1 Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel, and say unto the mountains and to the hills, to the watercourses and to the valleys, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I have spoken in my jealousy and in my wrath, because ye have borne the shame of the nations:
2 therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I have sworn,
3 saying, Surely the nations that are round about you, they shall bear their shame.
4 But ye, O mountains of Israel, ye shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people Israel; for they are at hand to come.
5 For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn unto you, and ye shall be tilled and sown;
6 and I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, even all of it; and the cities shall be inhabited, and the waste places shall be builded;
7 and I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and be fruitful; and I will cause you to be inhabited after your former estate, and will do better
8 unto you than at your beginnings: and ye shall know that I am Jehovah.
9 Yea, I will cause men to walk upon you, even my people Israel; and they shall possess thee, and thou shalt be their inheritance, and thou shalt no more henceforth bereave them of children.
10 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because they say unto you, Thou
11 land art a devourer of men, and hast been a bereaver of thy nation;
12 therefore thou shalt devour men no more, neither bereave thy nation any more, saith the Lord Jehovah;
13 neither will I let thee hear any more the shame of the nations, neither shalt thou bear the reproach of the peoples any more, neither shalt thou cause thy nation to stumble any more, saith the Lord Jehovah.
14 Moreover the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
15 Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their way and by their doings: their way before me was as the uncleanness of a woman in her impurity.
16 Wherefore I poured out my wrath upon them for the blood which they had poured out upon the land, and because they had defiled it with their idols;
17 and I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed through the countries: according to their way and according to their doings I judged them.
18 And when they came unto the nations, whither they went, they profaned my holy name; in that men said of them, These are the people of Jehovah, and are gone forth out of his land.
19 But I had regard for my holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations, whither they went.
20 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I do not
21 this for your sake, O house of Israel, but for my holy name, which ye have profaned among the nations, whither ye went.
22 And I will sanctify my great name, which hath been profaned among the nations, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the nations shall know that I am Jehovah, saith the Lord Jehovah, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.
23 For I will take you from among the nations, and gather you out of all the countries, and will bring you into your own land.
24 And I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
25 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.
26 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep mine ordinances, and do them.
27 And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.
28 And I will save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the grain, and will multiply it, and lay no famine upon you.
29 And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye may receive no more the reproach of famine among the nations.
30 Then shall ye remember your evil ways, and your doings that were not good; and ye shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.
31 Nor for your sake do I
32 this, saith the Lord Jehovah, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your ways, O house of Israel.
33 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: In the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the waste places shall be builded.
34 And the land that was desolate shall be tilled, whereas it was a desolation in the sight of all that passed by.
35 And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are fortified and inhabited.
36 Then the nations that are left round about you shall know that I, Jehovah, have builded the ruined places, and planted that which was desolate: I, Jehovah, have spoken it, and I will do it.
37 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: For this, moreover, will I be inquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them: I will increase them with men like a flock.
38 As the flock for sacrifice, as the flock of Jerusalem in her appointed feasts, so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men; and they shall know that I am Jehovah.
39 The hand of Jehovah was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of Jehovah, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones.
40 And he caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry.
41 And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord Jehovah, thou knowest.
42 Again he said unto me, Prophesy over these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of Jehovah.
43 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah unto these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live.
44 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am Jehovah.
45 So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and, behold, an earthquake; and the bones came together, bone to its bone.
46 And I beheld, and, lo, there were sinews upon them, and flesh came up, and skin covered them above; but there was no breath in them.
47 Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.
48 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.
49 Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are clean cut off.

