Jesus therefore perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force, to make him king, withdrew again into the mountain himself alone.

42 And when evening came, his disciples went down unto the sea;

43 and they entered into a boat, and were going over the sea unto Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.

44 And the sea was rising by reason of a great wind that blew.

45 When therefore they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they behold Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the boat: and they were afraid.

46 But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.

47 They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat: and straightway the boat was at the land whither they were going.

48 On the morrow the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, save one, and that Jesus entered not with his disciples into the boat, but

49 that his disciples went away alone

50 (howbeit there came boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks):

51 when the multitude therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they themselves got into the boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

52 And when they found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?

53 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw signs, but because ye ate of the loaves, and were filled.

54 Work not for the food which perisheth, but for the food which abideth unto eternal life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him the Father,

55 even God, hath sealed.

56 They said therefore unto him, What must we do, that we may work the works of God?

57 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

58 They said therefore unto him, What then doest thou for a sign, that we may see, and believe thee? what workest thou?

59 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.

60 Jesus therefore said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, It was not Moses that gave you the bread out of heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread out of heaven.

61 For the bread of God is that which cometh down out of heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

62 They said therefore unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.

63 Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall not hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

64 But I said unto you, that ye have seen me, and yet believe not.

65 All that which the Father giveth me shall come unto me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

66 For I am come down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

67 And this is the will of him that sent me, that of all that which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.

68 For this is the will of my Father, that every one that beholdeth the Son, and believeth on him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

69 The Jews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, I am the bread which came down out of heaven.

70 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how doth he now say, I am come down out of heaven?

71 Jesus answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.

3 And Jesus went up into the mountain, and there sat with his disciples:

16 But when evening was come, his disciples went down to the sea,

17 and having gone on board ship, they went over the sea to Capernaum. And it had already become dark, and Jesus had not come to them,

18 and the sea was agitated by a strong wind blowing.

19 Having rowed then about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they see Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the ship; and they were frightened.

20 But he says to them, It is I: be not afraid.

21 They were willing therefore to receive him into the ship; and immediately the ship was at the land to which they went.

22 On the morrow the crowd which stood on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other little ship there except that into which his disciples had got, and that Jesus had not gone with his disciples into the ship, but [that] his disciples had gone away alone;

23 (but other little ships out of Tiberias came near to the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks;)

24 when therefore the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they got into the ships, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

25 And having found him the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when art thou arrived here?

26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me not because ye have seen signs, but because ye have eaten of the loaves and been filled.

27 Work not [for] the food which perishes, but [for] the food which abides unto life eternal, which the Son of man shall give to you; for him has the Father sealed, [even]God.

28 They said therefore to him, What should we do that we may work the works ofGod?

29 Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work ofGod, that ye believe on him whom he has sent.

30 They said therefore to him, What sign then doest thou that we may see and believe thee? what dost thou work?

31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, as it is written, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.

32 Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, [It is] not Moses that has given you the bread out of heaven; but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.

33 For the bread ofGod is he who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.

34 They said therefore to him, Lord, ever give to us this bread.

35 [And] Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: he that comes to me shall never hunger, and he that believes on me shall never thirst at any time.

36 But I have said to you, that ye have also seen me and do not believe.

37 All that the Father gives me shall come to me, and him that comes to me I will not at all cast out.

38 For I am come down from heaven, not that I should do my will, but the will of him that has sent me.

43 Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Murmur not among yourselves.

44 No one can come to me except the Father who has sent me draw him, and I will raise him up in the last day.

45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught ofGod. Every one that has heard from the Father [himself], and has learned [of him], comes to me;

46 not that any one has seen the Father, except he who is ofGod, he has seen the Father.

47 Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believes [on me] has life eternal.

48 I am the bread of life.

49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and died.

50 This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that one may eat of it and not die.

51 I am the living bread which has come down out of heaven: if any one shall have eaten of this bread he shall live for ever; but the bread withal which I shall give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

52 The Jews therefore contended among themselves, saying, How can he give us this flesh to eat?

53 Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Unless ye shall have eaten the flesh of the Son of man, and drunk his blood, ye have no life in yourselves.

54 He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood has life eternal, and I will raise him up at the last day:

55 for my flesh is truly food and my blood is truly drink.

56 He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood dwells in me and I in him.

57 As the living Father has sent me and I live on account of the Father, he also who eats me shall live also on account of me.

58 This is the bread which has come down out of heaven. Not as the fathers ate and died: he that eats this bread shall live for ever.

