1
Behold, therefore, I have smitten my hand at thy dishonest gain which thou hast made, and at thy blood which hath been in the midst of thee.
2
Can thy heart endure, or can thy hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with thee? I, Jehovah, have spoken it, and will do it.
3
And I will scatter thee among the nations, and disperse thee through the countries; and I will consume thy filthiness out of thee.
4
And thou shalt be profaned in thyself, in the sight of the nations; and thou shalt know that I am Jehovah.
5
And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
6
Son of man, the house of Israel is become dross unto me: all of them are brass and tin and iron and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are the dross of silver.
7
Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because ye are all become dross, therefore, behold, I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.
8
As they gather silver and brass and iron and lead and tin into the midst of the furnace, to blow the fire upon it, to melt it; so will I gather you in mine anger and in my wrath, and I will lay you there, and melt you.
9
Yea, I will gather you, and blow upon you with the fire of my wrath, and ye shall be melted in the midst thereof.
10
As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace, so shall ye be melted in the midst thereof; and ye shall know that I, Jehovah, have poured out my wrath upon you.
11
And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
12
Son of man, say unto her, Thou art a land that is not cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of indignation.
13
There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey: they have devoured souls; they take treasure and precious things; they have made her widows many in the midst thereof.
14
Her priests have done violence to my law, and have profaned my holy things: they have made no distinction between the holy and the common, neither have they caused men to discern between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.
15
Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood,
16
and to destroy souls, that they may get dishonest gain.
17
And her prophets have daubed for them with untempered
18
mortar, seeing false visions, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah, when Jehovah hath not spoken.
19
The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery; yea, they have vexed the poor and needy, and have oppressed the sojourner wrongfully.
20
And I sought for a man among them, that should build up the wall, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found none.
21
Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I brought upon their heads, saith the Lord Jehovah.
22
The word of Jehovah came again unto me, saying,
23
Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother:
24
and they played the harlot in Egypt; they played the harlot in their youth; there were their breasts pressed, and there was handled the bosom of their virginity.
25
And the names of them were Oholah the elder, and Oholibah her sister: and they became mine, and they bare sons and daughters. And as for their names, Samaria is Oholah, and Jerusalem Oholibah.
26
And Oholah played the harlot when she was mine; and she doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians
27
her neighbors,

1
And in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth of the month, the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
2
Son of man, write thee the name of the day, of this selfsame day: on this selfsame day the king of Babylon draws near to Jerusalem.
3
And propose a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Set on the pot, set [it] on, and also pour water into it.
4
Gather the pieces thereof into it, every good piece, the thigh and the shoulder; fill [it] with the choice bones:
5
take the choice of the flock; and also [put] a pile of wood under it, for the bones; make it boil well, and let the bones of it seethe therein.
6
Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose rust is therein, and whose rust is not gone out of it! Bring it out piece by piece; let no lot fall upon it:
7
for her blood is in the midst of her; she set it upon the bare rock; she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust.
8
That it might cause fury to come up to execute vengeance, I have set her blood upon the bare rock, that it should not be covered.
9
Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe to the bloody city! I also will make the pile great.
10
Heap on the wood, kindle the fire, boil thoroughly the flesh, and spice it well, and let the bones be burned.
11
Then set it empty upon its coals, that it may be hot, and the brass of it may burn, and that its filthiness may be molten in it, [and] that its rust may be consumed.
12
She hath exhausted [her] labours, yet her great rust goeth not forth out of her: let her rust be in the fire.
13
In thy filthiness is lewdness, for I have purged thee, and thou art not pure. Thou shalt no more be purged from thy filthiness, till I have satisfied my fury upon thee.
14
I Jehovah have spoken [it]: it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, nor will I repent. According to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, saith the Lord Jehovah.
15
And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
16
Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke; yet thou shalt not mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.
17
Sigh in silence, make no mourning for the dead; bind thy turban upon thee, and put thy sandals upon thy feet, and cover not the beard, and eat not the bread of men.
18
— And I spoke unto the people in the morning; and at even my wife died. And I did in the morning as I was commanded.
19
And the people said unto me, Wilt thou not tell us what these things are to us, which thou doest?
20
And I said to them, The word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
21
Say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and your soul's longing; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left behind shall fall by the sword.
22
And ye shall do as I have done: ye shall not cover the beard, neither eat the bread of men;
23
and your turbans shall be upon your heads, and your sandals upon your feet: ye shall not mourn nor weep; but ye shall waste away in your iniquities and moan one toward another.
24
Thus Ezekiel shall be unto you a sign; according to all that he hath done shall ye do: when it cometh, then ye shall know that I [am] the Lord Jehovah.
25
And thou, son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that whereunto they lift up their soul, their sons and their daughters,
26
that in that day he that escapeth shall come unto thee, to cause [thine] ears to hear [it]?
27
In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him that is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb. So shalt thou be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I [am] Jehovah.

1
And the word of the Lord came to me, in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth [day] of the month, saying,
2
Son of man, write for thyself daily from this day, on which the king of Babylon set himself against Jerusalem, [even] from this day.
