4 Whom will he teach knowledge? and whom will he make to understand the message? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts?
5 For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, there a little.
6 Nay, but by
7 men of strange lips and with another tongue will he speak to this people;
8 to whom he said, This is the rest, give ye rest to him that is weary; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
9 Therefore shall the word of Jehovah be unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, there a little; that they may go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
10 Wherefore hear the word of Jehovah, ye scoffers, that rule this people that is in Jerusalem:
11 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us; for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
12 therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner-stone of sure foundation: he that believeth shall not be in haste.
13 And I will make justice the line, and righteousness the plummet; and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding-place.
14 And your covenant with death shall be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.
15 As often as it passeth through, it shall take you; for morning by morning shall it pass through, by day and by night: and it shall be nought but terror to understand the message.
16 For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it; and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it.
17 For Jehovah will rise up as in mount Perazim, he will be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon; that he may do his work, his strange work, and bring to pass his act, his strange act.
18 Now therefore be ye not scoffers, lest your bonds be made strong; for a decree of destruction have I heard from the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, upon the whole earth.
19 Give ye ear, and hear my voice; hearken, and hear my speech.

2 And a man shall be as a hiding-place from the wind, and a covert from the storm; as brooks of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land.

4 and the heart of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.
5 The vile man shall be no more called noble, nor the churl said to be bountiful:
6 for the vile man will speak villainy, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against Jehovah, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and to cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.
7 The instruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the meek with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right.
8 But the noble deviseth noble things; and to noble things doth he stand.
9 Rise up, ye women that are at ease, hear my voice; ye careless daughters, give ear unto my speech.
10 In a year and [some] days shall ye be troubled, ye careless women; for the vintage shall fail, the ingathering shall not come.
11 Tremble, ye women that are at ease; be troubled, ye careless ones; strip you, and make you bare, and gird [sackcloth] on your loins!
12 They shall smite on the breasts [in lamentation] for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vineyards.
13 Upon the land of my people shall come up thistles [and] briars, yea, upon all the houses of joy in the joyous city.
14 For the palace shall be deserted, the multitude of the city shall be forsaken; hill and watchtower shall be caves for ever, a joy of wild asses, a pasture of flocks;
15 until the Spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness become a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be counted for a forest.
16 And judgment shall inhabit the wilderness, and righteousness dwell in the fruitful field.
17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance for ever.
18 And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting-places.
19 And it shall hail, coming down on the forest; and the city shall be low in a low place.
20 Blessed are ye that sow beside all waters, that send forth the feet of the ox and the ass.

11 Be amazed, be pained, ye confident ones: strip you, bare yourselves, gird your loins;
12 and beat on your breasts, because of the pleasant field, and the fruit of the vine.
13 [As for] the land of my people, the thorn and grass shall come upon [it], and joy shall be removed from every house.
14 [As for] the rich city, the houses are deserted; they shall abandon the wealth of the city, [and] the pleasant houses: and the villages shall be caves for ever, the joy of wild asses, shepherds' pastures;

10 For days beyond a year you will be troubled, you careless women; for the vintage will fail. The harvest won’t come.
11 Tremble, you women who are at ease! Be troubled, you careless ones! Strip yourselves, make yourselves naked, and put sackcloth on your waist.
12 Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine.
13 Thorns and briers will come up on my people’s land; yes, on all the houses of joy in the joyous city.

18 My people will live in a peaceful habitation, in safe dwellings, and in quiet resting places,

A long, long time ago, there was nothing at all - no earth, no sky, no animals, no people. It was all dark and empty. But God was there! God is so powerful that He can make anything just by speaking. So God said "Let there be light!" and BOOM! There was light everywhere! God saw that the light was beautiful and good. He called the light "day" and the darkness "night." This was the very first day when God started making our wonderful world!

Explain Like I'm 10

Before anything existed - no planets, stars, or life - God decided to create the universe. The earth started out as a dark, empty place covered with water. But God's Spirit was there, ready to bring order and beauty to everything. When God spoke and said "Let there be light," light immediately appeared because God's words have incredible power. God looked at the light and was pleased with what He had made. He organized time by separating light (day) from darkness (night), creating the first 24-hour period. This shows us that God is organized and purposeful in everything He does.