59 These things he said in [the] synagogue, teaching in Capernaum.

60 Many therefore of his disciples having heard [it] said, This word is hard; who can hear it?

61 But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmur concerning this, said to them, Does this offend you?

62 If then ye see the Son of man ascending up where he was before?

63 It is the Spirit which quickens, the flesh profits nothing: the words which I have spoken unto you are spirit and are life.

64 But there are some of you who do not believe. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would deliver him up.

65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no one can come to me unless it be given to him from the Father.

66 From that [time] many of his disciples went away back and walked no more with him.

67 Jesus therefore said to the twelve, Will ye also go away?

68 Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast words of life eternal;

69 and we have believed and known that thou art the holy one ofGod.

70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you the twelve? and of you one is a devil.

71 Now he spoke of Judas [the son] of Simon, Iscariote, for he [it was who] should deliver him up, being one of the twelve.

63 Si ergo videritis Filium hominis ascendentem ubi erat prius?

64 Spiritus est, qui vivificat: caro non prodest quidquam. verba, quæ ego locutus sum vobis, spiritus et vita sunt.

65 Sed sunt quidam ex vobis, qui non credunt. Sciebat enim ab initio Iesus qui essent non credentes, et quis traditurus esset eum.

44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up in the last day.

45 It is written in the prophets, ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who hears from the Father and has learned, comes to me.

46 Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who is from God. He has seen the Father.

47 Most certainly, I tell you, he who believes in me has eternal life.

48 I am the bread of life.

51 I am the living bread which came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. Yes, the bread which I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

52 The Jews therefore contended with one another, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

53 Jesus therefore said to them, “Most certainly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you don’t have life in yourselves.

54 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

55 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him.

57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on me will also live because of me.

60 Therefore many of his disciples, when they heard this, said, “This is a hard saying! Who can listen to it?”

61 But Jesus knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said to them, “Does this cause you to stumble?

62 Then what if you would see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?

63 It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.

64 But there are some of you who don’t believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who didn’t believe, and who it was who would betray him.

65 He said, “For this cause I have said to you that no one can come to me, unless it is given to him by my Father.”

66 At this, many of his disciples went back and walked no more with him.

67 Jesus said therefore to the twelve, “You don’t also want to go away, do you?”

68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.

69 We have come to believe and know that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

70 Jesus answered them, “Didn’t I choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?”

1 After these things Jesus went away beyond the sea of Galilee (of Tiberias),

2 and there was following him a great multitude, because they were seeing his signs that he was doing on the ailing;

3 and Jesus went up to the mount, and he was there sitting with his disciples,

4 and the passover was nigh, the feast of the Jews.

5 Jesus then having lifted up <FI>his<Fi> eyes and having seen that a great multitude doth come to him, saith unto Philip, `Whence shall we buy loaves, that these may eat?' --

7 Philip answered him, `Two hundred denaries' worth of loaves are not sufficient to them, that each of them may receive some little;'

8 one of his disciples--Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter--saith to him,

10 And Jesus said, `Make the men to sit down;' and there was much grass in the place, the men then sat down, in number, as it were, five thousand,

11 and Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those reclining, in like manner, also of the little fishes as much as they wished.

12 And when they were filled, he saith to his disciples, `Gather together the broken pieces that are over, that nothing may be lost;'

13 they gathered together, therefore, and filled twelve hand-baskets with broken pieces, from the five barley loaves that were over to those having eaten.

14 The men, then, having seen the sign that Jesus did, said--`This is truly the Prophet, who is coming to the world;'

15 Jesus, therefore, having known that they are about to come, and to take him by force that they may make him king, retired again to the mountain himself alone.

17 and having entered into the boat, they were going over the sea to Capernaum, and darkness had already come, and Jesus had not come unto them,

28 They said therefore unto him, `What may we do that we may work the works of God?'

A long, long time ago, there was nothing at all - no earth, no sky, no animals, no people. It was all dark and empty. But God was there! God is so powerful that He can make anything just by speaking. So God said "Let there be light!" and BOOM! There was light everywhere! God saw that the light was beautiful and good. He called the light "day" and the darkness "night." This was the very first day when God started making our wonderful world!

Before anything existed - no planets, stars, or life - God decided to create the universe. The earth started out as a dark, empty place covered with water. But God's Spirit was there, ready to bring order and beauty to everything. When God spoke and said "Let there be light," light immediately appeared because God's words have incredible power.
