1 And the priest shall make atonement for him as touching his sin that he hath sinned in any of these things, and he shall be forgiven: and
2 the remnant shall be the priest’s, as the meal-offering.
3 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,
4 If any one commit a trespass, and sin unwittingly, in the holy things of Jehovah; then he shall bring his trespass-offering unto Jehovah, a ram without blemish out of the flock, according to thy estimation in silver by shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for a trespass-offering:
5 and he shall make restitution for that which he hath done amiss in the holy thing, and shall add the fifth part thereto, and give it unto the priest; and the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the trespass-offering, and he shall be forgiven.
6 And if any one sin, and do any of the things which Jehovah hath commanded not to be done; though he knew it not, yet is he guilty, and shall bear his iniquity.
7 And he shall bring a ram without blemish out of the flock, according to thy estimation, for a trespass-offering, unto the priest; and the priest shall make atonement for him concerning the thing wherein he erred unwittingly and knew it not, and he shall be forgiven.
8 It is a trespass-offering: he is certainly guilty before Jehovah.
9 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,
10 If any one sin, and commit a trespass against Jehovah, and deal falsely with his neighbor in a matter of deposit, or of bargain, or of robbery, or have oppressed his neighbor,
11 or have found that which was lost, and deal falsely therein, and swear to a lie; in any of all these things that a man doeth, sinning therein;
12 then it shall be, if he hath sinned, and is guilty, that he shall restore that which he took by robbery, or the thing which he hath gotten by oppression, or the deposit which was committed to him, or the lost thing which he found,
13 or any thing about which he hath sworn falsely; he shall even restore it in full, and shall add the fifth part more thereto: unto him to whom it appertaineth shall he give it, in the day of his being found guilty.
14 And he shall bring his trespass-offering unto Jehovah, a ram without blemish out of the flock, according to thy estimation, for a trespass-offering, unto the priest:
15 and the priest shall make atonement for him before Jehovah; and he shall be forgiven concerning whatsoever he doeth so as to be guilty thereby.
16 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,
17 Command Aaron and his sons, saying, This is the law of the burnt-offering: the burnt-offering shall be on the hearth upon the altar all night unto the morning; and the fire of the altar shall be kept burning thereon.
18 And the priest shall put on his linen garment, and his linen breeches shall he put upon his flesh; and he shall take up the ashes whereto the fire hath consumed the burnt-offering on the altar, and he shall put them beside the altar.
19 And he shall put off his garments, and put on other garments, and carry forth the ashes without the camp unto a clean place.
20 And the fire upon the altar shall be kept burning thereon, it shall not go out; and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning: and he shall lay the burnt-offering in order upon it, and shall burn thereon the fat of the peace-offerings.
21 Fire shall be kept burning upon the altar continually; it shall not go out.
22 And this is the law of the meal-offering: the sons of Aaron shall offer it before Jehovah, before the altar.
23 And he shall take up therefrom his handful, of the fine flour of the meal-offering, and of the oil thereof, and all the frankincense which is upon the meal-offering, and shall burn it upon the altar for a sweet savor, as the memorial thereof, unto Jehovah.
24 And that which is left thereof shall Aaron and his sons eat: it shall be eaten without leaven in a holy place; in the court of the tent of meeting they shall eat it.
25 It shall not be baken with leaven. I have given it as their portion of my offerings made by fire; it is most holy, as the sin-offering, and as the trespass-offering.
26 Every male among the children of Aaron shall eat of it, as
27 his portion for ever throughout your generations, from the offerings of Jehovah made by fire: whosoever toucheth them shall be holy.
28 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,
29 This is the oblation of Aaron and of his sons, which they shall offer unto Jehovah in the day when he is anointed: the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour for a meal-offering perpetually, half of it in the morning, and half thereof in the evening.
30 On a baking-pan it shall be made with oil; when it is soaked, thou shalt bring it in: in baken pieces shalt thou offer the meal-offering for a sweet savor unto Jehovah.

