Matthew Chapter 10

1 And he said unto them, Go. And they came out, and went into the swine: and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep into the sea, and perished in the waters.

2 And they that fed them fled, and went away into the city, and told everything, and what was befallen to them that were possessed with demons.

3 And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought

4 him that he would depart from their borders.

5 And he entered into a boat, and crossed over, and came into his own city.

6 And behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, be of good cheer; thy sins are forgiven.

7 And behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.

8 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?

9 For which is easier, to say, Thy sins are forgiven; or to say, Arise, and walk?

10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath authority on earth to forgive sins (then saith he to the sick of the palsy), Arise, and take up thy bed, and go unto thy house.

11 And he arose, and departed to his house.

12 But when the multitudes saw it, they were afraid, and glorified God, who had given such authority unto men.

13 And as Jesus passed by from thence, he saw a man, called Matthew, sitting at the place of toll: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

14 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples.

15 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Teacher with the publicans and sinners?

16 But when he heard it, he said, They that are whole have no need of a physician, but they that are sick.

17 But go ye and learn what

18 this meaneth, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice: for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.

19 Then come to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?

20 And Jesus said unto them, Can the sons of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then will they fast.

21 And no man putteth a piece of undressed cloth upon an old garment; for that which should fill it up taketh from the garment, and a worse rent is made.

22 Neither do

23 men put new wine into old wine-skins: else the skins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the skins perish: but they put new wine into fresh wine-skins, and both are preserved.

24 While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

25 And Jesus arose, and followed him, and

26 so did his disciples.

27 And behold, a woman, who had an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the border of his garment:

28 for she said within herself, If I do but touch his garment, I shall be made whole.

29 But Jesus turning and seeing her said, Daughter, be of good cheer; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.

30 And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute-players, and the crowd making a tumult,

31 he said, Give place: for the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.

32 But when the crowd was put forth, he entered in, and took her by the hand; and the damsel arose.

33 And the fame hereof went forth into all that land.

34 And as Jesus passed by from thence, two blind men followed him, crying out, and saying, Have mercy on us, thou son of David.

35 And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They say unto him, Yea, Lord.

36 Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it done unto you.

37 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus strictly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.

38 But they went forth, and spread abroad his fame in all that land.

39 And as they went forth, behold, there was brought to him a dumb man possessed with a demon.

40 And when the demon was cast out, the dumb man spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.

41 But the Pharisees said, By the prince of the demons casteth he out demons.

42 And Jesus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness.

7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of the heavens has drawn nigh.

8 Heal [the] infirm, [raise the dead], cleanse lepers, cast out demons: ye have received gratuitously, give gratuitously.

9 Do not provide yourselves with gold, or silver, or brass, for your belts,

10 nor scrip for the way, nor two body coats, nor sandals, nor a staff: for the workman is worthy of his nourishment.

11 But into whatsoever city or village ye enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and there remain till ye go forth.

12 And as ye enter into a house salute it.

13 And if the house indeed be worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, as ye go forth out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.

15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in judgment-day than for that city.

16 Behold, I send you as sheep in the midst of wolves; be therefore prudent as the serpents, and guileless as the doves.

17 But beware of men; for they will deliver you up to sanhedrims, and scourge you in their synagogues;

18 and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the nations.

19 But when they deliver you up, be not careful how or what ye shall speak; for it shall be given to you in that hour what ye shall speak.

20 For ye are not the speakers, but the Spirit of your Father which speaks in you.

21 But brother shall deliver up brother to death, and father child; and children shall rise up against parents and shall put them to death;

22 and ye shall be hated of all on account of my name. But he that has endured to [the] end, he shall be saved.

23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee to the other; for verily I say to you, Ye shall not have completed the cities of Israel until the Son of man be come.

24 The disciple is not above his teacher, nor the bondman above his lord.

25 [It is] sufficient for the disciple that he should become as his teacher, and the bondman as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more those of his household?

26 Fear them not therefore; for there is nothing covered which shall not be revealed, and secret which shall not be known.

27 What I say to you in darkness speak in the light, and what ye hear in the ear preach upon the houses.

28 And be not afraid of those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul; but fear rather him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall to the ground without your Father;

30 but of you even the hairs of the head are all numbered.

31 Fear not therefore; ye are better than many sparrows.

32 Every one therefore who shall confess me before men, I also will confess him before my Father who is in [the] heavens.

33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father who is in [the] heavens.

34 Do not think that I have come to send peace upon the earth: I have not come to send peace, but a sword.

35 For I have come to set a man at variance with his father, and the daughter with her mother, and the daughter-in-law with her mother-in-law;

36 and they of his household [shall be] a man's enemies.

37 He who loves father or mother above me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter above me is not worthy of me.

38 And he who does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.

39 He that finds his life shall lose it, and he who has lost his life for my sake shall find it.

40 He that receives you receives me, and he that receives me receives him that sent me.

41 He that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man, shall receive a righteous man's reward.

42 And whosoever shall give to drink to one of these little ones a cup of cold [water] only, in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

8 infirm ones be healing, lepers be cleansing, dead be raising, demons be casting out--freely ye did receive, freely give.