1 In the twenty-fifth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, on the tenth of the month, in the fourteenth year after that the city was smitten, on that same day the hand of Jehovah was upon me, and he brought me thither.
2 In the visions ofGod brought he me into the land of Israel, and set me upon a very high mountain; and upon it was as the building of a city, on the south.
3 And he brought me thither, and behold, there was a man whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a flax-cord in his hand, and a measuring-reed; and he stood in the gate.
4 And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thy heart upon all that I shall shew thee; for in order that it might be shewn unto thee art thou brought hither. Declare to the house of Israel all that thou seest.
5 And behold, there was a wall on the outside of the house round about, and in the man's hand a measuring-reed of six cubits, [each] of one cubit and a hand breadth. And he measured the breadth of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed.
6 And he came to the gate which looked toward the east, and went up its steps; and he measured the threshold of the gate, one reed broad; and the other threshold one reed broad.
7 And [each] chamber was one reed long and one reed broad; and between the chambers were five cubits; and the threshold of the gate, beside the porch of the gate within, was one reed.
8 And he measured the porch of the gate within, one reed.
9 And he measured the porch of the gate, eight cubits; and the posts thereof, two cubits; and the porch of the gate was inward.
10 And the chambers of the gate which was toward the east were three on this side and three on that side: they three were of one measure; and the posts on this side and on that side had one measure.
11 And he measured the breadth of the entry of the gate, ten cubits; [and] the length of the gate, thirteen cubits.
12 And there was a border before the chambers of one cubit, and a border of one cubit on the other side; and the chambers were six cubits on this side, and six cubits on that side.
13 And he measured the gate from the roof of [one] chamber to the roof [of the other], a breadth of five and twenty cubits, entry opposite entry.
14 And he made posts, sixty cubits, and by the post was the court of the gate round about.
15 And from the front of the gate of the entrance unto the front of the porch of the inner gate were fifty cubits.
16 And there were closed windows to the chambers, and to their posts within the gate round about, and likewise to the projections; and the windows round about were inward; and upon [each] post were palm-trees.
17 And he brought me into the outer court, and behold, there were cells, and a pavement made for the court round about: thirty cells were upon the pavement.
18 And the pavement was by the side of the gates, answering to the length of the gates, [namely] the lower pavement.
19 And he measured the breadth from the front of the lower gate unto the front of the inner court outside, a hundred cubits eastward and northward.
20 And the gate of the outer court, that looked toward the north, he measured its length and its breadth.
21 And its chambers were three on this side and three on that side; and its posts and its projections were according to the measure of the first gate: its length was fifty cubits, and breadth five and twenty cubits.
22 And its windows, and its projections, and its palm-trees were according to the measure of the gate that looked toward the east; and they went up to it by seven steps; and the projections thereof were before them.
23 And the gate of the inner court was opposite to the gate toward the north, and toward the east; and he measured from gate to gate a hundred cubits.
24 And he brought me toward the south: and behold, there was a gate toward the south; and he measured its posts and its projections according to these measures.
25 And there were windows to it and to its projections round about, like those windows: the length was fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits.
26 And there were seven steps to go up to it; and its projections were before them; and it had palm-trees, one on this side and one on that side, upon its posts.
27 And there was a gate to the inner court toward the south; and he measured from gate to gate toward the south, a hundred cubits.
28 And he brought me into the inner court by the south gate; and he measured the south gate according to these measures:
29 and its chambers, and its posts, and its projections, according to these measures; and there were windows to it and to its projections round about: the length was fifty cubits, and the breadth twenty-five cubits.
30 And there were projections round about, twenty-five cubits long, and five cubits broad.
31 And its projections were toward the outer court; and there were palm-trees upon its posts: and its ascent was [by] eight steps.
32 And he brought me into the inner court toward the east; and he measured the gate according to these measures:
33 and its chambers, and its posts, and its projections, according to these measures; and there were windows to it and to its projections round about: the length was fifty cubits, and the breadth twenty-five cubits.
34 And its projections were toward the outer court; and there were palm-trees upon its posts on this side and on that side: and its ascent was [by] eight steps.
35 And he brought me to the north gate, and he measured [it] according to these measures:
36 its chambers, its posts, and its projections; and there were windows to it round about: the length was fifty cubits, and the breadth twenty-five cubits.
37 And its posts were toward the outer court; and there were palm-trees upon its posts, on this side and on that side: and its ascent was [by] eight steps.
38 And there was a cell and its entry by the posts of the gates; there they rinsed the burnt-offering.
39 And in the porch of the gate were two tables on this side, and two tables on that side, to slay thereon the burnt-offering and the sin-offering and the trespass-offering.
40 And at the side without, at the ascent to the entry of the north gate, were two tables; and on the other side, which was at the porch of the gate, were two tables:
41 four tables on this side, and four tables on that side, by the side of the gate, — eight tables, whereon they slew [the sacrifice],
42 — and at the ascent, four tables of hewn stone, of a cubit and a half long, and a cubit and a half broad, and one cubit high; whereon also they laid the instruments with which they slew the burnt-offering and the sacrifice.
43 And the double hooks of a hand breadth were fastened round about within; and upon the tables [they put] the flesh of the offering.
44 And outside the inner gate were two cells in the inner court, one at the side of the north gate, and its front towards the south; the other was at the side of the south gate, the front towards the north.
45 And he said unto me, This cell whose front is towards the south is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the house.
46 And the cell whose front is toward the north is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the altar. These are the sons of Zadok, those who, from among the sons of Levi, approach unto Jehovah to minister unto him.
47 And he measured the court, the length a hundred cubits, and the breadth a hundred cubits, four square: and the altar was before the house.
48 And he brought me to the porch of the house; and he measured the post of the porch, five cubits on this side, and five cubits on that side; and the breadth of the gate, three cubits on this side, and three cubits on that side.
49 The length of the porch was twenty cubits, and the breadth eleven cubits, even by the steps whereby they went up to it; and there were pillars by the posts, one on this side, and one on that side.