1 And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
2 If any one sin and act unfaithfully against Jehovah, and lie to his neighbour as to an entrusted thing or a deposit or [that in which] he hath robbed or wronged his neighbour,
3 or have found what was lost, and denieth it, and sweareth falsely in anything of all that man doeth, sinning therein;
4 then it shall be, if he hath sinned and transgressed, that he shall restore what he robbed or that in which he hath defrauded, or the deposit, or the lost thing which he found,
5 or all that about which he hath sworn falsely; and he shall restore it in the principal, and shall add the fifth part more thereto; to [him to] whom it belongeth shall he give it, on the day of his trespass-offering.
6 And his trespass-offering shall he bring to Jehovah, a ram without blemish out of the small cattle according to thy valuation, as a trespass-offering, unto the priest.
7 And the priest shall make atonement for him before Jehovah, and it shall be forgiven him concerning anything of all that he hath done so as to trespass therein.
8 And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
9 Command Aaron and his sons, saying, This is the law of the burnt-offering; this, the burnt-offering, shall be on the hearth on the altar all night unto the morning, and the fire of the altar shall be kept burning on it.
10 And the priest shall put on his linen raiment, and his linen breeches shall he put on his flesh, and take up the ashes to which the fire hath consumed the burnt-offering on the altar, and he shall put them beside the altar.
11 And he shall put off his garments, and put on other garments, and carry forth the ashes without the camp unto a clean place.
12 And the fire upon the altar shall be kept burning on it: it shall not be put out; and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt-offering in order upon it; and he shall burn thereon the fat of the peace-offerings.
13 A continual fire shall be kept burning on the altar: it shall never go out.
14 And this is the law of the oblation: [one of] the sons of Aaron shall present it before Jehovah, before the altar.
15 And he shall take of it his handful of the fine flour of the oblation, and of the oil thereof, and all the frankincense which is on the meat-offering, and shall burn [it] on the altar: [it is] a sweet odour of the memorial thereof to Jehovah.
16 And the remainder thereof shall Aaron and his sons eat: unleavened shall it be eaten in a holy place; in the court of the tent of meeting shall they eat it.
17 It shall not be baken with leaven. As their portion have I given it [unto them] of my offerings by fire: it is most holy; as the sin-offering, and as the trespass-offering.
18 All the males among the children of Aaron shall eat of it. [It is] an everlasting statute in your generations, [their portion] of Jehovah's offerings by fire: whatever toucheth these shall be holy.
19 And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
20 This is the offering of Aaron and of his sons, which they shall present to Jehovah on the day when he is anointed: the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour as a continual oblation, half of it in the morning, and half thereof at night.
21 It shall be prepared in the pan with oil: saturated with oil shalt thou bring it: baken pieces of the oblation shalt thou present [for] a sweet odour to Jehovah.
22 And the priest who is anointed of his sons in his stead shall prepare it: [it is] an everlasting statute; it shall be wholly burned to Jehovah.
23 And every oblation of the priest shall be wholly burned; it shall not be eaten.
24 And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
25 Speak unto Aaron and to his sons, saying, This is the law of the sin-offering. At the place where the burnt-offering is slaughtered shall the sin-offering be slaughtered before Jehovah: it is most holy.
26 The priest that offereth it for sin shall eat it: in a holy place shall it be eaten, in the court of the tent of meeting.
27 Everything that toucheth the flesh thereof shall be holy; and if there be splashed of the blood thereof on a garment — that whereon it is sprinkled shalt thou wash in a holy place.
28 And the earthen vessel wherein it hath been sodden shall be broken; and if it have been sodden in a copper pot, it shall be both scoured and rinsed with water.
29 All the males among the priests shall eat thereof: it is most holy.
30 And no sin-offering whereof blood hath been brought to the tent of meeting, to make atonement in the sanctuary, shall be eaten: it shall be burned with fire.

