Numbers Chapter 10

1 Then let them take a young bullock, and its meal-offering, fine flour mingled with oil; and another young bullock shalt thou take for a sin-offering.

2 And thou shalt present the Levites before the tent of meeting: and thou shalt assemble the whole congregation of the children of Israel:

3 and thou shalt present the Levites before Jehovah. And the children of Israel shall lay their hands upon the Levites:

4 and Aaron shall offer the Levites before Jehovah for a wave-offering, on the behalf of the children of Israel, that it may be theirs to do the service of Jehovah.

5 And the Levites shall lay their hands upon the heads of the bullocks: and offer thou the one for a sin-offering, and the other for a burnt-offering, unto Jehovah, to make atonement for the Levites.

6 And thou shalt set the Levites before Aaron, and before his sons, and offer them for a wave-offering unto Jehovah.

7 Thus shalt thou separate the Levites from among the children of Israel; and the Levites shall be mine.

8 And after that shall the Levites go in to do the service of the tent of meeting: and thou shalt cleanse them, and offer them for a wave-offering.

9 For they are wholly given unto me from among the children of Israel; instead of all that openeth the womb, even the first-born of all the children of Israel, have I taken them unto me.

10 For all the first-born among the children of Israel are mine, both man and beast: on the day that I smote all the first-born in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for myself.

11 And I have taken the Levites instead of all the first-born among the children of Israel.

12 And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the tent of meeting, and to make atonement for the children of Israel; that there be no plague among the children of Israel, when the children of Israel come nigh unto the sanctuary.

13 Thus did Moses, and Aaron, and all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the Levites: according unto all that Jehovah commanded Moses touching the Levites, so did the children of Israel unto them.

14 And the Levites purified themselves from sin, and they washed their clothes: and Aaron offered them for a wave-offering before Jehovah; and Aaron made atonement for them to cleanse them.

15 And after that went the Levites in to do their service in the tent of meeting before Aaron, and before his sons: as Jehovah had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did they unto them.

16 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,

17 This is that which belongeth unto the Levites: from twenty and five years old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service in the work of the tent of meeting:

18 and from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the work, and shall serve no more,

19 but shall minister with their brethren in the tent of meeting, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shalt thou do unto the Levites touching their charges.

20 And Jehovah spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

21 Moreover let the children of Israel keep the passover in its appointed season.

22 In the fourteenth day of this month, at even, ye shall keep it in its appointed season: according to all the statutes of it, and according to all the ordinances thereof, shall ye keep it.

23 And Moses spake unto the children of Israel, that they should keep the passover.

24 And they kept the passover in the first

25 month, on the fourteenth day of the month, at even, in the wilderness of Sinai: according to all that Jehovah commanded Moses, so did the children of Israel.

26 And there were certain men, who were unclean by reason of the dead body of a man, so that they could not keep the passover on that day: and they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day:

27 and those men said unto him, We are unclean by reason of the dead body of a man: wherefore are we kept back, that we may not offer the oblation of Jehovah in its appointed season among the children of Israel?

28 And Moses said unto them, Stay ye, that I may hear what Jehovah will command concerning you.

29 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,

30 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If any man of you or of your generations shall be unclean by reason of a dead body, or be on a journey afar off, yet he shall keep the passover unto Jehovah.

31 In the second month on the fourteenth day at even they shall keep it; they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs:

32 they shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor break a bone thereof: according to all the statute of the passover they shall keep it.

33 But the man that is clean, and is not on a journey, and forbeareth to keep the passover, that soul shall be cut off from his people; because he offered not the oblation of Jehovah in its appointed season, that man shall bear his sin.

34 And if a stranger shall sojourn among you, and will keep the passover unto Jehovah; according to the statute of the passover, and according to the ordinance thereof, so shall he do: ye shall have one statute, both for the sojourner, and for him that is born in the land.

35 And on the day that the tabernacle was reared up the cloud covered the tabernacle, even the tent of the testimony: and at even it was upon the tabernacle as it were the appearance of fire, until morning.

36 So it was alway: the cloud covered it, and the appearance of fire by night.

10 And in the day of your gladness, and in your set feasts, and in your new moons, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt-offerings and over your sacrifices of peace-offering; and they shall be to you for a memorial before yourGod: I am Jehovah yourGod.

11 And it came to pass in the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth of the month, that the cloud was taken up from off the tabernacle of the testimony.

12 And the children of Israel set forward according to their journeys out of the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud stood still in the wilderness of Paran.

13 And they first took their journey, according to the commandment of Jehovah through Moses.

14 The standard of the camp of the children of Judah set forward first according to their hosts, and over his host was Nahshon the son of Amminadab;

15 and over the host of the tribe of the children of Issachar was Nethaneel the son of Zuar;

16 and over the host of the tribe of the children of Zebulun was Eliab the son of Helon.

17 And the tabernacle was taken down; and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set forward bearing the tabernacle.

18 And the standard of the camp of Reuben set forward according to their hosts, and over his host was Elizur the son of Shedeur;

19 and over the host of the tribe of the children of Simeon was Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai;

20 and over the host of the tribe of the children of Gad was Eliasaph the son of Deuel.

21 And the Kohathites set forward bearing the sanctuary: and [the others] set up the tabernacle whilst they came.

22 And the standard of the camp of the children of Ephraim set forward according to their hosts, and over his host was Elishama the son of Ammihud;

23 and over the host of the tribe of the children of Manasseh was Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur;

24 and over the host of the tribe of the children of Benjamin was Abidan the son of Gideoni.

