1 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died: whom makest thou thyself?
2 Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father that glorifieth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God;
3 and ye have not known him: but I know him; and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be like unto you, a liar: but I know him, and keep his word.
4 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day; and he saw it, and was glad.
5 The Jews therefore said unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
6 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was born, I am.
7 They took up stones therefore to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple.
8 And as he passed by, he saw a man blind from his birth.
9 And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind?
10 Jesus answered, Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
11 We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
12 When I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
13 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay,
14 and said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent). He went away therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
15 The neighbors therefore, and they that saw him aforetime, that he was a beggar, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
16 Others said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am
17 he.
18 They said therefore unto him, How then were thine eyes opened?
19 He answered, The man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to Siloam, and wash: so I went away and washed, and I received sight.
20 And they said unto him, Where is he? He saith, I know not.
21 They bring to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.
22 Now it was the sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
23 Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. And he said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and I see.
24 Some therefore of the Pharisees said, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. But others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was a division among them.
25 They say therefore unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, in that he opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.
26 The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight,
27 and asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?
28 His parents answered and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:
29 but how he now seeth, we know not; or who opened his eyes, we know not: ask him; he is of age; he shall speak for himself.
30 These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him
31 to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
32 Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.
33 So they called a second time the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give glory to God: we know that this man is a sinner.
34 He therefore answered, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
35 They said therefore unto him, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?
36 He answered them, I told you even now, and ye did not hear; wherefore would ye hear it again? would ye also become his disciples?
37 And they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are disciples of Moses.
38 We know that God hath spoken unto Moses: but as for this man, we know not whence he is.
39 The man answered and said unto them, Why, herein is the marvel, that ye know not whence he is, and
40 yet he opened mine eyes.
41 We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and do his will, him he heareth.
42 Since the world began it was never heard that any one opened the eyes of a man born blind.

1 Verily, verily, I say to you, He that enters not in by the door to the fold of the sheep, but mounts up elsewhere, he is a thief and a robber;
2 but he that enters in by the door is [the] shepherd of the sheep.
3 To him the porter opens; and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name, and leads them out.
4 When he has put forth all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice.
5 But they will not follow a stranger, but will flee from him, because they know not the voice of strangers.
6 This allegory spoke Jesus to them, but they did not know what it was [of] which he spoke to them.
7 Jesus therefore said again to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
8 All whoever came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not hear them.
9 I am the door: if any one enter in by me, he shall be saved, and shall go in and shall go out and shall find pasture.
10 The thief comes not but that he may steal, and kill, and destroy: I am come that they might have life, and might have [it] abundantly.
11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep:
12 but he who serves for wages, and who is not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf seizes them and scatters the sheep.
13 Now he who serves for wages flees because he serves for wages, and is not himself concerned about the sheep.
14 I am the good shepherd; and I know those that are mine, and am known of those that are mine,
15 as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.
16 And I have other sheep which are not of this fold: those also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one flock, one shepherd.
17 On this account the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it again.
18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have authority to lay it down and I have authority to take it again. I have received this commandment of my Father.
19 There was a division again among the Jews on account of these words;
20 but many of them said, He has a demon and raves; why do ye hear him?
21 Others said, These sayings are not [those] of one that is possessed by a demon. Can a demon open blind people's eyes?
22 Now the feast of the dedication was celebrating at Jerusalem, and it was winter.
23 And Jesus walked in the temple in the porch of Solomon.
24 The Jews therefore surrounded him, and said to him, Until when dost thou hold our soul in suspense? If thou art the Christ, say [so] to us openly.
25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye do not believe. The works which I do in my Father's name, these bear witness concerning me:
26 but ye do not believe, for ye are not of my sheep, as I told you.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me;
28 and I give them life eternal; and they shall never perish, and no one shall seize them out of my hand.
29 My Father who has given [them] to me is greater than all, and no one can seize out of the hand of my Father.
30 I and the Father are one.
31 The Jews therefore again took stones that they might stone him.
32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewn you of my Father; for which work of them do ye stone me?
33 The Jews answered him, For a good work we stone thee not, but for blasphemy, and because thou, being a man, makest thyselfGod.
34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye aregods?
35 If he called themgods to whom the word ofGod came (and the scripture cannot be broken),
36 do ye say of him whom the Father has sanctified and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest, because I said, I am Son ofGod?
37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not;
38 but if I do, even if ye believe not me, believe the works, that ye may know [and believe] that the Father is in me and I in him.
39 They sought therefore again to take him; and he went away from out of their hand
40 and departed again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was baptising at the first: and he abode there.
41 And many came to him, and said, John did no sign; but all things which John said of this [man] were true.
42 And many believed on him there.

11 Ego sum pastor bonus. Bonus pastor animam suam dat pro ovibus suis.
12 Mercenarius autem, et qui non est pastor, cuius non sunt oves propriæ, videt lupum venientem, et dimittit oves, et fugit: et lupus rapit, et dispergit oves:
13 mercenarius autem fugit, quia mercenarius est, et non pertinet ad eum de ovibus.