3
And speak a parable to the provoking house, and thou shalt say to them, Thus saith the Lord; Set on the caldron, and pour water into it:
4
and put the pieces into it, every prime piece, the leg and shoulder taken off from the bones,
5
[which are] taken from choice cattle, and burn the bones under them: her bones are boiled and cooked in the midst of her.
6
Therefore thus saith the Lord; O bloody city, the caldron in which there is scum, and the scum has not gone out of, she has brought it forth piece by piece, no lot has fallen upon it.
7
For her blood is in the midst of her; I have set it upon a smooth rock: I have not poured it out upon the earth, so that the earth should cover it;
8
that my wrath should come up for complete vengeance to be taken: I set her blood upon a smooth rock, so as not to cover it.
9
Therefore thus saith the Lord, I will also make the firebrand great,
10
and I will multiply the wood, and kindle the fire, that the flesh may be consumed, and the liquor boiled away;
11
and that [it] may stand upon the coals, that her brass may be thoroughly heated, and be melted in the midst of her filthiness, and her scum may be consumed,
12
and her abundant scum may not come forth of her.
13
Her scum shall become shameful, because thou didst defile thyself: and what if thou shalt be purged no more until I have accomplished my wrath?
14
I the Lord have spoken; and it shall come, and I will do [it]; I will not delay, neither will I have any mercy: I will judge thee, saith the Lord, according to thy ways, and according to thy devices: therefore will I judge thee according to thy bloodshed, and according to thy devices will I judge thee, thou unclean, notorious, and abundantly provoking one.
15
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
16
Son of man, behold I take from thee the desire of thine eyes by violence: thou shalt not lament, neither shalt thou weep.
17
Thou shalt groan for blood, and have mourning upon thy loins; thy hair shall not be braided upon thee, and thy sandals [shall be] on thy feet; thou shalt in no wise be comforted by their lips, and thou shalt not eat the bread of men.
18
And I spoke to the people in the morning, as he commanded me in the evening, and I did in the morning as it was commanded me.
19
And the people said to me, Wilt thou not tell us what these things are that thou doest?
20
Then I said to them, The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
21
Say to the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I [will] profane my sanctuary, the boast of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and for which your souls are concerned; and your sons and your daughters, whom ye have left, shall fall by the sword.
22
And ye shall do as I have done: ye shall not be comforted at their mouth, and ye shall not eat the bread of men.
23
And your hair [shall be] upon your head, and your shoes on your feet: neither shall ye at all lament or weep; but ye shall pine away in your iniquities, and shall comfort every one his brother.
24
And Jezekiel shall be for a sign to you: according to all that I have done shall ye do, when these things shall come; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
25
And thou, son of man, [shall it] not [be] in the day when I take their strength from them, the pride of their boasting, the desires of their eyes, and the pride of their soul, their sons and their daughters,
26
that in that day he that escapes shall come to thee, to tell [it] thee in thine ears?
27
In that day thy mouth shall be opened to him that escapes; thou shalt speak, and shalt be no longer dumb: and thou shalt be for a sign to them, and they shall know that I am the Lord.

1
21
Loquere domui Israel: Hæc dicit Dominus Deus: Ecce ego polluam sanctuarium meum, superbiam imperii vestri, et desiderabile oculorum vestrorum, et super quo pavet anima vestra: filii vestri, et filiæ vestræ, quas reliquistis, gladio cadent.
22

Again, in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, the LORD’s word came to me, saying,
2
“Son of man, write the name of the day, this same day. The king of Babylon drew close to Jerusalem this same day.
3
Utter a parable to the rebellious house, and tell them, ‘The Lord GOD says, “Put the cauldron on the fire. Put it on, and also pour water into it.
4
Gather its pieces into it, even every good piece: the thigh and the shoulder. Fill it with the choice bones.
5
Take the choice of the flock, and also a pile of wood for the bones under the cauldron. Make it boil well. Yes, let its bones be boiled within it.”
6
“‘Therefore the Lord GOD says: “Woe to the bloody city, to the cauldron whose rust is in it, and whose rust hasn’t gone out of it! Take out of it piece after piece without casting lots for it.
7
“‘“For the blood she shed is in the middle of her. She set it on the bare rock. She didn’t pour it on the ground, to cover it with dust.
8
That it may cause wrath to come up to take vengeance, I have set her blood on the bare rock, that it should not be covered.”
9
“‘Therefore the Lord GOD says: “Woe to the bloody city! I also will make the pile great.
10
Heap on the wood. Make the fire hot. Boil the meat well. Make the broth thick, and let the bones be burned.
11
Then set it empty on its coals, that it may be hot, and its bronze may burn, and that its filthiness may be molten in it, that its rust may be consumed.
12
She is weary with toil; yet her great rust, rust by fire, doesn’t leave her.
13
“‘“In your filthiness is lewdness. Because I have cleansed you and you weren’t cleansed, you won’t be cleansed from your filthiness any more, until I have caused my wrath toward you to rest.
14
“‘“I, the LORD, have spoken it. It will happen, and I will do it. I won’t go back. I won’t spare. I won’t repent. According to your ways and according to your doings, they will judge you,” says the Lord GOD.’”
