And Jehovah spake again unto Ahaz, saying,
3
Ask thee a sign of Jehovah thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.
4
But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt Jehovah.
5
And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David: Is it a small thing for you to weary men, that ye will weary my God also?
6
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Butter and honey shall he eat, when he knoweth to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

Jehovah will bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father’s house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah—even the king of Assyria.
10
And it shall come to pass in that day, that Jehovah will hiss for the fly that is in the uttermost part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.
11
And they shall come, and shall rest all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the clefts of the rocks, and upon all thorn-hedges, and upon all pastures.
12
In that day will the Lord shave with a razor that is hired in the parts beyond the River,
13
even with the king of Assyria, the head and the hair of the feet; and it shall also consume the beard.
14
And it shall come to pass in that day, that a man shall keep alive a young cow, and two sheep;
15
and it shall come to pass, that because of the abundance of milk which they shall give he shall eat butter: for butter and honey shall every one eat that is left in the midst of the land.
16
And it shall come to pass in that day, that every place, where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silverlings, shall be for briers and thorns.
17
With arrows and with bow shall one come thither, because all the land shall be briers and thorns.
18
And all the hills that were digged with the mattock, thou shalt not come thither for fear of briers and thorns; but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of sheep.

And Jehovah said unto me, Take thee a great tablet, and write upon it with the pen of a man, For Maher-shalal-hash-baz;

And Jehovah said to me, Take thee a great tablet, and write thereon with a man's style, concerning Maher-shalal-hash-baz.
2
And I took unto me to witness, sure witnesses, Urijah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.
3
And I came near to the prophetess, and she conceived and bore a son; and Jehovah said unto me, Call his name, Maher-shalal-hash-baz.
4
For before the lad knoweth to cry, My father! and, My mother! the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.
5
And Jehovah spoke again to me, saying,
6
Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah which flow softly, and rejoiceth in Rezin and in the son of Remaliah,
7
therefore behold, the Lord will bring up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, the king of Assyria and all his glory; and he shall mount up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:
8
and he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow it and go further, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel!
9
Rage, ye peoples, and be broken in pieces! And give ear, all ye distant parts of the earth: Gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces!
10
Settle a plan, and it shall come to nought; speak a word, and it shall not stand: forGod is with us.
11
For Jehovah spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and he instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,
12
Ye shall not say, Conspiracy, of everything of which this people saith, Conspiracy; and fear ye not their fear, and be not in dread.
13
Jehovah of hosts, him shall ye sanctify; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.
14
And he will be for a sanctuary; and for a stone of stumbling, and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
15
And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
16
Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.
17
And I will wait for Jehovah, who hideth his face from the house of Jacob; and I will look for him.
18
Behold, I and the children that Jehovah hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel, from Jehovah of hosts, who dwelleth in mount Zion.
19
And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto the necromancers and unto the soothsayers, who chirp and who mutter, [say,] Shall not a people seek unto theirGod? [Will they go] for the living unto the dead?
20
To the law and the testimony! If they speak not according to this word, for them there is no daybreak.
21
And they shall pass through it, hard pressed and hungry; and it shall come to pass when they are hungry, they will fret themselves, and curse their king and theirGod, and will gaze upward:
22
and they will look to the earth; and behold, trouble and darkness, gloom of anguish; and they shall be driven into thick darkness.