21 Alii dicebant: Hæc verba non sunt dæmonium habentis: numquid dæmonium potest cæcorum oculos aperire?
22 Facta sunt autem Encænia in Ierosolymis: et hiems erat.
23 Et ambulabat Iesus in templo, in porticu Salomonis.
24 Circumdederunt ergo eum Iudæi, et dicebant ei: Quousque animam nostram tollis? si tu es Christus, dic nobis palam.
25 Respondit eis Iesus: Loquor vobis, et non creditis. opera, quæ ego facio in nomine Patris mei, hæc testimonium perhibent de me:
26 sed vos non creditis, quia non estis ex ovibus meis.
27 Oves meæ vocem meam audiunt: et ego cognosco eas, et sequuntur me:
28 et ego vitam æternam do eis: et non peribunt in æternum, et non rapiet eas quisquam de manu mea.
29 Pater meus quod dedit mihi, maius omnibus est: et nemo potest rapere de manu Patris mei.

31 Sustulerunt ergo lapides Iudæi, ut lapidarent eum.
32 Respondit eis Iesus: Multa bona opera ostendi vobis ex Patre meo, propter quod eorum opus me lapidatis?
33 Responderunt ei Iudæi: De bono opere non lapidamus te, sed de blasphemia: et quia tu homo cum sis, facis teipsum Deum.
34 Respondit eis Iesus: Nonne scriptum est in lege vestra: quia Ego dixi, dii estis?
35 Si illos dixit deos, ad quos sermo Dei factus est, et non potest solvi scriptura:
36 quem Pater sanctificavit, et misit in mundum, vos dicitis: Quia blasphemas: quia dixi, Filius Dei sum?
37 Si non facio opera Patris mei, nolite credere mihi.
38 Si autem facio: et si mihi non vultis credere, operibus credite, ut cognoscatis, et credatis quia Pater in me est, et ego in Patre.
39 Quærebant ergo eum apprehendere: et exivit de manibus eorum.
40 Et abiit iterum trans Iordanem in eum locum, ubi erat Ioannes baptizans primum: et mansit illic:
41 et multi venerunt ad eum, et dicebant: Quia Ioannes quidem signum fecit nullum.
42 Omnia autem quæcumque dixit Ioannes de hoc, vera erant. Et multi crediderunt in eum.

1 “Most certainly, I tell you, one who doesn’t enter by the door into the sheep fold, but climbs up some other way, is a thief and a robber.
2 But one who enters in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
4 Whenever he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.
5 They will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him; for they don’t know the voice of strangers.”
6 Jesus spoke this parable to them, but they didn’t understand what he was telling them.
7 Jesus therefore said to them again, “Most certainly, I tell you, I am the sheep’s door.
8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep didn’t listen to them.
9 I am the door. If anyone enters in by me, he will be saved, and will go in and go out and will find pasture.
10 The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
12 He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who doesn’t own the sheep, sees the wolf coming, leaves the sheep, and flees. The wolf snatches the sheep and scatters them.
13 The hired hand flees because he is a hired hand and doesn’t care for the sheep.
14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and I’m known by my own;
15 even as the Father knows me, and I know the Father. I lay down my life for the sheep.
16 I have other sheep which are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will hear my voice. They will become one flock with one shepherd.

21 Others said, “These are not the sayings of one possessed by a demon. It isn’t possible for a demon to open the eyes of the blind, is it?”
22 It was the Feast of the Dedication at Jerusalem.
23 It was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple, in Solomon’s porch.
24 The Jews therefore came around him and said to him, “How long will you hold us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”
25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you don’t believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name, these testify about me.
26 But you don’t believe, because you are not of my sheep, as I told you.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
28 I give eternal life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
29 My Father who has given them to me is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hand.
30 I and the Father are one.”
31 Therefore the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
32 Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from my Father. For which of those works do you stone me?”
33 The Jews answered him, “We don’t stone you for a good work, but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.”
34 Jesus answered them, “Isn’t it written in your law, ‘I said, you are gods’?
35 If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture can’t be broken),
36 do you say of him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You blaspheme,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’?
37 If I don’t do the works of my Father, don’t believe me.
38 But if I do them, though you don’t believe me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.”
39 They sought again to seize him, and he went out of their hand.
40 He went away again beyond the Jordan into the place where John was baptizing at first, and he stayed there.
41 Many came to him. They said, “John indeed did no sign, but everything that John said about this man is true.”
42 Many believed in him there.

24 the Jews, therefore, came round about him, and said to him, `Till when our soul dost thou hold in suspense? if thou art the Christ, tell us freely.'
25 Jesus answered them, `I told you, and ye do not believe; the works that I do in the name of my Father, these testify concerning me;
26 but ye do not believe, for ye are not of my sheep,
27 according as I said to you: My sheep my voice do hear, and I know them, and they follow me,
28 and life age-during I give to them, and they shall not perish--to the age, and no one shall pluck them out of my hand;
29 my Father, who hath given to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to pluck out of the hand of my Father;
