1 O my God, in thee have I trusted,
2 Let me not be put to shame;
3 Let not mine enemies triumph over me.
4 Yea, none that wait for thee shall be put to shame:
5 They shall be put to shame that deal treacherously without cause.
6 Show me thy ways, O Jehovah;

1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is noGod! They have corrupted themselves, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.
2 God looked down from the heavens upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seekGod.
3 Every one of them is gone back, they are together become corrupt: there is none that doeth good, not even one.
4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge, eating up my people [as] they eat bread? they call not uponGod.
5 There were they in great fear, where no fear was; forGod scattereth the bones of him that encampeth against thee. Thou hast put [them] to shame, forGod hath despised them.
6 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! WhenGod turneth again the captivity of his people, Jacob shall be glad, Israel shall rejoice.

1 For the end, among the Hymns of instruction by David,
2 when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, Lo, is not David hid with us?
3 Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy might.
4 O God, hear my prayer; hearken to the words of my mouth.
5 For strangers have risen up against me, and mighty men have sought my life: they have not set God before them. Pause.
6 For lo! God assists me; and the Lord is the helper of my soul.
7 He shall return evil to mine enemies; utterly destroy them in thy truth.
8 I will willingly sacrifice to thee: I will give thanks to thy name, O Lord; for [it is] good.
9 For thou hast delivered me out of all affliction, and mine eye has seen [my desire] upon mine enemies.

1 In finem, In carminibus intellectus David,
2 Cum venissent Ziphæi, et dixissent ad Saul: Nonne David absconditus est apud nos?
3 Deus in nomine tuo salvum me fac: et in virtute tua iudica me.
4 Deus exaudi orationem meam: auribus percipe verba oris mei.
9 Quoniam ex omni tribulatione eripuisti me: et super inimicos meos despexit oculus meus.

1 For the Chief Musician. To the tune of “Mahalath.” A contemplation by David. The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity. There is no one who does good.
2 God looks down from heaven on the children of men, to see if there are any who understood, who seek after God.
3 Every one of them has gone back. They have become filthy together. There is no one who does good, no, not one.
4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and don’t call on God?
5 There they were in great fear, where no fear was, for God has scattered the bones of him who encamps against you. You have put them to shame, because God has rejected them.
6 Oh that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When God brings back his people from captivity, then Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

A long, long time ago, there was nothing at all - no earth, no sky, no animals, no people. It was all dark and empty. But God was there! God is so powerful that He can make anything just by speaking. So God said "Let there be light!" and BOOM! There was light everywhere! God saw that the light was beautiful and good. He called the light "day" and the darkness "night." This was the very first day when God started making our wonderful world!

Explain Like I'm 10

Before anything existed - no planets, stars, or life - God decided to create the universe. The earth started out as a dark, empty place covered with water. But God's Spirit was there, ready to bring order and beauty to everything. When God spoke and said "Let there be light," light immediately appeared because God's words have incredible power. God looked at the light and was pleased with what He had made. He organized time by separating light (day) from darkness (night), creating the first 24-hour period. This shows us that God is organized and purposeful in everything He does.

Genesis 1:1-5 establishes fundamental theological truths about God and creation. The Hebrew word "bara" (created) indicates creation from nothing (ex nihilo), demonstrating God's absolute sovereignty and power. The phrase "without form and void" (tohu wa-bohu) describes a state of chaos that God transforms into order. The Spirit of God "hovering" or "brooding" over the waters suggests active, caring involvement in creation. The creation of light before the sun (created on day 4) indicates that God Himself is the ultimate source of light and energy. The establishment of day and night creates the framework of time, showing that God operates within orderly patterns while transcending them. This passage refutes both atheistic materialism and pantheism, establishing that God is both transcendent (separate from creation) and immanent (actively involved in it).