1
And the Lord said to me, Take to thyself a volume of a great new [book], and write in it with a man's pen concerning the making a rapid plunder of spoils; for it is near at hand.
2
And make me witnesses [of] faithful men, Urias, and Zacharias the son of Barachias.
3
And I went in to the prophetess; and she conceived, and bore a son. And the Lord said to me, Call his name, Spoil quickly, plunder speedily.
4
For before the child shall know [how] to call [his] father or [his] mother, [one] shall take the power of Damascus and the spoils of Samaria before the king of the Assyrians.
5
And the Lord spoke to me yet again, [saying],
6
Because this people chooses not the water of Siloam that goes softly, but wills to have Rassin, and the son of Romelias [to be] king over you;
7
therefore, behold, the Lord brings up upon you the water of the river, strong and abundant, [even] the king of the Assyrians, and his glory: and he shall come up over every valley of yours, and shall walk over every wall of yours:
8
and he shall take away from Juda [every] man who shall be able to lift up his head, [and every one] able to accomplish anything; and his camp shall fill the breadth of thy land, [O] God with us.
9
Know, ye Gentiles, and be conquered; hearken ye, even to the extremity of the earth: be conquered, after ye have strengthened yourselves; for even if ye should again strengthen yourselves, ye shall again be conquered.
10
And whatsoever counsel ye shall take, the Lord shall bring it to nought; and whatsoever word ye shall speak, it shall not stand among you: for God is with us.
11
Thus saith the Lord, With a strong hand they revolt from the course of the way of this people, saying,
12
Let them not say, [It is] hard, for whatsoever this people says, is hard: but fear not ye their fear, neither be dismayed.
13
Sanctify ye the Lord himself; and he shall be thy fear.
14
And if thou shalt trust in him, he shall be to thee for a sanctuary; and ye shall not come against [him] as against a stumbling-stone, neither as against the falling of a rock: but the houses of Jacob are in a snare, and the dwellers in Jerusalem in a pit.
15
Therefore many among them shall be weak, and fall, and be crushed; and they shall draw nigh, and men shall be taken securely.
16
Then shall those who seal themselves that they may not learn the law be made manifest.
17
And [one] shall say, I will wait for God, who has turned away his face from the house of Jacob, and I will trust in him.
18
Behold I and the children which God has given me: and they shall be [for] signs and wonders in the house of Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwells in mount Sion.
19
And if they should say to you, Seek those who have in them a divining spirit, and them that speak out of the earth, them that speak vain words, who speak out of their belly: shall not a nation diligently seek to their God? why do they seek to the dead concerning the living?
20
For he has given the law for a help, that they should not speak according to this word, concerning which there are no gifts to give for it.
21
And famine shall come sorely upon you, and it shall come to pass, [that] when ye shall be hungry, ye shall be grieved, and ye shall speak ill of the prince and your fathers' ordinances: and they shall look up to heaven above,
22
and they shall look on the earth below, and behold severe distress, and darkness, affliction, and anguish, and darkness so that [one cannot] see; and he that is in anguish shall not be distressed only for a time.
23
Drink this first. Act quickly, O land of Zabulon, land of Nephthalim, and the rest [inhabiting] the sea-coast, and [the land] beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles.

4
Quia antequam sciat puer vocare patrem suum et matrem suam, auferetur fortitudo Damasci, et spolia Samariæ coram rege Assyriorum.
5
Et adiecit Dominus loqui ad me adhuc, dicens:
6
11
Hæc enim ait Dominus ad me: Sicut in manu forti erudivit me, ne irem in via populi huius, dicens:
12
13
Dominum exercituum ipsum sanctificate: ipse pavor vester, et ipse terror vester.
14
16
Liga testimonium, signa legem in discipulis meis.
17
18
Ecce ego et pueri mei, quos dedit mihi Dominus in signum, et in portentum Israel a Domino exercituum, qui habitat in monte Sion.
19
Et cum dixerint ad vos: Quærite a pythonibus, et a divinis, qui strident in incantationibus suis: Numquid non populus a Deo suo requiret pro vivis a mortuis?
20

The LORD said to me, “Take a large tablet, and write on it with a man’s pen, ‘For Maher Shalal Hash Baz’;
2
and I will take for myself faithful witnesses to testify: Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.”
3
I went to the prophetess, and she conceived, and bore a son. Then the LORD said to me, “Call his name ‘Maher Shalal Hash Baz.’
4

The LORD spoke to me yet again, saying,
6
“Because this people has refused the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah’s son;
7
now therefore, behold, the Lord brings upon them the mighty flood waters of the River: the king of Assyria and all his glory. It will come up over all its channels, and go over all its banks.
8
It will sweep onward into Judah. It will overflow and pass through. It will reach even to the neck. The stretching out of its wings will fill the width of your land, O Immanuel.
9
Make an uproar, you peoples, and be broken in pieces! Listen, all you from far countries: dress for battle, and be shattered! Dress for battle, and be shattered!
10
Take counsel together, and it will be brought to nothing; speak the word, and it will not stand, for God is with us.”
11
For the LORD spoke this to me with a strong hand, and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,
12
“Don’t call a conspiracy all that this people call a conspiracy. Don’t fear their threats or be terrorized.
13
The LORD of Armies is who you must respect as holy. He is the one you must fear. He is the one you must dread.
14
He will be a sanctuary, but for both houses of Israel, he will be a stumbling stone and a rock that makes them fall. For the people of Jerusalem, he will be a trap and a snare.
15
Many will stumble over it, fall, be broken, be snared, and be captured.”
16
Wrap up the covenant. Seal the law among my disciples.
17
I will wait for the LORD, who hides his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.
18
Behold, I and the children whom the LORD has given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of Armies, who dwells in Mount Zion.
19
When they tell you, “Consult with those who have familiar spirits and with the wizards, who chirp and who mutter,” shouldn’t a people consult with their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?
20
Turn to the law and to the covenant! If they don’t speak according to this word, surely there is no morning for them.
21
They will pass through it, very distressed and hungry. It will happen that when they are hungry, they will worry, and curse their king and their God. They will turn their faces upward,
22
then look to the earth and see distress, darkness, and the gloom of anguish. They will be driven into thick darkness.
