1 Even he that cannot keep his soul alive.
2 A seed shall serve him;
3 It shall be told of the Lord unto the
4 next generation.
5 They shall come and shall declare his righteousness
6 Unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done it.
7 A Psalm of David.
8 Jehovah is my shepherd; I shall not want.
9 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;
10 He leadeth me beside still waters.
11 He restoreth my soul:
12 He guideth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
13 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
14 I will fear no evil; for thou art with me;
15 Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
16 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
17 Thou hast anointed my head with oil;
18 My cup runneth over.
19 Surely goodness and lovingkindness shall follow me all the days of my life;
20 And I shall dwell in the house of Jehovah for ever.
21 A Psalm of David.
22 The earth is Jehovah’s, and the fulness thereof;
23 The world, and they that dwell therein.

1 God, Elohim-Jehovah, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.
2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty,God hath shined forth.
3 OurGod will come, and will not keep silence: fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.
4 He will call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people:
5 Gather unto me mygodly ones, those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice!
6 And the heavens shall declare his righteousness; forGod executeth judgment himself. Selah.
7 Hear, my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify unto thee: I amGod, thyGod.
8 I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices, or thy burnt-offerings, continually before me;
9 I will take no bullock out of thy house, [nor] he-goats out of thy folds:
10 For every beast of the forest is mine, the cattle upon a thousand hills;
11 I know all the fowl of the mountains, and the roaming creatures of the field are mine:
12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee; for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
13 Should I eat the flesh of bulls, and drink the blood of goats?
14 Offer untoGod thanksgiving, and perform thy vows unto the Most High;
15 And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
16 But unto the wickedGod saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant into thy mouth,
17 Seeing thou hast hated correction and hast cast my words behind thee?
18 When thou sawest a thief, thou didst take pleasure in him, and thy portion was with adulterers;
19 Thou lettest thy mouth loose to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit;
20 Thou sittest [and] speakest against thy brother, thou revilest thine own mother's son:
21 These [things] hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether as thyself: [but] I will reprove thee, and set [them] in order before thine eyes.
22 Now consider this, ye that forgetGod, lest I tear in pieces, and there be no deliverer.
23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me; and to him that ordereth [his] way will I shew the salvation ofGod.

1 For the end, a Psalm of David,
2 when Nathan the prophet came to him, when he had gone in to Bersabee.
3 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy great mercy; and according to the multitude of thy compassions blot out my transgression.
4 Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
5 For I am conscious of mine iniquity; and my sin is continually before me.
6 Against thee only have I sinned, and done evil before thee: that thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
7 For, behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sins did my mother conceive me.
8 For, behold, thou lovest truth: thou hast manifested to me the secret and hidden things of thy wisdom.
9 Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be purified: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow.
10 Thou shalt cause me to hear gladness and joy: the afflicted bones shall rejoice.
11 Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
12 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit in my inward parts.
13 Cast me not away from thy presence; and remove not thy Holy Spirit from me.
14 Restore to me the joy of thy salvation: establish me with thy directing Spirit.
15 [Then] will I teach transgressors thy ways; and ungodly men shall turn to thee.
16 Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation: [and] my tongue shall joyfully declare thy righteousness.
17 O Lord, thou shalt open my lips; and my mouth shall declare thy praise.
18 For if thou desiredst sacrifice, I would have given [it]: thou wilt not take pleasure in whole-burnt-offerings.
19 Sacrifice to God is a broken spirit: a broken and humbled heart God will not despise.
20 Do good, O Lord, to Sion in thy good pleasure; and let the walls of Jerusalem be built.
21 Then shalt thou be pleased with a sacrifice of righteousness, offering, and whole-burnt-sacrifices: then shall they offer calves upon thine altar.

1 In finem, Psalmus David,
2 Cum venit ad eum Nathan Propheta, quando intravit ad Bethsabee.
3 Miserere mei Deus, secundum magnam misericordiam tuam. Et secundum multitudinem miserationum tuarum, dele iniquitatem meam.
4 Amplius lava me ab iniquitate mea: et a peccato meo munda me.
9 Asperges me hyssopo, et mundabor: lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor.
10 Auditui meo dabis gaudium et lætitiam: et exultabunt ossa humiliata.
11 Averte faciem tuam a peccatis meis: et omnes iniquitates meas dele.
12 Cor mundum crea in me Deus: et spiritum rectum innova in visceribus meis.
13 Ne proiicias me a facie tua: et spiritum sanctum tuum ne auferas a me.
14 Redde mihi lætitiam salutaris tui: et spiritu principali confirma me.

Explain Like I'm 5

A long, long time ago, there was nothing at all - no earth, no sky, no animals, no people. It was all dark and empty. But God was there! God is so powerful that He can make anything just by speaking. So God said "Let there be light!" and BOOM! There was light everywhere! God saw that the light was beautiful and good. He called the light "day" and the darkness "night." This was the very first day when God started making our wonderful world!

Explain Like I'm 10

Before anything existed - no planets, stars, or life - God decided to create the universe. The earth started out as a dark, empty place covered with water. But God's Spirit was there, ready to bring order and beauty to everything. When God spoke and said "Let there be light," light immediately appeared because God's words have incredible power. God looked at the light and was pleased with what He had made. He organized time by separating light (day) from darkness (night), creating the first 24-hour period. This shows us that God is organized and purposeful in everything He does.

Explain Like I'm 15

Genesis 1:1-5 establishes fundamental theological truths about God and creation. The Hebrew word "bara" (created) indicates creation from nothing (ex nihilo), demonstrating God's absolute sovereignty and power. The phrase "without form and void" (tohu wa-bohu) describes a state of chaos that God transforms into order. The Spirit of God "hovering" or "brooding" over the waters suggests active, caring involvement in creation. The creation of light before the sun (created on day 4) indicates that God Himself is the ultimate source of light and energy. The establishment of day and night creates the framework of time, showing that God operates within orderly patterns while transcending them. This passage refutes both atheistic materialism and pantheism, establishing that God is both transcendent (separate from creation) and immanent (actively involved in it).
