John Chapter 13

6 Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews, but departed thence into the country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim; and there he tarried with the disciples.

7 Now the passover of the Jews was at hand: and many went up to Jerusalem out of the country before the passover, to purify themselves.

8 They sought therefore for Jesus, and spake one with another, as they stood in the temple, What think ye? That he will not come to the feast?

9 Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given commandment, that, if any man knew where he was, he should show it, that they might take him.

10 Jesus therefore six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus raised from the dead.

11 So they made him a supper there: and Martha served; but Lazarus was one of them that sat at meat with him.

12 Mary therefore took a pound of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment.

13 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, that should betray him, saith,

14 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred shillings, and given to the poor?

15 Now this he said, not because he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and having the bag took away what was put therein.

16 Jesus therefore said, Suffer her to keep it against the day of my burying.

17 For the poor ye have always with you; but me ye have not always.

18 The common people therefore of the Jews learned that he was there: and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.

19 But the chief priests took counsel that they might put Lazarus also to death;

20 because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.

21 On the morrow a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

22 took the branches of the palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried out, Hosanna: Blessed

23 is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.

24 And Jesus, having found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,

25 Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.

26 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.

27 The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, bare witness.

28 For this cause also the multitude went and met him, for that they heard that he had done this sign.

29 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Behold how ye prevail nothing; lo, the world is gone after him.

30 Now there were certain Greeks among those that went up to worship at the feast:

31 these therefore came to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.

32 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: Andrew cometh, and Philip, and they tell Jesus.

33 And Jesus answereth them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.

34 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat fall into the earth and die, it abideth by itself alone; but if it die, it beareth much fruit.

35 He that loveth his life loseth it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

36 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will the Father honor.

37 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause came I unto this hour.

1 Now before the feast of the passover, Jesus, knowing that his hour had come that he should depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, loved them to the end.

2 And during supper, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas [son] of Simon, Iscariote, that he should deliver him up,

3 [Jesus,] knowing that the Father had given him all things into his hands, and that he came out fromGod and was going toGod,

4 rises from supper and lays aside his garments, and having taken a linen towel he girded himself:

5 then he pours water into the washhand basin, and began to wash the feet of the disciples, and to wipe them with the linen towel with which he was girded.

6 He comes therefore to Simon Peter; and he says to him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?

7 Jesus answered and said to him, What I do thou dost not know now, but thou shalt know hereafter.

8 Peter says to him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, Unless I wash thee, thou hast not part with me.

9 Simon Peter says to him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

10 Jesus says to him, He that is washed all over needs not to wash save his feet, but is wholly clean; and ye are clean, but not all.

11 For he knew him that delivered him up: on account of this he said, Ye are not all clean.

12 When therefore he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, having sat down again, he said to them, Do ye know what I have done to you?

13 Ye call me the Teacher and the Lord, and ye say well, for I am [so].

14 If I therefore, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet;

15 for I have given you an example that, as I have done to you, ye should do also.

16 Verily, verily, I say to you, The bondman is not greater than his lord, nor the sent greater than he who has sent him.

17 If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them.

18 I speak not of you all. I know those whom I have chosen; but that the scripture might be fulfilled, He that eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.

19 I tell you [it] now before it happens, that when it happens, ye may believe that I am [he].

20 Verily, verily, I say to you, He who receives whomsoever I shall send receives me; and he that receives me receives him who has sent me.

21 Having said these things, Jesus was troubled in spirit, and testified and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, that one of you shall deliver me up.

22 The disciples therefore looked one on another, doubting of whom he spoke.

23 Now there was at table one of his disciples in the bosom of Jesus, whom Jesus loved.

24 Simon Peter makes a sign therefore to him to ask who it might be of whom he spoke.

25 But he, leaning on the breast of Jesus, says to him, Lord, who is it?

26 Jesus answers, He it is to whom I, after I have dipped the morsel, give it. And having dipped the morsel, he gives it to Judas [son] of Simon, Iscariote.

27 And, after the morsel, then entered Satan into him. Jesus therefore says to him, What thou doest, do quickly.

28 But none of those at table knew why he said this to him;

29 for some supposed, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus was saying to him, Buy the things of which we have need for the feast; or that he should give something to the poor.

30 Having therefore received the morsel, he went out immediately; and it was night.

31 When therefore he was gone out Jesus says, Now is the Son of man glorified, andGod is glorified in him.

32 IfGod be glorified in him,God also shall glorify him in himself, and shall glorify him immediately.

33 Children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me; and, as I said to the Jews, Where I go ye cannot come, I say to you also now.

34 A new commandment I give to you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

35 By this shall all know that ye are disciples of mine, if ye have love amongst yourselves.

36 Simon Peter says to him, Lord, where goest thou? Jesus answered him, Where I go thou canst not follow me now, but thou shalt follow me after.

37 Peter says to him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thee.

38 Jesus answers, Thou wilt lay down thy life for me! Verily, verily, I say to thee, The cock shall not crow till thou hast denied me thrice.

10 Jesus said to him, “Someone who has bathed only needs to have his feet washed, but is completely clean. You are clean, but not all of you.”

11 For he knew him who would betray him; therefore he said, “You are not all clean.”

12 So when he had washed their feet, put his outer garment back on, and sat down again, he said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?

13 You call me, ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord.’ You say so correctly, for so I am.

14 If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.

15 For I have given you an example, that you should also do as I have done to you.

16 Most certainly I tell you, a servant is not greater than his lord, neither is one who is sent greater than he who sent him.

17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

21 When Jesus had said this, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, “Most certainly I tell you that one of you will betray me.”

22 The disciples looked at one another, perplexed about whom he spoke.

23 One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was at the table, leaning against Jesus’ chest.

24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, and said to him, “Tell us who it is of whom he speaks.”

25 He, leaning back, as he was, on Jesus’ chest, asked him, “Lord, who is it?”

26 Jesus therefore answered, “It is he to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it.” So when he had dipped the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.

27 After the piece of bread, then Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said to him, “What you do, do quickly.”

28 Now nobody at the table knew why he said this to him.

29 For some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus said to him, “Buy what things we need for the feast,” or that he should give something to the poor.

30 Therefore having received that morsel, he went out immediately. It was night.

31 When he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him.

32 If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him immediately.

33 Little children, I will be with you a little while longer. You will seek me, and as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you can’t come,’ so now I tell you.

34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also love one another.

35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

36 Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus answered, “Where I am going, you can’t follow now, but you will follow afterwards.”

38 Jesus answered him, “Will you lay down your life for me? Most certainly I tell you, the rooster won’t crow until you have denied me three times.

24 Simon Peter, then, doth beckon to this one, to inquire who he may be concerning whom he speaketh,

25 and that one having leant back on the breast of Jesus, respondeth to him, `Sir, who is it?'

27 And after the morsel, then the Adversary entered into that one, Jesus, therefore, saith to him, `What thou dost--do quickly;'

29 for certain were thinking, since Judas had the bag, that Jesus saith to him, `Buy what we have need of for the feast;' or that he may give something to the poor;