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 Charge Aaron and his sons, saying, This [is] the law of whole-burnt-offering; this is the whole-burnt-offering in its burning on the altar all the night till the morning; and the fire of the altar shall burn on it, it shall not be put out.
3 And the priest shall put on the linen tunic, and he shall put the linen drawers on his body; and shall take away that which has been thoroughly burnt, which the fire shall have consumed, even the whole-burnt-offering from the altar, and he shall put it near the altar.
4 And he shall put off his robe, and put on another robe, and he shall take forth the offering that has been burnt without the camp into a clean place.
5 And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it, and shall not be extinguished; and the priest shall burn on it wood every morning, and shall heap on it the whole-burnt-offering, and shall lay on it the fat of the peace-offering.
6 And the fire shall always burn on the altar; it shall not be extinguished.
7 This is the law of the sacrifice, which the sons of Aaron shall bring near before the Lord, before the altar.
8 And he shall take from it a handful of the fine flour of the sacrifice with its oil, and with all its frankincense, which are upon the sacrifice; and he shall offer up on the altar a burnt-offering as a sweet-smelling savour, a memorial of it to the Lord.
9 And Aaron and his sons shall eat that which is left of it: it shall be eaten without leaven in a holy place, they shall eat it in the court of the tabernacle of witness.
10 It shall not be baked with leaven. I have given it as a portion to them of the burnt-offerings of the Lord: it is most holy, as the offering for sin, and as the offering for trespass.
11 Every male of the priests shall eat it: it is a perpetual ordinance throughout your generations of the burnt-offerings of the Lord; whosoever shall touch them shall be hallowed.
12 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
13 This is the gift of Aaron and of his sons, which they shall offer to the Lord in the day in which thou shalt anoint him; the tenth of an ephah of fine flour for a sacrifice continually, the half of it in the morning, and the half of it in the evening.
14 It shall be made with oil in a frying-pan; he shall offer it kneaded [and] in rolls, an offering of fragments, an offering of a sweet savour unto the Lord.
15 The anointed priest who is in his place, [one] of his sons, shall offer it: it is a perpetual statute, it shall all be consumed.
16 And every sacrifice of a priest shall be thoroughly burnt, and shall not be eaten.
17 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
18 Speak to Aaron and to his sons, saying, This is the law of the sin-offering;—in the place where they slay the whole-burnt-offering, they shall slay the sin-offerings before the Lord: they are most holy.
19 The priest that offers it shall eat it: in a holy place it shall be eaten, in the court of the tabernacle of witness.
20 Every one that touches the flesh of it shall be holy, and on whosesoever garment any of its blood shall have been sprinkled, whosoever shall have it sprinkled, shall be washed in the holy place.
21 And the earthen vessel, in whichsoever it shall have been sodden, shall be broken; and if it shall have been sodden in a brazen vessel, he shall scour it and wash it with water.
22 Every male among the priests shall eat it: it is most holy to the Lord.
23 And no offerings for sin, of whose blood there shall be brought any into the tabernacle of witness to make atonement in the holy place, shall be eaten: they shall be burned with fire.

18 Mares tantum stirpis Aaron comedent illud.
21 quæ in sartagine oleo conspersa frigetur.

1 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
2 `When any person doth sin, and hath committed a trespass against Jehovah, and hath lied to his fellow concerning a deposit, or concerning fellowship, or concerning violent robbery, or hath oppressed his fellow;
3 or hath found a lost thing, and hath lied concerning it, and hath sworn to a falsehood, concerning one of all <FI>these<Fi> which man doth, sinning in them:
4 `Then it hath been, when he sinneth, and hath been guilty, that he hath returned the plunder which he hath taken violently away, or the thing which he hath got by oppression, or the deposit which hath been deposited with him, or the lost thing which he hath found;
5 or all that concerning which he sweareth falsely, he hath even repaid it in its principal, and its fifth he is adding to it; to him whose it <FI>is<Fi> he giveth it in the day of his guilt-offering.
6 `And his guilt-offering he bringeth in to Jehovah, a ram, a perfect one, out of the flock, at thy estimation, for a guilt-offering, unto the priest,