15
Also the LORD’s word came to me, saying,
16
“Son of man, behold, I will take away from you the desire of your eyes with one stroke; yet you shall neither mourn nor weep, neither shall your tears run down.
17
Sigh, but not aloud. Make no mourning for the dead. Bind your headdress on you, and put your sandals on your feet. Don’t cover your lips, and don’t eat mourner’s bread.”
18
So I spoke to the people in the morning, and at evening my wife died. So I did in the morning as I was commanded.
19
The people asked me, “Won’t you tell us what these things mean to us, that you act like this?”
20
Then I said to them, “The LORD’s word came to me, saying,
21
‘Speak to the house of Israel, “The Lord GOD says: ‘Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pities; and your sons and your daughters whom you have left behind will fall by the sword.
22
You will do as I have done. You won’t cover your lips or eat mourner’s bread.
23
Your turbans will be on your heads, and your sandals on your feet. You won’t mourn or weep; but you will pine away in your iniquities, and moan one toward another.
24
Thus Ezekiel will be a sign to you; according to all that he has done, you will do. When this comes, then you will know that I am the Lord GOD.’”’”
25
“You, son of man, shouldn’t it be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that whereupon they set their heart—their sons and their daughters—
26
that in that day he who escapes will come to you, to cause you to hear it with your ears?
27
In that day your mouth will be opened to him who has escaped, and you will speak and be no more mute. So you will be a sign to them. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth of the month, saying,
2
`Son of man, write for thee the name of the day--this self-same day leaned hath the king of Babylon toward Jerusalem in this self-same day--
3
and use unto the rebellious house a simile, and thou hast said unto them: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: To set on the pot, to set <FI>it<Fi> on, and also to pour into it water,
4
To gather its pieces unto it, every good piece, Thigh and shoulder, the choice of the bones to fill in.
5
The choice of the flock to take, And also to pile of the bones under it, Boil it thoroughly, yea, cook its bones in its midst.
6
Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah: Woe <FI>to<Fi> the city of blood, A pot whose scum <FI>is<Fi> in it, And its scum hath not come out of it, By piece of it, by piece of it bring it out, Not fallen on it hath a lot.
7
For her blood in her midst hath been, On a clear place of a rock she hath set it, She hath not poured it on the earth, To cover it over with dust.
8
To cause fury to come up to take vengeance, I have put her blood on a clear place of a rock--not to be covered.
9
Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah: Woe <FI>to<Fi> the city of blood, yea, I--I make great the pile.
10
Make abundant the wood, Kindle the fire, consume the flesh, And make the compound, And let the bones be burnt.
11
And cause it to stand on its coals empty, So that its brass is hot and burning, Melted hath been in its midst its uncleanness, Consumed is its scum.
12
<FI> With<Fi> sorrows she hath wearied herself, And the abundance of her scum goeth not out of her, In the fire <FI>is<Fi> her scum.
13
In thine uncleanness <FI>is<Fi> wickedness, Because I have cleansed thee, And thou hast not been cleansed, From thine uncleanness thou art not cleansed again, Till I have caused My fury to rest on thee.
14
I, Jehovah, hath spoken, It hath come, and I have done <FI>it<Fi> , I do not free, nor do I spare, nor do I repent, According to thy ways, and according to thine acts, they have judged thee, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.'
15
And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,
16
`Son of man, lo, I am taking from thee the desire of thine eyes by a stroke, and thou dost not mourn, nor weep, nor let thy tear come.
17
Cease to groan, <FI>for<Fi> the dead thou dost make no mourning, thy bonnet bind on thee, and thy shoes thou dost put on thy feet, and thou dost not cover over the upper lip, and bread of men thou dost not eat.'
18
And I speak unto the people in the morning, and my wife dieth in the evening, and I do in the morning as I have been commanded.
19
And the people say unto me, `Dost thou not declare to us what these <FI>are<Fi> to us, that thou art doing?'
20
And I say unto them, `A word of Jehovah hath been unto me, saying:
21
Say to the house of Israel: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: Lo, I am polluting My sanctuary, The excellency of your strength, The desire of your eyes, and the pitied of your soul, And your sons and your daughters whom ye have left, by sword they do fall.
22
And ye have done as I have done, On the upper lip ye are not covered, And bread of men ye do not eat.
23
And your bonnets <FI>are<Fi> on your heads, And your shoes <FI>are<Fi> on your feet, Ye do not mourn nor do ye weep, And ye have wasted away for your iniquities, And ye have howled one unto another.
24
And Ezekiel hath been to you for a type, According to all that he hath done ye do; In its coming in--ye have known that I <FI>am<Fi> the Lord Jehovah.
25
And thou, son of man, Is it not in the day of My taking from them their strength, The joy of their beauty, the desire of their eyes, And the song of their soul, Their sons and their daughters?
26
In that day come doth the escaped one to thee. To cause the ears to hear.
27
In that day opened is thy mouth with the escaped, And thou speakest, and art not silent any more, And thou hast been to them for a type. And they have known that I <FI>am<Fi> Jehovah.'