1 And it came to pass in the twenty-fifth year of our captivity, in the first month, on the tenth [day] of the month, in the fourteenth year after the taking of the city, in that day the hand of the Lord was upon me, and brought me
2 in a vision of God into the land of Israel, and set me on a very high mountain, and upon it [there was] as it were the frame of a city before [me].
3 And he brought me in thither, and, behold, [there was] a man, and the appearance of him was as the appearance of shining brass, and in his hand was a builder's line, and a measuring reed; and he stood at the gate.
4 And the man said to me, Look with thine eyes at him whom thou hast seen, son of man, and hear with thine ears, and lay up in thine heart all things that I show thee; for thou hast come in hither that [I] might show thee, and thou shalt show all things that thou seest to the house of Israel.
5 And behold a wall round about the house without, and in the man's hand a reed, the measure [of it was] six cubits by the cubit, and a span: and he measured across the front wall; the breadth was equal to the reed, and the length of it equal to the reed.
6 And he entered by seven steps into the gate that looks eastward, and he measured across the porch of the gate equal to the reed.
7 And the chamber was equal in length to the reed, and equal in breadth to the reed; and the porch between the chambers six cubits; and the second chamber equal in breadth to the reed, and equal in length to the reed, and the porch five cubits.
8 And the third chamber equal in length to the reed, and equal in breadth to the reed.
9 And the porch of the gateway (near the porch of the gate) eight cubits; and the posts thereof two cubits; and the porch of the gate was inward:
10 and the chambers of the gate of the chamber in front [were] three on one side and three on the other, and [there was] one measure to the three: [there was] one measure to the porches on this side and on that.
11 And he measured the breadth of the door of the gateway, ten cubits; and the breadth of the gateway thirteen cubits.
12 And the space before the chambers was narrowed to a cubit in front of the chambers on this side and on that side: and the chamber was six cubits this way, and six cubits that way.
13 And he measured the gate from the wall of one chamber to the wall of the other chamber: the breadth was twenty-five cubits, the one gate over against the other gate.
14 And the open space of the porch of the gate without, was twenty cubits to the chambers round about the gate.
15 And the open space of the gate without to the open space of the porch of the gate within was fifty cubits.
16 And [there were] secret windows to the chambers, and to the porches within the gate of the court round about, and in the same manner windows to the porches round about within: and on the porch [there were] palm-trees on this side and on that side.
17 And he brought me into the inner court, and, behold, [there were] chambers, and peristyles round about the court; thirty chambers within the ranges of columns.
18 And the porticos were behind the gates; according to the length of the gates, was the lower peristyle.
19 And he measured the breadth of the court, from the open space of the outer gate inwards to the open space of the gate looking outwards: a hundred cubits [was the distance to the place] of the gate looking eastward: and he brought me to the north;
20 and behold a gate looking northwards [belonging to] the outer court, and he measured it, both the length of it and the breadth;
21 and the chambers, three on this side and three on that; and the posts, and the porches, and the palm-trees thereof: and they were according to the measures of the gate that looks eastward: the length thereof was fifty cubits, and the breadth thereof was twenty-five cubits.
22 And its windows, and its porches, and its palm-trees, were according to [the dimensions of] the gate looking eastward; and they went up to it by seven steps; and the porches were within.
23 And [there was] a gate to the inner court looking toward the north gate, after the manner of the gate looking toward the east; and he measured the court from gate to gate, a hundred cubits.
