And it came to pass when king Hezekiah heard [it], that he rent his garments, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of Jehovah.
2
And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz.
3
And they said to him, Thus says Hezekiah: This day is a day of trouble and of rebuke and of reviling; for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.
4
It may be Jehovah thyGod will hear all the words of Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to reproach the livingGod; and will rebuke the words which Jehovah thyGod has heard. Therefore lift up a prayer for the remnant that is left.

And the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
6
And Isaiah said to them, Thus shall ye say to your master: Thus saith Jehovah: Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
7
Behold, I will put a spirit into him, and he shall hear tidings, and shall return to his own land; and I will make him to fall by the sword in his own land.
8
And Rab-shakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah; for he had heard that he had departed from Lachish.
9
And he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, Behold, he has come forth to make war with thee. And he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,
10
Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah saying: Let not thyGod, upon whom thou reliest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
11
Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all countries, destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?
12
Have thegods of the nations which my fathers have destroyed delivered them: Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden that were in Thelassar?
13
Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?
14
And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up into the house of Jehovah, and spread it before Jehovah.
15
And Hezekiah prayed before Jehovah and said, Jehovah,God of Israel, who sittest [between] the cherubim, thou, the Same, thou alone art theGod of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made the heavens and the earth.
16
Incline thine ear, Jehovah, and hear; open, Jehovah, thine eyes, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, who hath sent him to reproach the livingGod.
17
Of a truth, Jehovah, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands,
18
and have cast theirgods into the fire; for they were nogods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone; therefore have they destroyed them.
19
And now, Jehovah ourGod, I beseech thee, save us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou, Jehovah, artGod, thou only.
20
And Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith Jehovah theGod of Israel: That which thou hast prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard.
21
This is the word that Jehovah has spoken against him: The virgin-daughter of Zion despiseth thee, laugheth thee to scorn; The daughter of Jerusalem shaketh her head at thee.
22
Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted the voice? Against the Holy one of Israel hast thou lifted up thine eyes on high.
23
By thy messengers thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots have I come up To the height of the mountain, to the recesses of Lebanon, And I will cut down its tall cedars, the choice of its cypresses; And I will enter into its furthest lodging-place, [into] the forest of its fruitful field.
24
I have digged, and have drunk strange waters, And with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the streams of Matsor.
25
Hast thou not heard long ago that I have done it? And that from ancient days I formed it? Now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest lay waste fortified cities [into] ruinous heaps.
26
And their inhabitants were powerless, They were dismayed and put to shame; They were [as] the growing grass, and [as] the green herb, [As] the grass on the housetops, and grain blighted before it be grown up.
27
But I know thine abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, And thy raging against me.
28
Because thy raging against me and thine arrogance is come up into mine ears, I will put my ring in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, And I will make thee go back by the way by which thou camest.
29
And this [shall be] the sign unto thee: They shall eat this year such as groweth of itself, And in the second year that which springeth of the same; But in the third year sow ye and reap, And plant vineyards and eat the fruit thereof.
30
And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah Shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward;
31
For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, And out of mount Zion they that escape: The zeal of Jehovah [of hosts] shall do this.
32
Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city, Nor shoot an arrow there, Nor come before it with shield, Nor cast a bank against it.
33
By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, And shall not come into this city, saith Jehovah.
34
And I will defend this city, to save it, For mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.
35
And it came to pass that night, that an angel of Jehovah went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand. And when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead bodies.
36
And Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and abode at Nineveh.
37
And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch hisgod, that Adrammelech and Sharezer [his sons] smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

Ecce, ego immittam ei spiritum, et audiet nuncium, et revertetur in terram suam, et deiiciam eum gladio in terra sua.

Reversus est ergo Rabsaces, et invenit regem Assyriorum expugnantem Lobnam: Audierat enim quod recessisset de Lachis.

Cumque audisset de Tharaca rege Æthiopiæ, dicentes: Ecce, egressus est ut pugnet adversum te: et iret contra eum, misit nuncios ad Ezechiam dicens:

Hæc dicite Ezechiæ regi Iuda: Non te seducat Deus tuus, in quo habes fiduciam: neque dicas: Non tradetur Ierusalem in manus regis Assyriorum.

Tu enim ipse audisti quæ fecerunt reges Assyriorum universis terris, quo modo vastaverunt eas: num ergo solus poteris liberari?

Numquid liberaverunt dii Gentium singulos, quos vastaverunt patres mei, Gozan videlicet, et Haran, et Reseph, et filios Eden, qui erant in Thelassar?

