1
he said, The God of my father was my help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh.
2
And Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness where he was encamped, at the mount of God:
3
and he said unto Moses, I, thy father-in-law Jethro, am come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.
4
And Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and did obeisance, and kissed him: and they asked each other of their welfare; and they came into the tent.
5
And Moses told his father-in-law all that Jehovah had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and how Jehovah delivered them.
6
And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which Jehovah had done to Israel, in that he had delivered them out of the hand of the Egyptians.
7
And Jethro said, Blessed be Jehovah, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh; who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.
8
Now I know that Jehovah is greater than all gods; yea, in the thing wherein they dealt proudly against them.
9
And Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took a burnt-offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses’ father-in-law before God.
10
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood about Moses from the morning unto the evening.
11
And when Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand about thee from morning unto even?
12
And Moses said unto his father-in-law, Because the people come unto me to inquire of God:
13
when they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between a man and his neighbor, and I make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.
14
And Moses’ father-in-law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.
15
Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for the thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.
16
Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God be with thee: be thou for the people to God-ward, and bring thou the causes unto God:
17
and thou shalt teach them the statutes and the laws, and shalt show them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.
18
Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating unjust gain; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
19
and let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge themselves: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear
20
the burden with thee.
21
If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people also shall go to their place in peace.
22
So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father-in-law, and did all that he had said.
23
And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
24
And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.
25
And Moses let his father-in-law depart; and he went his way into his own land.
26
In the third month after the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.

4
Thou shalt not make thyself any graven image, or any form of what is in the heavens above, or what is in the earth beneath, or what is in the waters under the earth:
5
thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them; for I, Jehovah thyGod, am a jealousGod, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons to the third and to the fourth [generation] of them that hate me,
6
and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.
7
Thou shalt not idly utter the name of Jehovah thyGod; for Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that idly uttereth his name.
8
Remember the sabbath day to hallow it.

Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work;
10
but the seventh day is the sabbath of Jehovah thyGod: thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy bondman, nor thy handmaid, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.
11
For in six days Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore Jehovah blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Honour thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be prolonged in the land that Jehovah thyGod giveth thee.

Thou shalt not kill.

And all the people saw the thunderings, and the flames, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw [it], they trembled, and stood afar off,
19
and said to Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear; but let notGod speak with us, lest we die.
20
And Moses said to the people, Fear not; forGod is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before you, that ye sin not.
21
And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near to the obscurity whereGod was.
22
And Jehovah said to Moses, Thus shalt thou say to the children of Israel: Ye have seen that I have spoken with you from the heavens.
23
Ye shall not make beside megods of silver, and ye shall not make to yougods of gold.
24
An altar of earth shalt thou make unto me, and shalt sacrifice on it thy burnt-offerings, and thy peace-offerings, thy sheep and thine oxen: in all places where I shall make my name to be remembered, I will come unto thee, and bless thee.
25
And if thou make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone; for if thou lift up thy sharp tool upon it, thou hast profaned it.
26
Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.

Locutusque est Dominus cunctos sermones hos:
2
3
Non habebis deos alienos coram me.
4
6
et faciens misericordiam in millia his qui diligunt me, et custodiunt præcepta mea.
7