24 And he brought me to the south side, and behold a gate looking southwards: and he measured it, and its chambers, and its posts, and its porches, according to these dimensions.
25 And its windows and its porches round about were according to the windows of the porch: the length thereof was fifty cubits, and the breadth thereof was five and twenty cubits.
26 And it had seven steps, and porches within: and it [had] palm-trees on the posts, one on one side, and one on the other side.
27 And [there was] a gate opposite the gate of the inner court southward: and he measured the court from gate to gate, a hundred cubits in breadth southward.
28 And he brought me into the inner court of the south gate: and he measured the gate according to these measures;
29 and the chambers, and the posts, and the porches, according to these measures: and [there were] windows to it and to the porches round about: its length was fifty cubits, and [its] breadth twenty-five cubits,
31 from the porch to the outer court: and [there were] palm-trees to the post [thereof], and eight steps.
32 And he brought me in at the gate that looks eastward: and he measured it according to these measures:
33 and the chambers, and the posts, and the porches according to these measures: and [there were] windows to it, and porches round about: the length of it was fifty cubits, and the breadth of it twenty-five cubits.
34 And [there were] porches [opening] into the inner court, and palm-trees on the posts on this side and on that side: and it [had] eight steps.
35 And he brought me in at the northern gate, and measured [it] according to these measures;
36 and the chambers, and the posts, and the porches: and it [had] windows round about, and [it had] its porches: the length of it was fifty cubits, and the breadth twenty-five cubits.
37 And its porches were toward the inner court; and [there were] palm-trees to the posts on this side and on that side: and it [had] eight steps.
38 Its chambers and its door-ways, and its porches at the second gate [served as] a drain,
39 that they might slay in it the sin-offerings, and the trespass-offerings.
40 And behind the drain for the whole-burnt-offerings at the north [gate], two tables eastward behind the second gate; and [behind] the porch of the gate two tables eastward.
41 Four on one side and four on the other side behind the gate; upon them they kill the victims, in front of the eight tables of sacrifices.
42 And [there were] four tables of hewn stone for whole-burnt-offerings, the breadth [of them was] a cubit and a half, and the length [of them] two cubits [and] a half, and [their] height was a cubit: on them they shall place the instruments with which they slay there the whole-burnt-offerings and the victims.
43 And they shall have within a border of hewn stone round about of a span broad, and over the tables above screens for covering [them] from the wet and from the heat.
44 And he brought me into the inner court, and behold [there were] two chambers in the inner court, one behind the gate looking to the north, turning southward, and one behind the southern gate, but which looks to the north.
45 And he said to me, This chamber that looks to the south, is for the priests that keep the charge of the house.
46 And the chamber that looks to the north is for the priests that keep the charge of the altar: they are the sons of Sadduc, those of the tribe of Levi who draw near to the Lord to serve him.
47 And he measured the court, the length [whereof was] a hundred cubits, and the breadth a hundred cubits, on its four sides; and the altar in front of the house.
48 And he brought me into the porch of the house; and he measured the post of the porch, the breadth was five cubits on one side and five cubits on the other side; and the breadth of the door [was] fourteen cubits, and the side-pieces of the door of the porch [were] three cubits on one side, and three cubits on the other side.
49 And the length of the porch was twenty cubits, and the breadth twelve cubits; and they went up to it by ten steps; and [there were] pillars to the porch, one on this side and one on that side.