8 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
9 `Command Aaron and his sons, saying, This <FI>is<Fi> a law of the burnt-offering (it <FI>is<Fi> the burnt-offering, because of the burning on the altar all the night unto the morning, and the fire of the altar is burning on it,)
10 that the priest hath put on his long robe of fine linen, and his fine linen trousers he doth put on his flesh, and hath lifted up the ashes which the fire consumeth with the burnt-offering on the altar, and hath put them near the altar;
11 and he hath stripped off his garments, and hath put on other garments, and hath brought out the ashes unto the outside of the camp, unto a clean place.
12 `And the fire on the altar is burning on it, it is not quenched, and the priest hath burned on it wood morning by morning, and hath arranged on it the burnt-offering, and hath made perfume on it <FI>with<Fi> the fat of the peace-offerings;
13 fire is continually burning on the altar, it is not quenched.
14 `And this <FI>is<Fi> a law of the present: sons of Aaron have brought it near before Jehovah unto the front of the altar,
15 and <FI>one<Fi> hath lifted up of it with his hand from the flour of the present, and from its oil, and all the frankincense which <FI>is<Fi> on the present, and hath made perfume on the altar, sweet fragrance--its memorial to Jehovah.
16 `And the remnant of it do Aaron and his sons eat; <FI>with<Fi> unleavened things it is eaten, in the holy place, in the court of the tent of meeting they do eat it.
17 It is not baken <FI>with<Fi> any thing fermented, their portion I have given it, out of My fire-offerings; it <FI>is<Fi> most holy, like the sin-offering, and like the guilt-offering.
18 Every male among the sons of Aaron doth eat it--a statute age-during to your generations, out of the fire-offerings of Jehovah: all that cometh against them is holy.'
19 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
20 `This <FI>is<Fi> an offering of Aaron and of his sons, which they bring near to Jehovah in the day of his being anointed; a tenth of the ephah of flour <FI>for<Fi> a continual present, half of it in the morning, and half of it in the evening;
21 on a girdel with oil it is made--fried thou dost bring it in; baked pieces of the present thou dost bring near, a sweet fragrance to Jehovah.
22 `And the priest who is anointed in his stead, from among his sons, doth make it, --a statute age-during of Jehovah: it is completely perfumed;
23 and every present of a priest is a whole burnt-offering; it is not eaten.'
24 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
25 `Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, This <FI>is<Fi> a law of the sin-offering: in the place where the burnt-offering is slaughtered is the sin-offering slaughtered before Jehovah; it <FI>is<Fi> most holy.
26 `The priest who is making atonement with it doth eat it, in the holy place it is eaten, in the court of the tent of meeting;
27 all that cometh against its flesh is holy, and when <FI>any<Fi> of its blood is sprinkled on the garment, that on which it is sprinkled thou dost wash in the holy place;

29 `Every male among the priests doth eat it--it <FI>is<Fi> most holy;
30 and no sin-offering, <FI>any<Fi> of whose blood is brought in unto the tent of meeting to make atonement in the sanctuary is eaten; with fire it is burnt.

Explanations by Age Level

Explain Like I'm 5

A long, long time ago, there was nothing at all - no earth, no sky, no animals, no people. It was all dark and empty. But God was there! God is so powerful that He can make anything just by speaking. So God said "Let there be light!" and BOOM! There was light everywhere! God saw that the light was beautiful and good. He called the light "day" and the darkness "night." This was the very first day when God started making our wonderful world!

Explain Like I'm 10

Before anything existed - no planets, stars, or life - God decided to create the universe. The earth started out as a dark, empty place covered with water. But God's Spirit was there, ready to bring order and beauty to everything. When God spoke and said "Let there be light," light immediately appeared because God's words have incredible power. God looked at the light and was pleased with what He had made. He organized time by separating light (day) from darkness (night), creating the first 24-hour period. This shows us that God is organized and purposeful in everything He does.

Explain Like I'm 15

Genesis 1:1-5 establishes fundamental theological truths about God and creation. The Hebrew word "bara" (created) indicates creation from nothing (ex nihilo), demonstrating God's absolute sovereignty and power. The phrase "without form and void" (tohu wa-bohu) describes a state of chaos that God transforms into order. The Spirit of God "hovering" or "brooding" over the waters suggests active, caring involvement in creation. The creation of light before the sun (created on day 4) indicates that God Himself is the ultimate source of light and energy. The establishment of day and night creates the framework of time, showing that God operates within orderly patterns while transcending them. This passage refutes both atheistic materialism and pantheism, establishing that God is both transcendent (separate from creation) and immanent (actively involved in it).
