1 And now shall my head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me;
2 And I will offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy;
3 I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto Jehovah.
4 Hear, O Jehovah, when I cry with my voice:
5 Have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
6 When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee,
7 Thy face, Jehovah, will I seek.
8 Hide not thy face from me;
9 Put not thy servant away in anger:
10 Thou hast been my help;
11 Cast me not off, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
12 When my father and my mother forsake me,

1 OGod, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased: restore us again.
2 Thou hast made the earth to tremble, thou hast rent it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.
3 Thou hast shewn thy people hard things; thou hast made us to drink the wine of bewilderment.
4 Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth, (Selah,)
5 That thy beloved ones may be delivered. Save with thy right hand, and answer me.
6 God hath spoken in his holiness: I will exult, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.
7 Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine, and Ephraim is the strength of my head; Judah is my law-giver;
8 Moab is my wash-pot; upon Edom will I cast my sandal; Philistia, shout aloud because of me.
9 Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me unto Edom?
10 [Wilt] not thou, OGod, who didst cast us off? and didst not go forth, OGod, with our armies?
11 Give us help from trouble; for vain is man's deliverance.
12 ThroughGod we shall do valiantly; and he it is that will tread down our adversaries.

1 For the end, among the Hymns of David.
2 O God, hearken to my petition; attend to my prayer.
3 From the ends of the earth have I cried to thee, when my heart was in trouble: thou liftedst me up on a rock, thou didst guide me:
4 because thou wert my hope, a tower of strength from the face of the enemy.
5 I will dwell in thy tabernacle for ever; I will shelter myself under the shadow of thy wings. Pause.
6 For thou, O God, hast heard my prayers; thou hast given an inheritance to them that fear thy name.
7 Thou shalt add days to the days of the king; [thou shalt lengthen] his years to all generations.
8 He shall endure for ever before God: which of them will seek out his mercy and truth?
9 So will I sing to thy name for ever and ever, that I may daily perform my vows.

1 In finem, In hymnis David.
2 Exaudi Deus deprecationem meam: intende orationi meæ.
3 A finibus terræ ad te clamavi: dum anxiaretur cor meum, in petra exaltasti me. Deduxisti me,
4 quia factus es spes mea: turris fortitudinis a facie inimici.
5 Inhabitabo in tabernaculo tuo in sæcula: protegar in velamento alarum tuarum.
6 Quoniam tu Deus meus exaudisti orationem meam: dedisti hereditatem timentibus nomen tuum.

1 For the Chief Musician. To the tune of “The Lily of the Covenant.” A teaching poem by David, when he fought with Aram Naharaim and with Aram Zobah, and Joab returned, and killed twelve thousand of Edom in the Valley of Salt. God, you have rejected us. You have broken us down. You have been angry. Restore us, again.
2 You have made the land tremble. You have torn it. Mend its fractures, for it quakes.
3 You have shown your people hard things. You have made us drink the wine that makes us stagger.
4 You have given a banner to those who fear you, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.
5 So that your beloved may be delivered, save with your right hand, and answer us.
6 God has spoken from his sanctuary: “I will triumph. I will divide Shechem, and measure out the valley of Succoth.
7 Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine. Ephraim also is the defense of my head. Judah is my scepter.
8 Moab is my wash basin. I will throw my sandal on Edom. I shout in triumph over Philistia.”
9 Who will bring me into the strong city? Who has led me to Edom?
10 Haven’t you, God, rejected us? You don’t go out with our armies, God.
11 Give us help against the adversary, for the help of man is vain.
12 Through God we will do valiantly, for it is he who will tread down our adversaries.

A long, long time ago, there was nothing at all - no earth, no sky, no animals, no people. It was all dark and empty. But God was there! God is so powerful that He can make anything just by speaking. So God said "Let there be light!" and BOOM! There was light everywhere! God saw that the light was beautiful and good. He called the light "day" and the darkness "night." This was the very first day when God started making our wonderful world!

Explain Like I'm 10

Before anything existed - no planets, stars, or life - God decided to create the universe. The earth started out as a dark, empty place covered with water. But God's Spirit was there, ready to bring order and beauty to everything. When God spoke and said "Let there be light," light immediately appeared because God's words have incredible power. God looked at the light and was pleased with what He had made. He organized time by separating light (day) from darkness (night), creating the first 24-hour period. This shows us that God is organized and purposeful in everything He does.

Genesis 1:1-5 establishes fundamental theological truths about God and creation. The Hebrew word "bara" (created) indicates creation from nothing (ex nihilo), demonstrating God's absolute sovereignty and power. The phrase "without form and void" (tohu wa-bohu) describes a state of chaos that God transforms into order. The Spirit of God "hovering" or "brooding" over the waters suggests active, caring involvement in creation. The creation of light before the sun (created on day 4) indicates that God Himself is the ultimate source of light and energy. The establishment of day and night creates the framework of time, showing that God operates within orderly patterns while transcending them. This passage refutes both atheistic materialism and pantheism, establishing that God is both transcendent (separate from creation) and immanent (actively involved in it).