1 In vigesimo quinto anno transmigrationis nostræ, in exordio anni, decima mensis, quartodecimo anno postquam percussa est civitas: in ipsa hac die facta est super me manus Domini, et adduxit me illuc.
2 In visionibus Dei adduxit me in terram Israel, et dimisit me super montem excelsum nimis: super quem erat quasi ædificium civitatis vergentis ad Austrum.

1 In the twenty-fifth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after the city was struck, in the same day, the LORD’s hand was on me, and he brought me there.
2 In the visions of God he brought me into the land of Israel, and set me down on a very high mountain, on which was something like the frame of a city to the south.
3 He brought me there; and, behold, there was a man whose appearance was like the appearance of bronze, with a line of flax in his hand and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate.
4 The man said to me, “Son of man, see with your eyes, and hear with your ears, and set your heart on all that I will show you; for you have been brought here so that I may show them to you. Declare all that you see to the house of Israel.”
5 Behold, there was a wall on the outside of the house all around, and in the man’s hand a measuring reed six cubits long, of a cubit and a hand width each. So he measured the thickness of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed.
6 Then he came to the gate which looks toward the east, and went up its steps. He measured the threshold of the gate, one reed wide; and the other threshold, one reed wide.
7 Every lodge was one reed long and one reed wide. Between the lodges was five cubits. The threshold of the gate by the porch of the gate toward the house was one reed.
8 He measured also the porch of the gate toward the house, one reed.
9 Then he measured the porch of the gate, eight cubits; and its posts, two cubits; and the porch of the gate was toward the house.
10 The side rooms of the gate eastward were three on this side, and three on that side. The three of them were of one measure. The posts had one measure on this side and on that side.
11 He measured the width of the opening of the gate, ten cubits; and the length of the gate, thirteen cubits;
12 and a border before the lodges, one cubit on this side, and a border, one cubit on that side; and the side rooms, six cubits on this side, and six cubits on that side.
13 He measured the gate from the roof of the one side room to the roof of the other, a width of twenty-five cubits, door against door.
14 He also made posts, sixty cubits; and the court reached to the posts, around the gate.
15 From the forefront of the gate at the entrance to the forefront of the inner porch of the gate were fifty cubits.
16 There were closed windows to the side rooms, and to their posts within the gate all around, and likewise to the arches. Windows were around inward. Palm trees were on each post.
17 Then he brought me into the outer court. Behold, there were rooms and a pavement made for the court all around. Thirty rooms were on the pavement.
18 The pavement was by the side of the gates, corresponding to the length of the gates, even the lower pavement.
19 Then he measured the width from the forefront of the lower gate to the forefront of the inner court outside, one hundred cubits, both on the east and on the north.
20 He measured the length and width of the gate of the outer court which faces toward the north.
21 The lodges of it were three on this side and three on that side. Its posts and its arches were the same as the measure of the first gate: its length was fifty cubits, and the width twenty-five cubits.
22 Its windows, its arches, and its palm trees were the same as the measure of the gate which faces toward the east. They went up to it by seven steps. Its arches were before them.
23 There was a gate to the inner court facing the other gate, on the north and on the east. He measured one hundred cubits from gate to gate.
24 He led me toward the south; and behold, there was a gate toward the south. He measured its posts and its arches according to these measurements.
25 There were windows in it and in its arches all around, like the other windows: the length was fifty cubits, and the width twenty-five cubits.
26 There were seven steps to go up to it, and its arches were before them. It had palm trees, one on this side, and another on that side, on its posts.
27 There was a gate to the inner court toward the south. He measured one hundred cubits from gate to gate toward the south.
28 Then he brought me to the inner court by the south gate. He measured the south gate according to these measurements;
29 with its lodges, its posts, and its arches, according to these measurements. There were windows in it and in its arches all around. It was fifty cubits long, and twenty-five cubits wide.
30 There were arches all around, twenty-five cubits long and five cubits wide.
31 Its arches were toward the outer court. Palm trees were on its posts. The ascent to it had eight steps.
32 He brought me into the inner court toward the east. He measured the gate according to these measurements;
33 with its lodges, its posts, and its arches, according to these measurements. There were windows in it and in its arches all around. It was fifty cubits long, and twenty-five cubits wide.
34 Its arches were toward the outer court. Palm trees were on its posts on this side and on that side. The ascent to it had eight steps.
35 He brought me to the north gate, and he measured it according to these measurements—
36 its lodges, its posts, and its arches. There were windows in it all around. The length was fifty cubits and the width twenty-five cubits.
37 Its posts were toward the outer court. Palm trees were on its posts on this side and on that side. The ascent to it had eight steps.
38 A room with its door was by the posts at the gates. They washed the burnt offering there.
39 In the porch of the gate were two tables on this side and two tables on that side, on which to kill the burnt offering, the sin offering, and the trespass offering.
40 On the one side outside, as one goes up to the entry of the gate toward the north, were two tables; and on the other side, which belonged to the porch of the gate, were two tables.
41 Four tables were on this side, and four tables on that side, by the side of the gate: eight tables, on which they killed the sacrifices.
42 There were four cut stone tables for the burnt offering, a cubit and a half long, a cubit and a half wide, and one cubit high. They laid the instruments with which they killed the burnt offering and the sacrifice on them.
43 The hooks, a hand width long, were fastened within all around. The meat of the offering was on the tables.
44 Outside of the inner gate were rooms for the singers in the inner court, which was at the side of the north gate. They faced toward the south. One at the side of the east gate faced toward the north.
45 He said to me, “This room, which faces toward the south, is for the priests who perform the duty of the house.
46 The room which faces toward the north is for the priests who perform the duty of the altar. These are the sons of Zadok, who from among the sons of Levi come near to the LORD to minister to him.”
47 He measured the court, one hundred cubits long and one hundred cubits wide, square. The altar was before the house.
48 Then he brought me to the porch of the house, and measured each post of the porch, five cubits on this side, and five cubits on that side. The width of the gate was three cubits on this side and three cubits on that side.
49 The length of the porch was twenty cubits and the width eleven cubits, even by the steps by which they went up to it. There were pillars by the posts, one on this side, and another on that side.