Ubi est rex Emath, et rex Arphad, et rex civitatis Sepharvaim, Ana, et Ava?

Itaque cum accepisset Ezechias litteras de manu nunciorum, et legisset eas, ascendit in domum Domini, et expandit eas coram Domino,
15
et oravit in conspectu eius, dicens: Domine Deus Israel, qui sedes super cherubim, tu es Deus solus regum omnium terræ: tu fecisti cælum et terram.
16
Inclina aurem tuam, et audi: aperi Domine oculos tuos, et vide: audi omnia verba Sennacherib, qui misit ut exprobraret nobis Deum viventem.

Vere Domine dissipaverunt reges Assyriorum Gentes, et terras omnium.

Et miserunt deos eorum in ignem: non enim erant dii, sed opera manuum hominum ex ligno et lapide, et perdiderunt eos.
19
Nunc igitur Domine Deus noster, salvos nos fac de manu eius, ut sciant omnia regna terræ, quia tu es Dominus Deus solus.
20
Misit autem Isaias filius Amos ad Ezechiam, dicens: Hæc dicit Dominus Deus Israel: Quæ deprecatus es me super Sennacherib rege Assyriorum, audivi.

Iste est sermo, quem locutus est Dominus de eo: Sprevit te, et subsannavit te virgo filia Sion: post tergum tuum caput movit, filia Ierusalem.

Cui exprobrasti, et quem blasphemasti? contra quem exaltasti vocem tuam, et elevasti in excelsum oculos tuos? contra sanctum Israel.

Per manum servorum tuorum exprobrasti Domino, et dixisti: In multitudine curruum meorum ascendi excelsa montium in summitate Libani, et succidi sublimes cedros eius, et electas abietes illius. Et ingressus sum usque ad terminos eius, et saltum carmeli eius
24
ego succidi. Et bibi aquas alienas, et siccavi vestigiis pedum meorum omnes aquas clausas.
25
Numquid non audisti quid ab initio fecerim? Ex diebus antiquis plasmavi illud, et nunc adduxi: eruntque in ruinam collium pugnantium civitates munitæ.

Et qui sedent in eis, humiles manu, contremuerunt et confusi sunt, facti sunt velut fœnum agri, et virens herba tectorum, quæ arefacta est antequam veniret ad maturitatem.

Habitaculum tuum, et egressum tuum, et introitum tuum, et viam tuam ego præscivi, et furorem tuum contra me.
28
Insanisti in me, et superbia tua ascendit in aures meas: ponam itaque circulum in naribus tuis, et camum in labiis tuis, et reducam te in viam, per quam venisti.

Tibi autem Ezechia hoc erit signum: Comede hoc anno quæ repereris: in secundo autem anno, quæ sponte nascuntur: porro in tertio anno seminate et metite: plantate vineas, et comedite fructum earum.

Et quodcumque reliquum fuerit de domo Iuda, mittet radicem deorsum, et faciet fructum sursum.

De Ierusalem quippe egredientur reliquiæ, et quod salvetur de monte Sion: zelus Domini exercituum faciet hoc.

Quam ob rem hæc dicit Dominus de rege Assyriorum: Non ingredietur urbem hanc, nec mittet in eam sagittam, nec occupabit eam clypeus, nec circumdabit eam munitio.

Per viam, qua venit, revertetur: et civitatem hanc non ingredietur, dicit Dominus.

Protegamque urbem hanc, et salvabo eam propter me, et propter David servum meum.

Factum est igitur in nocte illa, venit Angelus Domini, et percussit in castris Assyriorum centum octogintaquinque millia. Cumque diluculo surrexisset, vidit omnia corpora mortuorum: et recedens abiit,

et reversus est Sennacherib rex Assyriorum, et mansit in Ninive.

Cumque adoraret in templo Nesroch deum suum, Adramelech et Sarasar filii eius percusserunt eum gladio, fugeruntque in terram Armeniorum, et regnavit Asarhaddon filius eius pro eo.

