and he that is courageous among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day, saith Jehovah.

Hear this word that Jehovah hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt, saying,
5
You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will visit upon you all your iniquities.
6
Shall two walk together, except they have agreed?
7
Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?
8
Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is
9
set for him? shall a snare spring up from the ground, and have taken nothing at all?
10
Shall the trumpet be blown in a city, and the people not be afraid? shall evil befall a city, and Jehovah hath not done it?
11
Surely the Lord Jehovah will do nothing, except he reveal his secret unto his servants the prophets.
12
The lion hath roared; who will not fear? The Lord Jehovah hath spoken; who can but prophesy?
13
Publish ye in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold what great tumults are therein, and what oppressions in the midst thereof.
14
For they know not to do right, saith Jehovah, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.

and they know not to do right, saith Jehovah, who store up violence and plunder in their palaces.

Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: An adversary! — even round about the land! And he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be pillaged.
12
Thus saith Jehovah: Like as the shepherd rescueth out of the jaw of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be rescued that sit in Samaria in the corner of a couch, and upon the damask of a bed.
13
Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord Jehovah, theGod of hosts,
14
that in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him, I will also punish the altars of Bethel; and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.
15
And I will smite the winter-house with the summer-house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and many houses shall have an end, saith Jehovah.

You especially have I known out of all the families of the earth: therefore will I take vengeance upon you for all your sins.

Shall two walk together at all, if they do not know one another?
4
Will a lion roar out of his thicket if he has no prey? will a [lion's] whelp utter his voice at all out of his lair, if he have taken nothing?
5
Will a bird fall on the earth without a fowler? will a snare be taken up from the earth without having taken anything?
6
Shall the trumpet sound in the city, and the people not be alarmed? shall there be evil in a city which the Lord has not wrought?
7
For the Lord God will do nothing, without revealing instruction to his servants the prophets.

A lion shall roar, and who will not be alarmed? the Lord God has spoken, and who will not prophesy?

Proclaim it to the regions among the Assyrians, and to the regions of Egypt, and say, Gather yourselves to the mountain of Samaria, and behold many wonderful things in the midst of it, and the oppression that is in it.

And she knew not what things would come against her, saith the Lord, [even] those that store up wrong and misery in their countries.
11
Therefore thus saith the Lord God; O Tyre, thy land shall be made desolate round about [thee]; and he shall bring down thy strength out of thee, and thy countries shall be spoiled.
12
Thus saith the Lord; As when a shepherd rescues from the mouth of a lion two legs or a piece of an ear, so shall be drawn forth the children of Israel who dwell in Samaria in the presence of [a foreign] tribe, and in Damascus.

Hear, O ye priests, and testify to the house of Jacob, saith the Lord God Almighty.

For in the day wherein I shall take vengeance of the sins of Israel upon him, I will also take vengeance on the altars of Bæthel: and the horns of the altar shall be broken down, and they shall fall upon the ground.

I will crush and smite the turreted-house upon the summer-house; and the ivory-houses shall be destroyed, and many other houses also, saith the Lord.

Can a bird fall in a trap on the earth, where no snare is set for him? Does a snare spring up from the ground, when there is nothing to catch?

Does the trumpet alarm sound in a city, without the people being afraid? Does evil happen to a city, and the LORD hasn’t done it?

Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, unless he reveals his secret to his servants the prophets.

The lion has roared. Who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken. Who can but prophesy?

Proclaim in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, “Assemble yourselves on the mountains of Samaria, and see what unrest is in her, and what oppression is among them.”

“Indeed they don’t know to do right,” says the LORD, “Who hoard plunder and loot in their palaces.”

Therefore the Lord GOD says: “An adversary will overrun the land; and he will pull down your strongholds, and your fortresses will be plundered.”

For in the day of My charging the transgressions of Israel on him, I have laid a charge on the altars of Beth-El, And cut off have been the horns of the altar, And they have fallen to the earth.

And I have smitten the winter-house with the summer-house, And perished have houses of ivory, And consumed have been many houses, An affirmation of Jehovah!