1 In the twenty and fifth year of our removal, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth of the month, in the fourteenth year after that the city was smitten, in this self-same day hath a hand of Jehovah been upon me, and He bringeth me in thither;
2 in visions of God He hath brought me in unto the land of Israel, and causeth me to rest on a very high mountain, and upon it <FI>is<Fi> as the frame of a city on the south.
3 And He bringeth me in thither, and lo, a man, his appearance as the appearance of brass, and a thread of flax in his hand, and a measuring-reed, and he is standing at the gate,
4 and the man speaketh unto me: `Son of man, see with thine eyes, And with thine ears hear, And set thy heart to all that I am shewing thee, For, in order to shew <FI>it<Fi> thee, Thou hast been brought in hither, Declare all that thou art seeing to the house of Israel.'
5 And lo, a wall on the outside of the house all round about, and in the hand of the man a measuring-reed, six cubits by a cubit and a handbreadth, and he measureth the breadth of the building one reed, and the height one reed.
6 And he cometh in unto the gate whose front <FI>is<Fi> eastward, and he goeth up by its steps, and he measureth the threshold of the gate one reed broad, even the one threshold one reed broad,
7 and the little chamber one reed long and one reed broad, and between the little chambers five cubits, and the threshold of the gate, from the side of the porch of the gate from within, one reed.
8 And he measureth the porch of the gate from within one reed,
9 and he measureth the porch of the gate eight cubits, and its posts two cubits, and the porch of the gates from within,
10 and the little chambers of the gate eastward, three on this side, and three on that side; one measure <FI>is<Fi> to them three, and one measure <FI>is<Fi> to the posts, on this side and on that side.

12 and a border before the little chambers, one cubit, and one cubit <FI>is<Fi> the border on this side, and the little chamber <FI>is<Fi> six cubits on this side, and six cubits on that side.
13 And he measureth the gate from the roof of the <FI>one<Fi> little chamber to the roof of another; the breadth twenty and five cubits, opening over-against opening.
14 And he maketh the posts of sixty cubits, even unto the post of the court, the gate all round about;
15 and by the front of the gate of the entrance, by the front of the porch of the inner gate, fifty cubits;
16 and narrow windows <FI>are<Fi> unto the little chambers, and unto their posts at the inside of the gate all round about--and so to the arches--and windows all round about <FI>are<Fi> at the inside, and at the post <FI>are<Fi> palm-trees.
17 And he bringeth me in unto the outer court, and lo, chambers and a pavement made for the court all round about--thirty chambers on the pavement--
18 and the pavement unto the side of the gates over-against the length of the gates <FI>is<Fi> the lower pavement;
19 and he measureth the breadth from before the lower gate, to the front of the inner court, on the outside, a hundred cubits, eastward and northward.
20 As to the gate of the outer court whose front <FI>is<Fi> northward, he hath measured its length and its breadth;
21 and its little chambers, three on this side, and three on that side, and its posts and its arches have been according to the measure of the first gate, fifty cubits its length, and the breadth five and twenty by the cubit;
22 and its windows, and its arches, and its palm-trees <FI>are<Fi> according to the measure of the gate whose face <FI>is<Fi> eastward, and by seven steps they go up on it, and its arches <FI>are<Fi> before them.
23 And the gate of the inner court <FI>is<Fi> over-against the gate at the north and at the east; and he measureth from gate unto gate, a hundred cubits.
24 And he causeth me to go southward, and lo, a gate southward, and he hath measured its posts and its arches according to these measures;
25 and windows <FI>are<Fi> to it and to its arches all round about, like these windows, fifty cubits the length, and the breadth five and twenty cubits;
26 and seven steps <FI>are<Fi> its ascent, and its arches <FI>are<Fi> before them, and palm-trees <FI>are<Fi> to it, one on this side, and one on that side, at its posts;
27 and the gate of the inner court <FI>is<Fi> southward, and he measureth from gate unto gate southward, a hundred cubits.