And the servants of king Hezekiah come in unto Isaiah,

and Isaiah saith to them, `Thus do ye say unto your lord: Thus said Jehovah, Be not afraid because of the words that thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Asshur have reviled Me.
7
Lo, I am giving in him a spirit, and he hath heard a report, and hath turned back to his land, and I have caused him to fall by the sword in his land.'
8
And the chief of the butlers turneth back and findeth the king of Asshur fighting against Libnah, for he hath heard that he hath journeyed from Lachish.
9
And he heareth concerning Tirhakah king of Cush, saying, `Lo, he hath come out to fight with thee;' and he turneth and sendeth messengers unto Hezekiah, saying,
10
`Thus do ye speak unto Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God lift thee up in whom thou art trusting, saying, Jerusalem is not given into the hand of the king of Asshur.
11
Lo, thou hast heard that which the kings of Asshur have done to all the lands--to devote them; and thou art delivered!
12
did the gods of the nations deliver them whom my fathers destroyed--Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden, who <FI>are<Fi> in Thelassar?

Where <FI>is<Fi> the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah?'

And Hezekiah taketh the letters out of the hand of the messengers, and readeth them, and goeth up to the house of Jehovah, and Hezekiah spreadeth it before Jehovah.

And Hezekiah prayeth before Jehovah, and saith, `O Jehovah, God of Israel, inhabiting the cherubs, Thou <FI>art<Fi> God Himself--Thyself alone--to all the kingdoms of the earth: Thou hast made the heavens and the earth.

And Isaiah son of Amoz sendeth unto Hezekiah, saying, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed unto Me concerning Sennacherib king of Asshur I have heard:

this <FI>is<Fi> the word that Jehovah spake concerning him: `Trampled on thee--laughed at thee, Hath the virgin daughter of Zion Behind thee shaken the head--Hath the daughter of Jerusalem?
22
Whom hast thou reproached and reviled? And against whom lifted up a voice? Yea, thou dost lift up on high thine eyes--Against the Holy One of Israel!
23
By the hand of thy messengers Thou hast reproached the Lord, and sayest: In the multitude of my chariots I have come up to a high place of mountains--The sides of Lebanon, And I cut down the height of its cedars, The choice of its firs, And I enter the lodging of its extremity, The forest of its Carmel.

I have digged, and drunk strange waters, And I dry up with the sole of my steps All floods of a bulwark.

Hast thou not heard from afar, it I made, From days of old that I formed it? Now I have brought it in, And it becometh a desolation, Ruinous heaps <FI>are<Fi> fenced cities,

And their inhabitants <FI>are<Fi> feeble-handed, They were broken down, and are dried up, They have been the herb of the field, And the greenness of the tender grass, Grass of the roofs, And blasted corn--before it hath risen up!

And thy sitting down, and thy going out, And thy coming in, I have known, And thine anger towards Me;
28
Because of thine anger towards Me, And thy noise--it came up into Mine ears, I have put My hook in thy nose, And My bridle in thy lips, And have caused thee to turn back, In the way in which thou camest.

And this to thee <FI>is<Fi> the sign, Food of the year <FI>is<Fi> the spontaneous growth, And in the second year the self-produced, And in the third year sow ye, and reap, And plant vineyards, and eat their fruits.

And it hath continued--The escaped of the house of Judah That hath been left--to take root beneath, And hath made fruit upward.

For from Jerusalem goeth out a remnant, And an escape from mount Zion; The zeal of Jehovah <FI>of Hosts<Fi> doth this.

Therefore, thus said Jehovah, Concerning the king of Asshur: He doth not come in unto this city, Nor doth he shoot there an arrow, Nor doth he come before it with shield. Nor doth he pour out against it a mount.

In the way that he cometh in--In it he turneth back, And unto this city he doth not come in, The affirmation of Jehovah--

And I have covered over this city, To save it, for Mine own sake, And for the sake of David My servant.'

And it cometh to pass, in that night, that a messenger of Jehovah goeth out, and smiteth in the camp of Asshur a hundred eighty and five thousand, and they rise early in the morning, and lo, all of them <FI>are<Fi> dead corpses.
36
And Sennacherib king of Asshur journeyeth, and goeth, and turneth back, and dwelleth in Nineveh;
37
and it cometh to pass, he is bowing himself in the house of Nisroch his god, and Adramelech and Sharezar <FI>his sons<Fi> have smitten him with the sword, and they have escaped to the land of Ararat, and Esar-Haddon his son reigneth in his stead.

A long, long time ago, there was nothing at all - no earth, no sky, no animals, no people. It was all dark and empty. But God was there! God is so powerful that He can make anything just by speaking. So God said "Let there be light!" and BOOM! There was light everywhere! God saw that the light was beautiful and good. He called the light "day" and the darkness "night." This was the very first day when God started making our wonderful world!

Before anything existed - no planets, stars, or life - God decided to create the universe. The earth started out as a dark, empty place covered with water.
