1 They are thrust down, and shall not be able to rise.
2 A Psalm of David.
3 Fret not thyself because of evil-doers,
4 Neither be thou envious against them that work unrighteousness.
5 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,
6 And wither as the green herb.
7 Trust in Jehovah, and do good;
8 Dwell in the land, and feed on
9 his faithfulness.
10 Delight thyself also in Jehovah;
11 And he will give thee the desires of thy heart.
12 Commit thy way unto Jehovah;
13 Trust also in him, and he will bring it to pass.
14 And he will make thy righteousness to go forth as the light,
15 And thy justice as the noonday.
16 Rest in Jehovah, and wait patiently for him:
17 Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way,
18 Because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
19 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath:

1 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that sittest [between] the cherubim, shine forth.
2 Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up thy strength, and come to our deliverance.
3 OGod, restore us; and cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.
4 Jehovah,God of hosts, how long will thine anger smoke against the prayer of thy people?
5 Thou hast fed them with the bread of tears, and given them tears to drink in large measure:
6 Thou hast made us a strife unto our neighbours, and our enemies mock among themselves.
7 Restore us, OGod of hosts; and cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.
8 Thou broughtest a vine out of Egypt; thou didst cast out the nations, and plant it:
9 Thou preparedst space before it, and it took deep root, and filled the land;
10 The mountains were covered with its shadow, and the branches thereof were [like] cedars ofGod;
11 It sent out its boughs unto the sea, and its shoots unto the river.
12 Why hast thou broken down its fences, so that all who pass by the way do pluck it?
13 The boar out of the forest doth waste it, and the beast of the field doth feed off it.
14 OGod of hosts, return, we beseech thee; look down from the heavens, and behold, and visit this vine;
15 Even the stock which thy right hand hath planted, and the young plant thou madest strong for thyself.
16 It is burned with fire, it is cut down; they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.
17 Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou hast made strong for thyself.
18 So will we not go back from thee. Revive us, and we will call upon thy name.
19 Restore us, O Jehovah,God of hosts; cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.

1 For the end, a Psalm for Asaph, concerning the wine-presses.
2 Rejoice ye in God our helper; shout aloud to the God of Jacob.
3 Take a psalm, and produce the timbrel, the pleasant psaltery with the harp.
4 Blow the trumpet at the new moon, in the glorious day of your feast.
5 For [this] is an ordinance for Israel, and a statute of the God of Jacob.
6 He made it [to be] a testimony in Joseph, when he came forth out of the land of Egypt: he heard a language which he understood not.
7 He removed his back from burdens: his hands slaved in making the baskets.
8 Thou didst call upon me in trouble, and I delivered thee; I heard thee in the secret place of the storm: I proved thee at the water of Strife. Pause.
9 Hear, my people, and I will speak to thee, O Israel; and I will testify to thee: if thou wilt hearken to me;
10 there shall be no new god in thee; neither shalt thou worship a strange god.
11 For I am the Lord thy God, that brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.
12 But my people hearkened not to my voice; and Israel gave no heed to me.
13 So I let them go after the ways of their own hearts: they will go on in their own ways.
14 If my people had hearkened to me, if Israel had walked in my ways,
15 I should have put down their enemies very quickly, and should have laid my hand upon those that afflicted them.
16 The Lord's enemies [should have] lied to him: but their time shall be for ever.
17 And he fed them with the fat of wheat; and satisfied them with honey out of the rock.

1 In finem, Pro torcularibus, Psalmus ipsi Asaph.
2 Exultate Deo adiutori nostro: iubilate Deo Iacob.
3 Sumite psalmum, et date tympanum: psalterium iucundum cum cithara.
4 Buccinate in Neomenia tuba, in insigni die solemnitatis vestræ:
5 Quia præceptum in Israel est: et iudicium Deo Iacob.
6 Testimonium in Ioseph posuit illud, cum exiret de Terra Ægypti: linguam, quam non noverat, audivit.
7 Divertit ab oneribus dorsum eius: manus eius in cophino servierunt.
8 In tribulatione invocasti me, et liberavi te: exaudivi te in abscondito tempestatis: probavi te apud aquam contradictionis.

Explain Like I'm 5

A long, long time ago, there was nothing at all - no earth, no sky, no animals, no people. It was all dark and empty. But God was there! God is so powerful that He can make anything just by speaking. So God said "Let there be light!" and BOOM! There was light everywhere! God saw that the light was beautiful and good. He called the light "day" and the darkness "night." This was the very first day when God started making our wonderful world!

Explain Like I'm 10

Before anything existed - no planets, stars, or life - God decided to create the universe. The earth started out as a dark, empty place covered with water. But God's Spirit was there, ready to bring order and beauty to everything. When God spoke and said "Let there be light," light immediately appeared because God's words have incredible power. God looked at the light and was pleased with what He had made. He organized time by separating light (day) from darkness (night), creating the first 24-hour period. This shows us that God is organized and purposeful in everything He does.

Genesis 1:1-5 establishes fundamental theological truths about God and creation. The Hebrew word "bara" (created) indicates creation from nothing (ex nihilo), demonstrating God's absolute sovereignty and power. The phrase "without form and void" (tohu wa-bohu) describes a state of chaos that God transforms into order. The Spirit of God "hovering" or "brooding" over the waters suggests active, caring involvement in creation. The creation of light before the sun (created on day 4) indicates that God Himself is the ultimate source of light and energy. The establishment of day and night creates the framework of time, showing that God operates within orderly patterns while transcending them. This passage refutes both atheistic materialism and pantheism, establishing that God is both transcendent (separate from creation) and immanent (actively involved in it).