25 And the standard of the camp of the children of Dan set forward, the rear-guard of all the camps according to their hosts, and over his host was Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai;

26 and over the host of the tribe of the children of Asher was Pagiel the son of Ocran;

27 and over the host of the tribe of the children of Naphtali was Ahira the son of Enan.

28 These were the settings forward of the children of Israel according to their hosts: so did they set forward.

29 And Moses said to Hobab, the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, We are journeying to the place of which Jehovah said, I will give it unto you: come with us, and we will do thee good; for Jehovah has spoken good concerning Israel.

30 And he said to him, I will not go; but to mine own land, and to my kindred will I go.

31 And he said, Leave me not, I pray thee, because thou knowest where we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou wilt be to us for eyes.

32 And it shall be, if thou come with us, that whatever good Jehovah doeth unto us, so will we do to thee.

33 And they set forward from the mountain of Jehovah [and went] three days' journey; and the ark of the covenant of Jehovah went before them in the three days' journey, to search out a resting-place for them.

34 And the cloud of Jehovah was over them by day when they set forward out of the camp.

35 And it came to pass when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise up, Jehovah, and let thine enemies be scattered; And let them that hate thee flee before thy face.

36 And when it rested, he said, Return, Jehovah, unto the myriads of the thousands of Israel.

9 And if ye shall go forth to war in your land against your enemies that are opposed to you, then shall ye sound with the trumpets; and ye shall be had in remembrance before the Lord, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.

10 And in the days of your gladness, and in your feasts, and in your new moons, ye shall sound with the trumpets at your whole-burnt-offerings, and at the sacrifices of your peace-offerings; and there shall be a memorial for you before your God: I [am] the Lord your God.

11 And it came to pass in the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth day of the month, the cloud went up from the tabernacle of witness.

12 And the children of Israel set forward with their baggage in the wilderness of Sina; and the cloud rested in the wilderness of Pharan.

13 And the first rank departed by the word of the Lord by the hand of Moses.

14 And they first set in motion the order of the camp of the children of Juda with their host; and over their host [was] Naasson, son of Aminadab.

15 And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Issachar, [was] Nathanael son of Sogar.

16 And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Zabulon, [was] Eliab the son of Chælon.

17 And they shall take down the tabernacle, and the sons of Gedson shall set forward, and the sons of Merari, who bear the tabernacle.

18 And the order of the camp of Ruben set forward with their host; and over their host [was] Elisur the son of Sediur.

19 And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Symeon, [was] Salamiel son of Surisadai.

20 And over the host of the tribe of the children of Gad, [was] Elisaph the son of Raguel.

21 And the sons of Caath shall set forward bearing the holy things, and [the others] shall set up the tabernacle until they arrive.

22 And the order of the camp of Ephraim shall set forward with their forces; and over their forces [was] Elisama the son of Semiud.

23 And over the forces of the tribe of the sons of Manasse, [was] Gamaliel the [son] of Phadassur.

24 And over the forces of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, [was] Abidan the [son] of Gadeoni.

25 And the order of the camp of the sons of Dan shall set forward the last of all the camps, with their forces: and over their forces [was] Achiezer the [son] of Amisadai.

26 And over the forces of the tribe of the sons of Aser, [was] Phageel the son of Echran.

27 And over the forces of the tribe of the sons of Nephthali, [was] Achire the son of Ænan.

28 These [are] the armies of the children of Israel; and they set forward with their forces.

29 And Moses said to Obab the son of Raguel the Madianite, the father-in-law of Moses, We are going forward to the place concerning which the Lord said, This will I give to you: Come with us, and we will do thee good, for the Lord has spoken good concerning Israel.

30 And he said to him, I will not go, but [I will go] to my land and to my kindred.

31 And he said, Leave us not, because thou hast been with us in the wilderness, and thou shalt be an elder among us.

32 And it shall come to pass if thou wilt go with us, it shall even come to pass that in whatsoever things the Lord shall do us good, we will also do thee good.

33 And they departed from the mount of the Lord a three days' journey; and the ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them a three days' journey to provide rest for them.

34 And it came to pass when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Arise, O Lord, and let thine enemies be scattered: let all that hate thee flee.

35 And in the resting he said, Turn again, O Lord, the thousands [and] tens of thousands in Israel.

36 And the cloud overshadowed them by day, when they departed from the camp.

2 “Make two trumpets of silver. You shall make them of beaten work. You shall use them for the calling of the congregation and for the journeying of the camps.

3 When they blow them, all the congregation shall gather themselves to you at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

4 If they blow just one, then the princes, the heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves to you.

12 The children of Israel went forward on their journeys out of the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud stayed in the wilderness of Paran.

29 Moses said to Hobab, the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are journeying to the place of which the LORD said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will treat you well; for the LORD has spoken good concerning Israel.”

30 He said to him, “I will not go; but I will depart to my own land, and to my relatives.”

31 Moses said, “Don’t leave us, please; because you know how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes.

32 It shall be, if you go with us—yes, it shall be—that whatever good the LORD does to us, we will do the same to you.”

33 They set forward from the Mount of the LORD three days’ journey. The ark of the LORD’s covenant went before them three days’ journey, to seek out a resting place for them.

34 The cloud of the LORD was over them by day, when they set forward from the camp.

35 When the ark went forward, Moses said, “Rise up, LORD, and let your enemies be scattered! Let those who hate you flee before you!”

36 When it rested, he said, “Return, LORD, to the ten thousands of the thousands of Israel.”

32 and it hath come to pass when thou goest with us, yea, it hath come to pass--that good which Jehovah doth kindly with us--it we have done kindly to thee.'

33 And they journey from the mount of Jehovah a journey of three days; and the ark of the covenant of Jehovah is journeying before them the journey of three days, to spy out for them a resting-place;
