And Elisha said, Hear the word of Jehovah. Thus saith Jehovah: To-morrow about this time shall the measure of fine flour be at a shekel, and two measures of barley at a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.

And the captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man ofGod and said, Behold, if Jehovah should make windows in the heavens, would this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
3
And there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate, and they said one to another, Why do we abide here until we die?
4
If we say, Let us enter into the city, the famine is in the city, and we shall die there; and if we abide here, we shall die. And now come, let us fall away to the camp of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they put us to death, we shall but die.

And they rose up in the dusk to go to the camp of the Syrians; and they came to the extremity of the camp of the Syrians; and behold, there was no man there.

For the Lord had made the army of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, a noise of a great host; and they said one to another, Behold, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.

And they rose up and fled in the dusk, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

And those lepers came to the extremity of the camp; and they went into one tent, and ate and drank, and carried thence silver and gold, and garments, and went and hid it; and they came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence, and went and hid [it].

And they said one to another, We are not doing right; this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, the iniquity will find us out; and now come, let us go and tell the king's household.

And they came and called to the porters of the city, and told them saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and behold, there was no one there, no sound of man, but the horses tied, and the asses tied, and the tents as they were.

And the porters cried [it] and told [it] to the king's house within.
12
And the king rose up in the night and said to his servants, Let me tell you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry, and they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.
13
And one of his servants answered and said, Let some one take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city (behold, they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it: behold, they are even as all the multitude of the Israelites that have perished), and let us send and see.

And they took two chariots with their horses; and the king sent after the army of the Syrians, saying, Go and see.
15
And they went after them to the Jordan; and behold, all the way was full of garments and materials, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. And the messengers returned and told the king.
16
And the people went out and plundered the camp of the Syrians; and the measure of fine flour was at a shekel, and two measures of barley at a shekel, according to the word of Jehovah.
17
And the king had appointed the captain on whose hand he leaned to have the charge of the gate; and the people trampled upon him in the gate, and he died, according to what the man ofGod had said, — what he had said when the king came down to him.
18
And it came to pass as the man ofGod had spoken to the king saying, Two measures of barley shall be at a shekel, and the measure of fine flour at a shekel, to-morrow about this time in the gate of Samaria.

And the captain answered the man ofGod and said, Behold, if Jehovah should make windows in the heavens, would such a thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
20
And so it happened to him; and the people trampled upon him in the gate, and he died.

Surrexerunt ergo vesperi, ut venirent ad castra Syriæ. Cumque venissent ad principium castrorum Syriæ, nullum ibidem repererunt.

Siquidem Dominus sonitum audiri fecerat in castris Syriæ, curruum, et equorum, et exercitus plurimi: dixeruntque ad invicem: Ecce mercede conduxit adversum nos rex Israel reges Hethæorum, et Ægyptiorum, et venerunt super nos.

Surrexerunt ergo, et fugerunt in tenebris, et dereliquerunt tentoria sua, et equos et asinos in castris, fugeruntque animas tantum suas salvare cupientes.

Igitur cum venissent leprosi illi ad principium castrorum, ingressi sunt unum tabernaculum, et comederunt et biberunt: tuleruntque inde argentum, et aurum, et vestes, et abierunt, et absconderunt: et rursum reversi sunt ad aliud tabernaculum, et inde similiter auferentes absconderunt.

Dixeruntque ad invicem: Non recte facimus: hæc enim dies boni nuncii est. Si tacuerimus, et noluerimus nunciare usque mane, sceleris arguemur: venite, eamus, et nunciemus in aula regis.

Cumque venissent ad portam civitatis, narraverunt eis, dicentes: Ivimus ad castra Syriæ, et nullum ibidem reperimus hominem, nisi equos, et asinos alligatos, et fixa tentoria.

Ierunt ergo portarii, et nunciaverunt in palatio regis intrinsecus.

Qui surrexit nocte, et ait ad servos suos: Dico vobis quid fecerint nobis Syri: sciunt quia fame laboramus, et idcirco egressi sunt de castris, et latitant in agris, dicentes: Cum egressi fuerint de civitate, capiemus eos vivos, et tunc civitatem ingredi poterimus.