34 and its arches <FI>are<Fi> toward the outer court, and palm-trees <FI>are<Fi> toward its posts, on this side and on that side, and eight steps <FI>are<Fi> its ascent.
35 And he bringeth me in unto the north gate, and hath measured according to these measures;
36 its little chambers, its posts, and its arches; and windows <FI>are<Fi> to it all round about: the length fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits;
37 and its posts <FI>are<Fi> to the outer court, and palm-trees <FI>are<Fi> unto its posts, on this side and on that side, and eight steps <FI>are<Fi> its ascent.
38 And the chamber and its opening <FI>is<Fi> by the posts of the gates, there they purge the burnt-offering.
39 And in the porch of the gate <FI>are<Fi> two tables on this side, and two tables on that side, to slaughter on them the burnt-offering, and the sin-offering, and the guilt-offering;
40 and at the side without, at the going up to the opening of the north gate, <FI>are<Fi> two tables; and at the other side that <FI>is<Fi> at the porch of the gate, <FI>are<Fi> two tables;

42 And the four tables for burnt-offering <FI>are<Fi> of hewn stone: the length one cubit and a half, and the breadth one cubit and a half, and the height one cubit: on them they place the instruments with which they slaughter the burnt-offering and the sacrifice.
43 And the boundaries <FI>are<Fi> one handbreadth, prepared within all round about: and on the tables <FI>is<Fi> the flesh of the offering.
44 And on the outside of the inner gate <FI>are<Fi> chambers of the singers, in the inner court, that <FI>are<Fi> at the side of the north gate, and their fronts <FI>are<Fi> southward, one at the side of the east gate <FI>hath<Fi> the front northward.
45 And he speaketh unto me: `This chamber, whose front <FI>is<Fi> southward, <FI>is<Fi> for priests keeping charge of the house;
46 and the chamber, whose front <FI>is<Fi> northward, <FI>is<Fi> for priests keeping charge of the altar: they <FI>are<Fi> sons of Zadok, who are drawing near of the sons of Levi unto Jehovah, to serve Him.'
47 And he measureth the court: the length a hundred cubits, and the breadth a hundred cubits, square, and the altar <FI>is<Fi> before the house.
48 And he bringeth me in unto the porch of the house, and he measureth the post of the porch, five cubits on this side, and five cubits on that side, and the breadth of the gate, three cubits on this side, and three cubits on that side;

Explain Like I'm 5

A long, long time ago, there was nothing at all - no earth, no sky, no animals, no people. It was all dark and empty. But God was there! God is so powerful that He can make anything just by speaking. So God said "Let there be light!" and BOOM! There was light everywhere! God saw that the light was beautiful and good. He called the light "day" and the darkness "night." This was the very first day when God started making our wonderful world!

Explain Like I'm 10

Before anything existed - no planets, stars, or life - God decided to create the universe. The earth started out as a dark, empty place covered with water. But God's Spirit was there, ready to bring order and beauty to everything. When God spoke and said "Let there be light," light immediately appeared because God's words have incredible power. God looked at the light and was pleased with what He had made. He organized time by separating light (day) from darkness (night), creating the first 24-hour period. This shows us that God is organized and purposeful in everything He does.

Genesis 1:1-5 establishes fundamental theological truths about God and creation. The Hebrew word "bara" (created) indicates creation from nothing (ex nihilo), demonstrating God's absolute sovereignty and power. The phrase "without form and void" (tohu wa-bohu) describes a state of chaos that God transforms into order. The Spirit of God "hovering" or "brooding" over the waters suggests active, caring involvement in creation. The creation of light before the sun (created on day 4) indicates that God Himself is the ultimate source of light and energy. The establishment of day and night creates the framework of time, showing that God operates within orderly patterns while transcending them. This passage refutes both atheistic materialism and pantheism, establishing that God is both transcendent (separate from creation) and immanent (actively involved in it).