Respondit autem unus servorum eius: Tollamus quinque equos, qui remanserunt in urbe (quia ipsi tantum sunt in universa multitudine Israel, alii enim consumpti sunt) et mittentes, explorare poterimus.

Adduxerunt ergo duos equos, misitque rex in castra Syrorum, dicens: Ite, et videte.

Qui abierunt post eos usque ad Iordanem: ecce autem omnis via plena erat vestibus, et vasis, quæ proiecerant Syri cum turbarentur: reversique nuncii indicaverunt regi.

Et egressus populus diripuit castra Syriæ: factusque est modius similæ statere uno, et duo modii hordei statere uno, iuxta verbum Domini.

Porro rex ducem illum, in cuius manu incumbebat, constituit ad portam: quem conculcavit turba in introitu portæ, et mortuus est, iuxta quod locutus fuerat vir Dei, quando descenderat rex ad eum.

Factumque est secundum sermonem viri Dei, quem dixerat regi, quando ait: Duo modii hordei statere uno erunt, et modius similæ statere uno, hoc eodem tempore cras in porta Samariæ:

if we have said, We go in to the city, then the famine <FI>is<Fi> in the city, and we have died there; and if we have sat here, then we have died; and now, come and we fall unto the camp of Aram; if they keep us alive, we live, and if they put us to death--we have died.'

And they rise in the twilight, to go in unto the camp of Aram, and they come in unto the extremity of the camp of Aram, and lo, there is not a man there,

seeing Jehovah hath caused the camp of Aram to hear a noise of chariot and a noise of horse--a noise of great force, and they say one unto another, `Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of Egypt, to come against us.'

And they rise and flee in the twilight, and forsake their tents, and their horses, and their asses--the camp as it <FI>is<Fi> --and flee for their life.

And these lepers come in unto the extremity of the camp, and come in unto one tent, and eat, and drink, and lift up thence silver, and gold, and garments, and go and hide; and they turn back and go in unto another tent, and lift up thence, and go and hide.

And they say one unto another, `We are not doing right this day; a day of tidings it <FI>is<Fi> , and we are keeping silent; and--we have waited till the light of the morning, then hath punishment found us; and now, come and we go in and declare to the house of the king.'

And they come in, and call unto the gatekeeper of the city, and declare for themselves, saying, `We have come in unto the camp of Aram, and lo, there is not there a man, or sound of man, but the bound horse, and the bound ass, and tents as they <FI>are<Fi> .'

and he calleth the gatekeepers, and they declare to the house of the king within.

And the king riseth by night, and saith unto his servants, `Let me declare, I pray you, to you that which the Aramaeans have done to us; they have known that we are famished, and they are gone out from the camp to be hidden in the field, saying, When they come out from the city, then we catch them alive, and unto the city we enter.'
13
And one of his servants answereth and saith, `Then let them take, I pray thee, five of the horses that are left, that have been left in it--lo, they <FI>are<Fi> as all the multitude of Israel who have been left in it; lo, they are as all the multitude of Israel who have been consumed--and we send and see.'

yea, it cometh to pass, according to the speaking of the man of God unto the king, saying, `Two measures of barley at a shekel, and a measure of fine flour at a shekel are, at this time to-morrow, in the gate of Samaria;'

and the captain answereth the man of God, and saith, `And lo, Jehovah is making windows in the heavens--it is according to this word?' and he saith, `Lo, thou art seeing with thine eyes, and thereof thou dost not eat;'

and it cometh to him so, and the people tread him down in the gate, and he dieth.

A long, long time ago, there was nothing at all - no earth, no sky, no animals, no people. It was all dark and empty. But God was there! God is so powerful that He can make anything just by speaking. So God said "Let there be light!" and BOOM! There was light everywhere! God saw that the light was beautiful and good. He called the light "day" and the darkness "night." This was the very first day when God started making our wonderful world!
